My name is Hudson Flummerfelt, and being a student-athlete has shaped me into the person I am today. Baseball has been a defining part of my life, teaching me discipline, resilience, and leadership. These lessons have not only helped me succeed on the field but have also influenced my future career goals. As I continue my education, I plan to use my experiences as an athlete to guide me toward a career in coaching, where I can mentor and inspire young athletes just as my coaches have done for me.
Baseball has given me a strong work ethic and the ability to handle pressure. From early morning workouts to late-night games, I have learned how to balance responsibilities and stay committed to my goals. The sport has also taught me how to handle adversity, whether it's bouncing back from a tough loss or pushing through a slump. These experiences have shown me the importance of perseverance—something I will carry into my future career as a college baseball coach. I want to use my knowledge and passion for the game to help young athletes develop not only their skills but also their character, teaching them the same valuable lessons that baseball has taught me.
Beyond the physical aspects of the sport, being a student-athlete has also helped me develop leadership skills. As a four-year varsity player, I have taken on the responsibility of being a role model for my teammates and younger players in the program. I have mentored youth hitters through instructional camps and served as an umpire for local baseball leagues, both of which have reinforced my desire to work with athletes in the future. Watching young players develop their skills and grow in confidence is something I find incredibly rewarding, and I know that coaching will allow me to continue making a positive impact on the next generation of athletes.
While baseball is a huge part of my life, I also have interests outside of sports that have helped shape me as a person. I have always been passionate about business and entrepreneurship, which I have explored through my involvement in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and a student-run business program at my high school. These experiences have taught me the importance of communication, problem-solving, and teamwork—skills that will be valuable no matter where my career takes me. I enjoy working with people, creating new ideas, and finding ways to bring them to life. Whether it’s through coaching or business, I know that my ability to lead and connect with others will play a major role in my future success.
Additionally, I have always valued giving back to my community. Through National Honor Society, Student Council, and FBLA, I have had the opportunity to organize and participate in service projects that make a difference in people’s lives. From coaching youth baseball players to volunteering for charity events, I have learned the importance of using my time and talents to help others. This sense of responsibility and leadership will continue to drive me as I pursue my goals.
Being a student-athlete has shaped my future by teaching me discipline, leadership, and the importance of hard work. It has given me a clear path toward my career in coaching while also allowing me to develop interests beyond sports. As I continue my education and athletic career, I look forward to applying the lessons I have learned both on and off the field to make a lasting impact in my community.

Throughout my academic career, I have had many teachers who have guided and supported me, but none have had a more significant impact on my growth than Dr. Dana Green. As my Speech and Debate and College Composition teacher, she challenged me to become a better writer, helped me develop confidence in my speaking skills, and, most importantly, made me feel valued beyond just being her student. Her patience, encouragement, and genuine interest in my life made a lasting impression on me, shaping both my academic abilities and personal growth.
One of the most defining aspects of Dr. Green’s influence was how she pushed me to be a stronger writer. College Composition was one of the most challenging classes I had ever taken, but she never let me settle for less than my best. She took the time to work through my essays with me, offering constructive feedback and guiding me toward improvement rather than simply pointing out mistakes. Her patience allowed me to develop confidence in my writing, and for the first time, I felt capable of expressing my thoughts in a way that was both clear and impactful. I carry the skills she taught me into every paper I write, knowing that my growth as a writer is a direct result of her dedication.
Beyond academics, Dr. Green also cared about me as a person. She didn’t just see me as another student in her classroom; she made an effort to build a professional relationship with me, taking the time to ask about my baseball seasons and future plans. She was genuinely interested in my successes and challenges, making it clear that she wanted to support me in all aspects of my life. Her ability to connect with students on a personal level made me look forward to her class, knowing I had a teacher who truly cared.
Dr. Green’s impact also extended beyond writing. Her Speech and Debate class helped me develop confidence in public speaking, a skill I knew would benefit me in the future. She understood that speaking in front of an audience wasn’t easy for everyone, and she provided a learning environment where students felt comfortable taking risks and improving at their own pace. Her encouragement helped me realize the importance of professional communication and how essential it is in both academic and real-world settings.
