Faith plays an important role in my life by guiding my values, decisions, and the way I approach challenges. It gives me a sense of purpose and helps me stay grounded, especially during stressful or uncertain times. Whether it is through reflection, staying positive, or trusting that hard work will pay off, my faith has helped shape the mindset I carry into both my personal life and my goals for the future.
In my academic life, faith has helped me stay disciplined and motivated. Balancing school, sports like basketball and soccer, and work has not always been easy. There have been times when I felt overwhelmed with responsibilities, deadlines, and expectations. During those moments, I have relied on my faith to stay focused and push through. Instead of giving up when things get difficult, I remind myself that challenges are opportunities to grow stronger and improve. This perspective has helped me maintain my performance in school while continuing to stay committed to my other responsibilities.
Faith has also influenced the way I view my future goals. I plan to attend the University of Maine Orono to study mechanical engineering and pursue a career in an industrial or manufacturing environment. I want to be part of improving systems, solving real-world problems, and contributing to more efficient and sustainable processes. My faith encourages me to use my abilities not only for personal success but also to make a positive impact on others. Whether that means improving safety in a workplace or helping a team operate more effectively, I want my work to reflect values like responsibility, integrity, and hard work.
In addition to faith, my family and upbringing have played a major role in pushing me toward higher education. Growing up around a mill environment, I have seen firsthand the dedication and effort it takes to succeed in industrial work. My family has always emphasized the importance of working hard, staying consistent, and taking pride in what you do. Seeing their example has motivated me to continue my education so I can build a career that allows me to grow, contribute, and provide for myself and others.
Overall, both my faith and the people around me have shaped the person I am becoming. They have taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of staying committed to my goals. As I move forward into college and my future career, I plan to carry these values with me and continue striving to make a meaningful impact in everything I do.

One of the most challenging experiences I have faced was balancing school, sports, and work while still trying to perform at a high level in each. As a student-athlete involved in basketball and soccer, while also working jobs like food delivery and maintenance, there were times when it felt like there simply were not enough hours in the day. Between practices, games, long work shifts, and keeping up with schoolwork, the pressure built quickly, and it became easy to feel overwhelmed.
At one point during the season, everything seemed to hit at once. I had multiple assignments due, games back-to-back, and work scheduled on top of it. I realized that if I didn’t take control of my time and approach, my performance in all areas would suffer. The first strategy I used was improving my time management. I started planning out my days more carefully, using small blocks of time more effectively, and prioritizing what needed to get done first. Even simple changes, like completing assignments right after school before practice, made a big difference.
Another important skill I developed was discipline. There were days when I was exhausted and didn’t feel like putting in the effort, but I knew that staying consistent was the only way to keep up. I learned to push through those moments and stay focused on my goals. This mindset helped me not only maintain my grades but also continue performing well in sports and at work.
I also had to learn how to manage stress and stay mentally focused. Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything at once, I broke challenges into smaller, manageable tasks. This made it easier to stay in control and keep moving forward. I also leaned on teammates, coaches, and coworkers when needed, which showed me the importance of support systems and communication.
In the end, I was able to succeed in all areas, maintaining strong academic performance while contributing to my teams and fulfilling my responsibilities at work. This experience taught me that hardship does not always come from one major event, but from the constant pressure of multiple responsibilities. By developing strong time management, discipline, and problem-solving skills, I was able to overcome that challenge.
This experience has shaped the person I am becoming—someone who can handle pressure, stay organized, and continue working toward goals even when things get difficult. These are skills I know will be essential in my future, especially in a demanding field like mechanical engineering.

Basketball has never just been a game to me—it’s been one of the main ways I’ve learned how to handle pressure, work with others, and push myself to be better every day. From early morning practices to high-stakes games, basketball has shaped not only how I perform on the court, but also the kind of person I am becoming off of it.
One of the biggest lessons basketball has taught me is discipline. There are days when you’re tired, sore, or just not feeling your best, but you still have to show up and give effort. That mindset has carried over into my schoolwork and other responsibilities. Whether it’s studying for a test or working on a project, I’ve learned that consistency matters more than motivation. Basketball has trained me to stay committed even when things aren’t easy.
Another important way basketball has shaped me is through teamwork. No matter how skilled one player is, basketball is a team sport, and success depends on how well everyone works together. Playing on teams that made it to big moments, like going to states, showed me the importance of communication, trust, and accountability. You have to understand your role, support your teammates, and be willing to put the team first. That’s something I know will help me in the future, especially in engineering, where collaboration is key.
Basketball has also taught me how to handle adversity. Not every game goes your way. You miss shots, make mistakes, and sometimes lose games you really wanted to win. Instead of letting that bring me down, I’ve learned how to bounce back, learn from those moments, and improve. That resilience has made me mentally tougher and more prepared to face challenges in life, whether it’s in school, work, or future goals.
Beyond the physical and mental lessons, basketball has helped shape my character. It has taught me leadership, especially by leading through effort and attitude. It has shown me the importance of staying humble in wins and respectful in losses. Most importantly, it has given me confidence—not just in my abilities as an athlete, but in myself as a person.
As I continue to grow, basketball will always be a part of who I am. It has helped build the foundation for the person I’m becoming: someone who is hardworking, team-oriented, and resilient. The lessons I’ve learned on the court are ones I’ll carry with me into my future, both in my career and in life.
