Bio

I am a dedicated nurse in the home health/skilled nursing field with over 7 years of experience. My strongest quality would be that I strive to treat each patient as if they were my own family. I try to always go above and beyond my duties. I am very passionate about collaborating with all members of my team so each patient receives the best care. I am very honored to be starting completion of my RN/BSN starting this fall. Upon completion of my program, my goal is to transition into a manager or leadership role. My current employer is actually creating a position to hold for me just so I can have something waiting when I am done with school. I am a single mother to a beautiful 7 year old daughter. Any scholarships I am awarded or considered I’ll be forever grateful.

My Goals and Aspirations as They Relate to My Education, Career, and Future Plans Pursuing a career in nursing has always been my aspiration ever since I was a little girl. When I finally got the opportunity to enter the field, it only solidified my desire to help others and make a difference in people's lives. I am currently working as a home health nurse and absolutely love it. I have developed great relationships with all of my patients and their families, and I always go above and beyond to ensure that they receive the best possible care. I am a great communicator and work well with other members of the healthcare team. I am also a fast learner, which has helped me immensely in my current role. One of my goals is to transition into a manager or leader role within home health so that I can facilitate the best care for my patients and help other nurses in their careers as well. I am also working towards becoming a certified wound and ostomy nurse, which would allow me to provide even more specialized care to my patients. Ultimately, my goals and aspirations are driven by my desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and I believe that with the right support and guidance, I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. The scholarship would help me achieve my goals by providing financial assistance that would allow me to further my education and pursue certification as a wound and ostomy nurse. Additionally, the scholarship would give me the opportunity to attend conferences and seminars related to my field, which would help me stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in-home health care. Ultimately, the scholarship would help me reach my full potential as a home health nurse and leader, and I am incredibly grateful for the consideration. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon. For me, the most difficult hardship I endured was becoming a single mom unexpectedly. However, I don't like to look at it through that lens. Having my daughter was the moment I stopped living for just myself and wanted to make her life the best it could be. I am so close to the finish line of completing my BSN, but I am continuing to hit roadblocks financially. For the next two semesters, we are in great need of assistance to complete my program through Indiana State University. Please consider us for this scholarship.

The way I feel I embody the values and traits exemplified by Cindy is through my patient advocacy as a home health nurse. Something I feel is lacking in healthcare is the lack of advocates, and the knowledge to know when you can have a say in your care you receive. One example I had an elderly patient that had no one to bring him his mail, so he asked me at one my visits if I could go out and bring it him. From there on out I made sure to always grab his mail before I went into his home. He did not expect his from me, but I knew that it would help ease some of the daily stress he endures. My number one goal in home health is to treat every patient as if they were my grandparent, mother, father, or any other family member. I believe that Cindi Visser also learned great values and lessons as a home health nurse herself. I truly believe by receiving this scholarship I will reflect her values of empathy and professionalism. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing back from this committee.

Wikipedia defines "single mom/parent" as a person who lives with a child or children and who does not have a spouse or live in partner to assist in the upbringing or support of a child. As this definition is true of a large majority of parents, it does not include all of the factors and motivators that goes into being this single parent. My daughter Reagan is what motivates me to be the BEST version of myself I can possibly be. She sees and hears everything I do and her success in life will be molded by my actions as she is growing up. I want nothing more than to be a shining example to her as she grows and develops into the greatest version of HERSELF. I want to be able to look at her and see little bits of myself in the things that she does-the way that she sees the world-and the way that when she looks in the mirror she will love the person looking back at her. It isn't easy being this single mom. There are no days off. No shutting the world out. No just going off on your own to do your own thing. I know I am ultimately responsible for not just myself but for this little girl looking up at me. Every move I make is stored in her little mind. Having said this-my ultimate goal is to get my BSN and move up in the nursing field and make my daughter so proud of her mom and the nurse I want to be. I am thankful for family members who have helped me when I needed to do schoolwork, study for a test or just needed a moment to decompress. I have never had a partner to rely on--my daughter's father left before she was born. It has always just been me and her on this journey called "life." I know I didn't go down the "proper" timeline in obtaining my degree but then again I've never been one to do things the "conventional" way. Does this makes things a little harder? Of course it does but that's ok. When life doesn't always go as you planned just take a step back-take a deep breath and swing that bat again. You never know when that one swing will just be a home run! BATTER UP!!

The way I feel I embody selflessness is through my patient advocacy as a home health nurse. Something I feel is lacking in healthcare is the lack of advocates, and the knowledge to know when you can have a say in your care you receive. One example I had was a young gentleman who had care givers who were obviously mis handling his money. I had to navigate this in a professional manner to violate any ethical matters. After a home health visit, I had him verbally tell me and write out a statement that he needed to send to the mail. I had him fold and place in envelope and place stamp. His ambulatory status was poor, so I walked it to his mailbox and notified him the task had been complete. He was so grateful, and it turned out the entire situation worked out in the end. Were those things in my job description...no. And no it wasn't a specific part of his nursing care plan. However, if no one is advocating and being there for him, who else is going to be. Yes, it added on approx 20-30 minutes to my day, but that is nothing compared to the help I gave. I believe I embody many of the characteristis that defines selflessness, because being there for others gives me the upmost satisfaction. It brings a energy into your life that can't be replicated in any other way.

My Aspiration to Becoming a Registered Nurse I am a single mother of a 7-year-old daughter. I have always worked full time, but I have made it a priority to make sure that I am still continuing my education. I balance my responsibilities by utilizing the help of my wonderful neighbors on weekends when I need to study. Reagan, my daughter, is my inspiration for going back to school to get my RN. We always talk together about how, one day, when I am done with school, we will have a bigger house with more land for more farm animals. I currently work in the field of skilled/ rehab nursing as a home health nurse. I am very fortunate as this gives me flexibility as a single mother. From the day she was born, I have always said I am no longer accountable just for myself. She is my inspiration for going back to school, and I hope I can pave the way for her future as well. I want to be the type of nurse that I would want my family and loved ones to receive. I am passionate about being supportive and educating patients in a way that they can understand. I believe that nurses can make a difference in the lives of their patients, and I am proud to be a part of that profession. At the same time, I know that being a nurse can be challenging, and I am up for the challenge. I am excited to see what the future holds for me as a nurse. Working in the healthcare profession as a nurse creates room to expand my knowledge and grow professionally while caring for patients. I would be grateful for the opportunity to become a nurse and make a difference in the lives of others. Working with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure each patient receives the best care possible is amazing. Even though it may take away time from Reagan, I know that I will be making her proud. I am looking forward to beginning my career as a nurse and making a difference in the lives of those I care for. The other interest that I would wish to explore is the field of nursing in critical care. This area of nursing allows me to work with patients who are critically ill and need close monitoring. I enjoy working in this type of environment because it is fast-paced and challenging. I am always learning new things and expanding my knowledge in this field. I hope to continue to grow as a nurse and make a difference in the lives of those I care for.

I enjoy working in this type of environment because it is fast-paced and challenging. My goal would to be able to educate and provide the most up to date treatments.