The way Dr. Green balanced high expectations with genuine care made her one of the most influential teachers I have ever had. She showed me that great educators are not just instructors but mentors who invest in their students beyond the classroom. Her influence has left a lasting mark on me, and I will always appreciate the lessons she taught me—not just about writing and speaking, but about perseverance, confidence, and the power of a teacher’s belief in their students.

Improving the relationship between law enforcement and the African American community in the United States requires intentional action, trust-building efforts, and community-focused initiatives. One of the most effective ways to foster positive relationships is through youth programs that encourage mentorship, engagement, and open communication between officers and young people. By creating opportunities for youth to interact with law enforcement in non-enforcement settings, agencies can help reshape perceptions, build trust, and strengthen communities.
One way law enforcement agencies can make a meaningful impact is by actively participating in and supporting youth mentorship programs. Many African American youth grow up with negative perceptions of police due to historical injustices, media portrayals, or personal experiences. When officers take on the role of mentors, they can change these narratives by providing guidance, support, and positive interactions. Programs such as the Police Athletic League (PAL) and Explorer programs allow officers to coach, mentor, and engage with young people in constructive ways. These initiatives provide youth with role models who encourage personal growth and development, helping them see officers as trusted community members rather than just enforcers of the law.
Another crucial step is establishing leadership and life-skills programs where officers work directly with young people to provide education on conflict resolution, career planning, and goal-setting. By hosting workshops on decision-making, financial literacy, and leadership skills, law enforcement can help African American youth build confidence and prepare for their futures. When officers are seen as partners in success rather than obstacles, relationships naturally improve. Additionally, programs that connect youth with officers for career mentorship opportunities, such as internships or ride-along programs, can foster mutual understanding and respect.
Sports and extracurricular activities also provide an excellent opportunity for officers to engage with African American youth in a positive setting. Organizing basketball leagues, football camps, or community service projects that involve both officers and young people allows for natural relationship-building. These activities break down barriers and create shared experiences that help redefine how youth view law enforcement. When young people see officers coaching their teams, volunteering in their schools, or participating in local events, it humanizes them and fosters respect.
Law enforcement agencies should also work with schools and after-school programs to build strong connections with students. Officers can visit classrooms to discuss topics such as leadership, resilience, and decision-making, showing students that they are invested in their success. In-school programs that focus on mediation and restorative justice can also help youth understand their rights and the role of law enforcement in their communities. These initiatives reduce misunderstandings and build trust at an early age, helping to prevent negative encounters later in life.
Additionally, officers must take an active role in listening to the concerns of African American youth. Hosting youth forums and discussion panels where young people can voice their opinions and share their experiences with law enforcement can provide valuable insights into community needs. Giving youth a platform to speak and feel heard fosters a sense of partnership rather than division.
By investing in youth programs that focus on mentorship, leadership, and engagement, law enforcement agencies can build stronger, more trusting relationships with the African American community. These initiatives create opportunities for young people to interact with officers in positive settings, breaking down stereotypes and fostering mutual respect. The future of law enforcement-community relations depends on early, meaningful engagement, and investing in youth is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change.

One of the most influential people in my life is my dad. He has always been someone I admire because of his unwavering work ethic, resilience, and dedication to our family. No matter what challenges he has faced, he has always led by example, showing me the value of hard work and perseverance. His determination to provide for us and his ability to stay calm under pressure have been qualities I strive to embody in my own life.
My dad has inspired me to pursue further education because he has always emphasized the importance of learning and growth. He taught me that success isn’t just about natural talent—it’s about putting in the effort, making smart choices, and continuously improving. His encouragement has pushed me to take my academics seriously, challenge myself in extracurricular activities, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond. Watching him work hard every day has reinforced my belief that education is the foundation for achieving my goals and making a difference in the world.
One way I have worked to develop my skills is by participating in speech and debate. I chose to take speech and debate because I recognize the importance of being able to speak confidently in front of others and express my thoughts in a professional and persuasive manner. Public speaking is an essential skill in any career, and I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone to improve in this area.
