One technology that inspires me profoundly is the development and widespread adoption of renewable energy systems, particularly solar power. Especially seeing that climate change, energy inequality, and environmental degradation are challenges in today’s world, solar energy provides an opportunity for hope. It not only addresses these global challenges but also holds the potential to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place.
During my time as a Sustainability Intern at Passion of Hope International, I witnessed firsthand how solar power can transform communities. We worked on eco-friendly development initiatives in marginalized areas where access to reliable energy was scarce. The introduction of solar-powered solutions in these regions provided a lifeline—powering schools, healthcare facilities, and homes in ways that were previously unimaginable.
My favorite thing about solar energy is its scalability and adaptability. From large-scale solar farms that can power entire cities to small portable solar kits that bring light to remote villages, the versatility of solar power is almost unparalleled. There is limitless solar energy to power all the energy needs of the world, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it can be better harnessed to provide clean renewable energy without the environmental costs associated with fossil fuels and other less-clean sources.
As I pursue my Master’s with a focus in energy and environmental management I am driven by the potential of technologies like solar power to engineer solutions for a more sustainable future. With the right leadership and innovation, I believe that solar energy can be a cornerstone in the global effort to combat climate change and promote social equity.
Norton Scholarship
In today's self-centered world, the concept of "my truth" has gained significant popularity. It reflects the idea that each individual has their own perspective and reality based on personal experiences and beliefs. While this subjective approach seems harmless and considerate of the feelings and opinions of others, it leads to confusion and conflict when it comes to absolute truth, because human beings rarely come to a consensus on fundamental issues.
In Romans 3:4, Paul says to let God be true and every man, including our own selves, a liar. The idea is to hold God’s truth over our perceptions when they do not align, no matter how real they seem. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 encourages us to "demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God," bringing every thought into obedience to God.
Questions about the essence of life and life after death can only be answered by looking to the One who created everything. At best, human beings are intelligent, but we are often clueless about the bigger picture. The concept of "my truth" is inherently subjective, changing over time as our circumstances and understanding evolve. While it reflects our individual journeys, it is limited by human imperfection and can often lead us away from the ultimate truth found in God.
Just as I would look to a potter, not the crafted clay, to understand the purpose of a vessel, I believe that it is not within man to establish truth. If someone planted a bomb and held the code to disable it, I would look to them for a solution, not to myself, my perceptions, or my experiences. From a biblical standpoint, there is a clear distinction between "our truth" and "God's truth."
Proverbs 14:12 warns that there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death. This is the danger of relying solely on our subjective truth, which may lead us down paths contrary to God's will and purpose for our lives. While our experiences and feelings are significant, they must align with the higher standard of God's truth.
The Bible is the written revelation of God's truth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and serves as the authoritative guide for believers. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 shows us that the truth of the Bible is not merely a collection of moral teachings or historical accounts but the living and active word of God that speaks to every aspect of our lives.
God's truth is the ultimate standard by which all other truths are measured. It is the foundation upon which we should build our lives, guiding our decisions, actions, and beliefs. As Christians, we should seek God’s opinion on every matter and align ourselves with it, even when it challenges our personal preferences or societal norms.
The truth of the Bible is not separate from God's truth but is a manifestation of it. It provides us with a concrete and accessible way to understand God's will and to know Him more intimately. It is absolute, unchanging, and universal. It transcends human understanding and is rooted in God's nature and character. Unlike our truth, which can be swayed by emotions and circumstances, God's truth remains constant regardless of time, place, or culture.
While "our truth" is an important aspect of our individual identity and experience, it must be viewed in light of God's truth and the truth of the Bible.
