Being a mechanic is something I've always wanted. I decided my Sophomore year to enroll in the Flint Hills Auto Tech program and take basic college classes through Neosho County, from there my goal is to finish my senior year four classes short from getting my associate's degree. I am proud to say, I am on track to obtain that goal. My plan is to attend Pitt State and finish out my associates and then obtain my bachelor's degree in diesel mechanics. Once I am done with college I want to work on big machinery or be a diesel mechanic in the military. I plan on participating in ROTC while at Pitt State and committing to the National Guard. I would like to pursue a career in automotive because I like working on vehicles and have always been interested in the industry. Another reason would be that my late dad got me interested in it and I have been interested in it since. I also like that this industry has a lot of different fields to go into from commercial semi’s to agricultural equipment. One appeal to me is that you don’t do the same thing twice and you never know what the day is going to bring you. Another reason I would like working in the automotive industry is that it could benefit me personally with the knowledge that I will gain working as a diesel mechanic and I like how the industry changes and presents new learning opportunities.

I am applying for this scholarship because auto mechanics is something that I have always wanted to do and have always enjoyed doing. Another reason that I want to apply for this scholarship is because I want to start my journey to becoming a mechanic in the right direction. What got me interested in mechanics was my dad, he went to a Ford school a while back and since helping him work on things I have always wanted to be a mechanic. I also want to be in auto mechanics because I enjoy helping other people who don't have time or the skills to do it themselves. finding a problem and fixing it is a great feeling and it requires a lot of hard work. Another reason that I want to be in mechanics is that there is a lack of mechanics in the world and I like to learn about all of the new technology that goes into vehicles and how it works. Something else that I like about mechanics is that it is manual labor but also takes a lot of critical thinking and investigating. I like to challenge myself and mechanics is a really good way to do so. All in all the thing that I like the most about mechanics is the mental toughness that it requires to be a mechanic. I plan to make an impact in the future by helping other people on their way to becoming a mechanic by teaching them the things that I know when I am out of college. I plan to do this by teaching the new techs that come into the shop what to do and helping them on their way to being a good mechanic. I think that it is very important to have mechanics who know a lot about their field and how to use the necessary tools. I plan to finish out my associate's degree and go straight into working on my bachelor's degree. I am going to attend Pittsburgh State and get my bachelor's in diesel mechanics. By getting my degree in diesel mechanics I have a better understanding in the field and could pass that on to other people that didn't go to college. I think that if I get my degree in diesel mechanics I will be able to help a lot more people than just the customers that come through the shop.
