Hello, my name is Isabella, but I go by Izzy! I am a senior at Conroe High School, and I plan to study political science in the future to begin my pre-law journey.
I am currently president of the National English Honors Society, an officer of the National Honors Society, an officer of my school's mental health organization "Tigers Joined for Hope," an AP Ambassador, and (my personal affinity) captain of the speech and debate team.

There is an imperceptible power amidst written words. A sentence can be overlooked on a page, yet once placed into law, it can shape the course of a person’s life. One may not begin to notice it at first until you’re having to count every penny because you can barely afford to pay for your life-saving surgery. This isn't just a metaphor, as many families suffer civil injustices like this every year, including my own. The only way to combat these quiet, destructive words is to learn to fight political injustice with your own pen and bill. It is this exact notion that drew me into the legal career.
The biggest adversity I have faced has been within my own family. My mother has been ill for most of my life, the worst and most recurring being fibromyalgia and early-stage thyroid cancer. Watching someone you love live in constant pain while still showing strength changes you. Alongside this, the financial burden of medical expenses created instability that my family is still working to overcome. These circumstances forced me to confront responsibility early and understand that stability is never guaranteed.
Though for better or worse, these struggles forced me to face reality. Due to the financial burden, I inevitably decided to attend a local state school. Though I had better opportunities elsewhere, being present for my family and keeping the financial burden low mattered more in the grand scheme of things. While it is no walk in the park balancing your dreams and responsibilities, I feel it has only strengthened my resilience to do better.
In the future, I aspire to be a civil attorney who not only has success in the legal system but also challenges it when necessary, advocating for those whose voices might otherwise go unheard.
Through all hardships and doubts, I have remained committed to my goals, and I truly believe I have a purpose in this field. I have actively sought out opportunities to understand the law, including speaking with Mike Yawn, director of the LEAP program at SHSU, and shadowing both an appellate attorney and a litigator in Jefferson County court. Observing advocacy that could alter someone’s future solidified my determination to pursue this path.
I have approached my education with that same level of determination. The majority of my high school career has been dedicated todual-creditt and APclasses, makingg strides to prepare for the rigor that law school demands. Furthermore, through AP Capstone and varsity debate competitions, I taught myself how to construct full cases, defend them under pressure, and communicate these propositions in a way that grabs the listener’s attention; all three skills being arguably essential to the legal field.
Further education is essential to achieving these goals. Law school will provide the knowledge, training, and opportunities needed to transform my passion into meaningful advocacy. It is not simply the next step in myeducation butt the foundation that will allow me to create tangible change. Through continued education, I will be better equipped to challenge injustice and ensure that the power within written words is used to protect, rather than harm.