Speech and debate also taught me how to think critically, construct well-reasoned arguments, and respectfully defend my viewpoints. In today’s world, being able to communicate effectively and engage in meaningful discussions is more important than ever. I wanted to be prepared to articulate my thoughts clearly, whether in a classroom, a professional setting, or everyday life.
Beyond just improving my speaking skills, participating in speech and debate has helped me grow in confidence. Standing in front of an audience, defending an argument, or engaging in a structured debate can be intimidating, but I have learned to embrace these challenges and grow from them. These experiences have prepared me for future leadership roles, whether in my career or within my community.
My dad’s influence and my participation in speech and debate have shaped my approach to education and personal growth. His work ethic has motivated me to push myself academically, while my experience in speech and debate has given me the tools to communicate effectively and advocate for myself and others. As I continue my education, I will carry these lessons with me, using them to become a strong leader and make a positive impact in the world.

As a child, my biggest dream was simple—to play baseball for as long as I possibly could. The game captured my heart from an early age, filling my days with backyard batting practice, late-night games under the lights, and countless hours watching my favorite players on TV. Like many kids, I imagined myself stepping up to the plate in a Major League stadium, hitting a game-winning home run, and hearing the roar of the crowd. But beyond the excitement of playing, baseball gave me something even more valuable—it gave me direction. It kept me focused, disciplined, and committed to being a positive role model, especially for my younger brother.
Growing up, I quickly realized that not every path is free from distractions. Peer pressure was always present, especially in middle school and high school, when many of my friends started making choices that could have led me away from my goals. There were moments when it would have been easy to give in—to skip practice, to make reckless decisions, to follow the crowd instead of my own values. But every time temptation arose, I reminded myself of who was watching: my little brother. I knew that my actions didn’t just affect me; they shaped the example I set for him. Baseball gave me the structure and motivation to stay on the right path, pushing me to work harder, stay disciplined, and choose my future over short-term distractions.
Even though I no longer dream of being a professional player, baseball is still the foundation of my career goals. Instead of stepping onto a Major League field as a player, I want to step onto a college baseball field as a coach. The game that shaped me as a child is the same game I want to dedicate my life to, not just by teaching the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and pitching, but by helping young athletes develop the same discipline, confidence, and leadership that baseball instilled in me.
I have already taken steps toward this goal by working as a youth hitting instructor, where I get to guide younger players through the same journey I once walked. Seeing their excitement, their struggles, and their moments of triumph reminds me why I fell in love with the game in the first place. More importantly, it reinforces my belief that baseball is more than just a sport—it’s a tool for shaping character. I want to continue being a mentor, using my experiences to help players navigate not just the challenges of the game, but the challenges of life.
While my childhood dream of playing professional baseball may have evolved, my love for the game has never wavered. Baseball gave me purpose, kept me grounded, and helped me stay true to myself even when faced with difficult choices. Now, my dream is to pass that passion onto the next generation, ensuring that they too find motivation, discipline, and a lifelong love for the game.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
Baseball has been more than just a sport to me—it has been my foundation, my passion, and my greatest teacher. Through the game, I have learned discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership, lessons that extend far beyond the field. As I look toward my future, I know that my ultimate goal is to become a college baseball coach. I want to use my experiences and knowledge of the game to positively impact young athletes, shaping them not only as players but also as individuals. I have already taken my first steps toward this goal by working as a youth hitting instructor, and I am committed to continuing this journey as I move forward in my career.
One of the greatest aspects of coaching is the ability to inspire and mentor young athletes. Just like the coaches and older players who guided me throughout my baseball career, I want to be a leader who helps players develop both their skills and their character. Coaching is about more than just teaching mechanics—it’s about instilling values like hard work, accountability, and mental toughness. As a youth hitting instructor, I have already had the opportunity to work with young players, helping them refine their swings and approach at the plate. However, the most rewarding part has been seeing their confidence grow as they improve. Watching a player struggle, put in the effort, and finally succeed is one of the greatest feelings, and I want to continue being part of that process for years to come.
