Being involved in a sport like dance while balancing school and life has shaped me into a stronger, more resilient female, especially in a world where male dominance tends to still be the expectation. It hasn’t been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.
One of the most important things I’ve learned is how to multitask effectively. Between school assignments, dance rehearsals, competitions, and my own personal commitments, I had no choice but to get organized. I learned to prioritize, plan ahead, and manage my time with precision. Dance didn’t just take a lot of time but it also required mental and physical energy which I did not always have, this meant I had to be smart about when to rest, when to push, and when to focus on school. That ability to juggle multiple responsibilities has made me more adaptable and dependable, not just in the classroom, but in all aspects of life.
Being in a competitive, high pressure environment like dance also taught me how to perform under stress. Whether it was nailing choreography on stage or finishing a school project after a long practice, I learned how to stay composed even when everything felt overwhelming. I’ve gained confidence in my ability to show up and deliver, even when I’m tired, nervous, or unsure. That kind of mental toughness is something I carry with me into interviews, presentations, and real life challenges.
Dance has also made me mentally and physically strong. I’ve learned discipline through daily practice and hard work. I’ve gained confidence in my body not just by how it looks, but what it is able to do. In a world that often tries to define girls by their appearance, dance reminded me that my strength, focus, and effort are far more important.
Most importantly, dance has helped me find my voice. In a society that can sometimes make women feel like they need to shrink themselves, dance gave me space to take up room, be expressive, and even lead. I’ve learned how to speak up, stand up for myself, and support other girls in doing the same.
Being a female athlete and artist has shown me that I don’t need to fit into anyone’s mold. I can be focused, graceful, and powerful all at once but most importantly I can be myself and because of this, I am proud of the woman I am becoming.
