When you think of a teacher you may think of an apple on desk, smiling face, and a cute classroom. Mrs. Ludwig was this in a sense. Wax candle on her desk making her room smell like fall, strained smile from the lupus she was battling, and a large science classroom with all the essentials, beakers, microscopes, and more. Mrs. Ludwig or just Ludwig if you would prefer, was my 11th grade AP Biology teacher. I am now a high school senior preparing to graduate and ready to take on the world, with thanks to her. Our biology class started with 32 people. We finished with 8. Not because Mrs. Ludwig was bad or her teaching style, but because the class was hard. Even though she taught a hard class Ludwig challenged us to improve daily. She gave us intense homework that actually helped, assignments daily, and allowed us to come in whenever we wanted if we had any questions. She taught with a lecture style agenda and a self paced homework style. This way we were held accountable. Her teaching lecture teaching style and rigorous homework taught me many important skills such as notetaking, pacing, and hard work. This has changed how I approach my life because I learned through this class and my teacher, that with hard work that our goals come true and we are able to achieve things we never could have before. Without Mrs. Ludwig's help I would not have excelled on the AP Biology exam helping me in college and also teaching me skills. Not only was Mrs. Ludwig a great teacher she also showed irreplicable kindness and grit. Ludwig was dealing with Lupus and many other immune problems. However, even with these challenges she showed up everyday for us. This showed me how much she cared and it provided a great example of grit. Even if you are struggling and dealing with challenges you can try your best and move forward. This also taught me that if you have someone to motivate you you can go far. Even on the days she had to leave the classroom for five minutes to take a break or call the district frustrated because her room had to be a certain temperature for her Lupus she still pushed through because she had 8 kids looking up to her and needing help. This shows her devotion and empathy. She also showed compassion and kindness after the test. She helped me prepare for college in a way that my school counselors did not. She taught me what colleges were looking for and how to better myself, noting that it would be a good idea to continue in my STEM education and connecting me with college admissions officers for other advice. I will forever take these lessons of kindness, compassion and instruction throughout my life to continue to grow as a person. Mrs. Ludwig has ingrained in me a sense of hard work, grit, kindness, and many other things. She has changed me and therefore changed how I look and will go forward with my life.

I am glad to have finished the test but sad that I will not be able to walk into my AP United States History class for very much longer. From an early age, my parents have always emphasized education, teaching me that education makes us more like our Savior Jesus Christ. Due to this and my love for learning, I strive to take challenging classes that will better help me prepare for my future. By enrolling in multiple advanced placement courses over the years, I have been able to develop skills of determination, hard work, and critical thinking. My goal is to use these and other skills I have learned to succeed and build a career in Sports Marketing that supports my future family. Doing this will allow me to combine my love for learning and determination with my love for athletics. I am seeking an education that prepares me for my most important goal. I want to be a mother. My mom has been there for me through everything I have gone through. Her empathy and love have inspired me. I want to have the same influence she has had on me as my own children. I strive to be able to become a person who is prepared to be a leader on a marketing team, share my love of sports, serve as a dedicated missionary, and build a Christ centered home. I would like to pursue a degree in Sports Marketing. Sports have always been a large part of my life; they are also a big part of my family and community. Sports have affected me through the ups and downs from my own experiences, along with the experiences of others, and providing me with a way to connect with the people around me. I started with a local recreational league and then tried out for a club team and since then I have been hooked. Volleyball has been hard, but it has also given me a second family, a rewarding experience, and a way to stay active. No matter what is happening in my life, I can leave that behind, have fun, and grow with my teammates. Through volleyball I have made many forever friends. Through trials, such as losing state twice, I have grown close to my teammates and now have a bond that is unbreakable. I would pick volleyball any day over any other sport because of the people. It is also an extremely rewarding sport. I have seen myself grow in ways I could have never imagined. Through volleyball I have grown leader through my roles as teammate, captain, and friend. Every year my team creates non-negotiables which motivate us to keep high standards individually and collectively. We give 100% for that day, we always leave things better than we found them, we are always honest, and more. These non-negotiables have also allowed me to apply high standards to other aspects of my life. I have learned to set goals, work hard, hold myself accountable, and be myself in other areas such as at school. I have been able to see myself grow through these non-negotiables; which has made me proud of my participation in volleyball and has encouraged me to continue holding myself to high standards throughout my entire life. One of the biggest blessings in my life is the people that are part of my life. My role in my young women's presidency and service activities has helped make me a better person. Working with leaders that genuinely love us has shown me that kindness goes a long way. Through our service opportunities like visiting the widows in our ward I have seen the impact the church makes on people's lives and recognized how much God has given me. These experiences have made me want to give back and grow closer to my Savior by Serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I plan to serve after a year of college. I want to give God two years of my life before then returning to finish my schooling. I am seeking an education that prepares me for my most important goal. I want to be a mother. My mom has been there for me through everything I have gone through. Her empathy and love have inspired me. At Bountiful