Beyond the technical side of coaching, I want to be a mentor who helps athletes navigate challenges both on and off the field. Sports can be an escape for many young people, providing structure and purpose in their lives. I have seen firsthand how baseball can keep players focused and motivated, steering them away from negative influences. In my own life, I chose baseball over bad decisions, using the game as my outlet instead of falling into peer pressure. I want to help my future players do the same, encouraging them to make positive choices and stay committed to their goals.
Coaching at the college level will allow me to have an even greater impact by preparing players for life beyond baseball. While some may continue to play professionally, the majority will take the lessons they’ve learned on the field and apply them to their careers, families, and communities. I want to instill the mindset that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about work ethic, resilience, and learning from failure. These lessons will carry them through life, helping them overcome adversity and push toward their dreams.
In the long run, I hope to create a program that not only develops great athletes but also produces great people. I want to build a culture where players support each other, hold themselves to high standards, and take pride in representing their team. I envision my future team as one that values leadership, integrity, and service, where players give back to their communities and inspire the next generation of athletes.
The impact I hope to make in the world starts with baseball, but it extends far beyond the game. By becoming a college baseball coach, I will have the opportunity to shape young athletes into strong, disciplined, and driven individuals. I have already begun this journey as a youth hitting instructor, and I will continue to dedicate myself to coaching, mentoring, and making a difference in the lives of my players. Through baseball, I will teach lessons that last a lifetime, ensuring that the impact of my coaching reaches far beyond the diamond.

The Movie That Shaped My Perspective: Bull Durham
Baseball has always been more than just a game to me—it’s a way of life, a teacher of discipline, and a path to self-discovery. That’s why Bull Durham has had the greatest impact on me. It’s not just a baseball movie; it’s a story about mentorship, resilience, and understanding that success isn’t always about natural talent—it’s about how you handle the challenges thrown your way.
At the heart of Bull Durham is Crash Davis, a veteran catcher brought in to mentor a raw but talented young pitcher, Nuke LaLoosh. Crash knows the game inside and out, not just in terms of skill, but also the mental and emotional aspects that separate good players from great ones. He teaches Nuke how to harness his ability, how to deal with pressure, and most importantly, how to respect the game. Their relationship reflects an important truth in both baseball and life: experience and wisdom are just as valuable as raw talent.
This theme resonates with me because I have experienced both sides of mentorship in my baseball journey. As a younger player, I looked up to older teammates who taught me not only how to play but how to carry myself on and off the field. Their guidance helped shape my work ethic and mindset. Now, as a senior and a leader on my team, I have embraced the role of mentor, working with younger athletes to help them develop their skills and confidence. Teaching youth players and working with teammates who are still finding their way has made me appreciate just how much leadership matters in shaping a team’s success.
Beyond baseball, Bull Durham also highlights the importance of resilience. Crash Davis never makes it to the Major Leagues, but instead of giving up, he finds purpose in helping others. That lesson is something I hold close. While I have big goals for my future in baseball and beyond, I also recognize that success isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s about lifting others up along the way. Whether it’s through coaching younger players, mentoring teammates, or applying my leadership skills in business and academics, I want to have a lasting impact.
Finally, Bull Durham reminds me to enjoy the game, to appreciate every inning, every at-bat, and every practice. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of performance, but baseball—and life—are about more than just statistics. The friendships, the moments of growth, and the lessons learned along the way are what truly matter.
In the end, Bull Durham is more than a movie about baseball. It’s a story about leadership, perseverance, and finding purpose in helping others. Those lessons have shaped the way I approach not only the game I love but also my future goals in college, career, and life.
Success Beyond Borders
Title: "Against the Curve"
Opening Scene: A Dusty Baseball Field at Sunset
The camera fades in on a small-town baseball field, the golden hues of a setting sun stretching long shadows across the dirt infield. The sound of a distant train rumbles softly in the background, mixing with the rhythmic creak of the batting cage and the sharp crack of a bat making solid contact. The field is nearly empty—just one player remains, a teenage boy standing in the batter’s box, sweat dripping from his brow as he squares up for another pitch.
