I am a first-generation, BIPOC, Haitian-American student. I can describe myself as a very honest, open, and attentive person. I’m passionate about achieving a career specialized in meeting one-on-one with clients through communication, listening, sympathy, patience, and an most importantly learning. I believe that the past challenges with my mental health can greatly contribute in my willingness to learn and understand more of the field in health sciences, particularly clinical psychology. I am confident in setting out my dedication, discipline and devotion to college, overall. Without it being said, part of my passion for this career goes out to the majority of young boys and girls living in households who feel misunderstood. I lived through long periods of my life being untreated and unheard. I lived through long periods of my parents in disbelief of depression and anxiety, to name a few. They’re not alone. I understand and also hear the people who get turned down by jobs due to the timeline of their mental health. I take every ounce of pride in saying that anybody’s state of mind does NOT define anybody’s character. I did not intend to share a generic life lesson, this is just a portion of the mindset I’m willing to carry and share with those in need; with the route of my desired career. I believe that mental health care knows no color, race or background. I believe that everyone’s needs are valid. And that’s what I intend to help someone with in today’s generation.