High School, you can go to any school activity, and attendance, participation, and cheering are not present. I can remember in junior high everyone loved school events and showed up to support their friends. However, as a sophomore excited to go to the first school assembly I was shocked that only a few people were there. In a nutshell, our school lacks school spirit. As a sports player, I wanted to help but had no idea what to do. I have played volleyball competitively since 6th grade and had first hand experience on the benefit of showing up for your peers at sports games and other school events. During a tough game against our rivals the Woods Cross Wildcats a cheering crowd of supporters had motivated us to victory. One day, my volleyball coach proposed an idea, and I was ecstatic. Coach White proposed that we start our own Student Athlete Advisory Committee or SAAC. She had been on a similar committee when she played volleyball in college. I now go to monthly meetings where sports captains like myself, and other school clubs such as student body officers, meet to discuss how we can promote unity, school spirit, and a more supportive environment. We have promoted going to more events and set goals for all the sports teams to attend as many school events as possible. Personally I have made an effort to be more engaged and attend more events. Due to our efforts to promote games and cheering as a SAAC committee, we have had more support for our sports teams and school events. As a team captain, I have also helped promote school spirit by encouraging team members to attend school events and cheer. We have turned our wishes for a more supportive school into a competition between the students to have the most attendance at games. By doing this I have been able to encourage others to go support their peers while having a friendly competition. Through this initiative and my efforts, I hope to help foster a more exciting and supportive atmosphere at Bountiful. The experience of recognizing a problem as a player and student, addressing the problem, and moving towards a better student body has also improved me as a person. I have learned that when you identify a problem and really try to make a difference your small actions can change many people, even a whole school. This has also brought me closer to members of other sports teams and clubs that I would not have been around before. I want to continue a unified environment where sports and students cheer each other on now and in the future. For seven years I have been able to be a part of an amazing competitive volleyball team. My parents have supported me every step of the way. Through the highs and lows of playing volleyball I have learned resilience and leadership. I also learned to love the game. Through these experiences I have learned how there is a culture within teams but also with their fans and those who support them. I saw how athletes sparked awe in fans and how sports can connect small towns and This shifted my perspective on the game. I want to be able to support the culture that sports have. My goal is to help everyone experience love for the game and the thrill that comes along with it. One of the biggest blessings in my life is the people that are part of my life. In college I will be able to become a person who is prepared to be a leader on a marketing team, share my love of sports, serve as a dedicated missionary, and build a Christ centered home.

I never really listened to Taylor Swift. I know this may be shocking because I am applying for a scholarship with her name on it. Last year this all changed though. My friends who love Taylor Swift took me to see the eras tour. I was amazed by the different outfits, sets, lyrics, types of songs and more. Watching her perform The Man changed my perspective. She was not some shallow singer covering just love and breakups but real world problems. She talks about the difference if she was a man. If she was a man she would be taken seriously, not seen as bossy, and so much more. In a world where we try but the gender equality gap is still there it was refreshing and empowering to see. With Taylor Swifts high status she was using it to conquer real world problems. As a female this got me excited. She was bringing a powerful topic to the world through song (and not to mention amazing dance moves). I find this performance most moving because it addresses a real issue. It makes impacts on girls like me who want to make a change and stand up for their rights.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Walking into my church’s young women's group for the first time was intimidating. The room was filled with girls from 11 to 18. Throughout my life, in church, school, and various activities, I have always looked up to the older girls in my young women's group. I hoped that when I was their age, I would emulate them. These older girls had many of the traits that Jesus Christ possesses, which I look up to. These girls were kind, grateful, humble, loving, and so much more. However, once I turned 17, my perspective changed. Now I am the older girl. I questioned if I was a mature and influential person that the younger girls in my life could admire. I felt pressure to be all the things I looked up to. While trying to exemplify the traits I esteem, I have realized that there are many notable things about me that are admirable, such as my ability to lead, my thoughtfulness, my being a hard worker, and my love for learning. This realization made me reflect on who I am and what I can work on. I then began to try to grow in these different traits that I respected. Now every day I strive to be kinder, work harder in everything I do, show my gratitude, and always have integrity. Through this, I have been able to become a better person overall. I have now become influential to others, which motivates me to keep growing and set a good example for those who look up to me and are around me every day. This and my faith in Jesus motivate me to implement my faith into my schooling. I will integrate my faith in my education by attending Brigham Young University. I have always hated violence, even something so small as the WWE to something big like war always makes me feel sick. I also hated contention. The world today is filled with hate, anger, and contention and so it is very important for me to be at a school where this is minimized, and I am surrounded by love and the gospel. I love Jesus Christ and the Gospel and derive many of my values from this. I want to continue to grow as a person and hold onto my values. Brigham Young University allows me to learn in an environment that is not only spiritually strengthening but holds strong values that align with mine.
