Imagine growing up as the center of your family's medical world where every doctor's visit, every diagnosis, and every decision feels like it revolves around you. Being the 'medical child' shapes not just your life, but the lives of everyone around you, redefining what it means to grow up, persevere and thrive. One thing after another I always seemed to be in the hospital, at the doctors office, or in physical therapy. Throughout my childhood I broke 10 bones alongside being diagnosed with Ehlers-danlos, von willebrand's disorder, platelet dysfunction, anemia, and gilbert's syndrome. This journey allowed me to appreciate the healthcare field and realize how important it truly is to society. I have been in physical therapy a total of 6 times for new and chronic injuries. There has never been a time where I felt out of place or unheard. As a multi-sport varsity athlete who suffers from chronic back pain I am always injured and hurting. Physical therapy has been my "life savor" throughout these four years of school, allowing me to continue doing what I love with the least amount of pain possible. Physical therapy became something I looked forward to attending due to the love in the community, the relief I felt and the overall positivity from both patients and therapist. These experiences are the sole reason I have chosen to pursue a career in Pediatric Physical Therapy. After researching this healthcare profession I discovered how new the field itself really is. Everyday therapist are trying new activities and looking from a new perspective to help kids in every way possible. I have chosen this career for a few reasons; I absolutely adore children but knew I wanted to work in healthcare, I also love physical therapy due to my personal experiences, lastly I want to go into a field where there is room to improve, explore and discover. This career allows all of my future dreams to become a reality in the same place. I have never felt more passion, certainty, and desire in any aspect of life until this. If/when I become a pediatric Physical Therapist, I plan to learn from the best, research new ways to improve mobility and independence, and eventually start my own business allowing children from all over the world to receive the care they deserve. By improving a child's mobility and independence, their overall quality of life and self-esteem is also improved. I plan to advocate for accessible, affordable healthcare services for all children including those from underserved population. Until I am able to start my own business I will raise awareness about the importance of early intervention for developmental delays and disabilities. I plan to offer cutting-edge care that could have a broader reach and impact on society through new research and technology advances. Becoming a pediatric physical therapist is more than a career choice for me, it is a calling. With my passion for helping others, my dedication to understanding the human body, and my commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of my patients, I am confident that I will not only excel as a therapist but also inspire hope and healing in every person I have the privilege to serve.