The worn-out baseballs scattered around him tell a story of persistence, of hours spent perfecting a craft when no one else was watching. Dust clings to his uniform, his knuckles are raw from countless swings, and his cleats dig into the dirt as he readies himself for the next pitch. A pitching machine hums to life, launching a curveball that dives toward the plate—tempting, deceptive. Instead of flinching, he stays locked in, reading the spin, adjusting his timing, and driving the ball deep into the outfield. The ball soars, disappearing into the fading light.
A voiceover begins, carrying his thoughts as he picks up another baseball and steps back into the box:
"Life throws curveballs. Some you see coming, others take you by surprise. But if you keep your eyes open and stay ready, you learn how to adjust—how to take something meant to throw you off and turn it into a moment of strength."
The Journey Behind the Opening Scene
Growing up, I learned early that life doesn’t always give you the perfect pitch. It challenges you, tests your discipline, and forces you to make choices that define who you are. From middle school through high school, I faced moments where peer pressure and friendships tested my values. I watched as some of my classmates drifted toward trouble, making choices that could have easily pulled me in, too. Instead, I chose a different path—one built on hard work, discipline, and a commitment to my future.
Baseball became my escape, my passion, and my foundation. While others spent their nights at parties, I spent mine at the batting cages, on the field, or in the weight room. Every swing, every rep, and every drop of sweat reminded me of my purpose. Baseball wasn’t just a sport; it was a lesson in resilience. It taught me that setbacks are inevitable—bad calls, tough losses, and unexpected slumps—but those who push through come out stronger.
A Glimpse into the Future
As the opening scene fades, the camera shifts to a future version of me—walking onto a college baseball field, my jersey crisp, my mind focused. The stands are filled with fans, but my thoughts remain the same as they were on that dusty field back home: Keep your eyes on the ball. Stay patient. Be ready for whatever comes next.
Beyond baseball, I see myself stepping into the world of business—another passion that has shaped my aspirations. Through my experiences in FBLA and running a student-led business, I have developed an entrepreneurial mindset, learning to manage orders, work with customers, and navigate the challenges of marketing. Just like in baseball, business requires strategy, adaptability, and confidence in your own abilities. Whether I am at the plate or in a boardroom, I will continue to embrace the challenges, take the risks, and never back down from the curveballs that come my way.
The final shot of the opening scene shows me walking off the field, bat slung over my shoulder, the echoes of the game still lingering in the air. As I step toward the dugout, the voiceover returns:
"Some people fear the curveball. Others learn how to hit it out of the park."
Fade to black.

Middle school and high school are defining years, filled with challenges that shape a person’s values and character. One of the biggest struggles I faced was navigating friendships and peer pressure while staying true to myself. As I grew older, I realized that not all of my peers had the same support system or guidance at home. Many of them faced difficult situations, and as much as I wanted to be a good friend, I also had to make choices that aligned with my values and future goals.
In middle school, I found myself surrounded by peers who often made choices that could have led me down the wrong path. Whether it was skipping school, experimenting with risky behaviors, or disrespecting authority, I saw many of my classmates heading in a direction that I knew wasn’t right for me. I never wanted to judge or turn my back on them, but I also knew I had to set boundaries. It wasn’t always easy to walk away from situations where I felt pressured to fit in, but I reminded myself of the kind of person I wanted to be. Instead of following the crowd, I focused on being a positive role model for my peers—someone they could rely on, look up to, and trust.
One of the biggest ways I was able to rise above these challenges was through baseball. While many of my classmates spent their free time at parties or getting into trouble, I poured my energy into the sport I loved. Baseball became my outlet, my escape, and my motivation to stay on the right path. Whether it was practicing late into the evening, traveling for games, or working hard to improve my skills, baseball gave me a sense of purpose and belonging that I didn’t need to seek elsewhere. It was on the field where I built friendships with teammates who shared my values, where I learned discipline, and where I found the confidence to stand firm in my beliefs.
As I moved into high school, I continued to use baseball as my foundation. I committed myself to training, working hard in the classroom, and staying focused on my future. At the same time, I never forgot about my friends who were struggling. I made it a point to be a positive influence—offering support, listening when they needed to talk, and encouraging them to make better choices. I knew I couldn’t change everyone’s circumstances, but I hoped that by leading by example, I could show them that there were better paths to take.
Looking back, I am proud of the choices I made and the challenges I overcame. Staying true to myself wasn’t always easy, but it has shaped me into the person I am today. It has taught me the value of self-discipline, the importance of surrounding myself with the right people, and the power of using my passions to create a positive life. As I move forward, I will continue to carry these lessons with me, using them to guide my future decisions and to inspire others to stay true to themselves, no matter the pressures they face.
Wagner and Young Scholarship Opportunity
From a young age, I have been driven by a strong work ethic, a passion for leadership, and a desire to help others. Growing up, I was taught the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of giving back to my community. These principles have shaped my approach to academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities, and they continue to guide my aspirations for the future.
Throughout high school, I have been actively involved in student organizations, athletics, and community service. As a four-year varsity baseball player, I have learned the importance of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Baseball has not only challenged me to push myself physically and mentally but has also given me the opportunity to mentor younger athletes. Coaching youth hitters through the Fort Collins Baseball Club and serving as a camp instructor for K-8th grade students has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my athletic journey. Seeing young players develop their skills and confidence reminds me of the impact a mentor can have, and I plan to continue guiding and inspiring others through sports in the future.
Beyond athletics, my passion for business has played a significant role in shaping my career goals. Through my involvement in Business & Office Student Services (B.O.S.S.), I have gained hands-on experience in customer service, marketing, and product design. Managing multiple orders, working directly with customers, and learning how to promote services have strengthened my entrepreneurial mindset and reinforced my interest in the business world. Additionally, my participation in FBLA has provided opportunities to compete at the district, state, and national levels, further refining my leadership and problem-solving skills.
My commitment to service extends beyond the classroom and the field. As a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, I have organized and participated in various community service projects, including running baseball camps for elementary students, creating Christmas crafts for children, and leading a shoe drive for St. Jude’s Foundation. Giving back to my community has taught me that success is not just about personal achievements—it is about using my skills and opportunities to uplift others.
Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a degree in business at The College of Saint Scholastica while continuing to play college baseball. My ultimate goal is to build a career that combines my passion for business, sports, and leadership. Whether through entrepreneurship, sports management, or marketing, I want to create opportunities that inspire and empower others. One of my biggest aspirations is to develop programs that help young athletes gain access to training, mentorship, and resources that will help them succeed both on and off the field.
In addition to making an impact through sports, I also want to use my business knowledge to support and uplift small businesses. I have always admired entrepreneurs who take risks to bring their visions to life, and I hope to one day create a business that helps others achieve their goals. Whether through marketing, branding, or mentorship, I want to play a role in helping individuals and businesses grow and succeed.
Overall, I believe that the key to making a positive impact is leading with integrity, working hard, and staying committed to helping others. I am excited to take the next step in my education and career, knowing that the lessons I have learned through baseball, business, and service will guide me toward a future where I can make a real difference in the world.

My Vision for a Career in Sports Information
As a passionate baseball player and aspiring college baseball coach, my vision for a career in sports information involves creating a dynamic platform to share the stories of athletes, highlight their achievements, and engage fans with the heart and soul of the game. I see sports information as a powerful tool for fostering community, promoting athletic programs, and celebrating the dedication and hard work that athletes put into their craft. In my future career as a college baseball coach, I hope to leverage sports information to not only showcase the talents of my athletes but also to inspire and motivate future generations to pursue the game they love.
To succeed in the field of sports information, I believe several key skills are crucial. First and foremost, strong communication skills are essential. Whether it’s through writing press releases, creating social media content, or engaging with the media, the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and engagingly is critical. As a coach, I would use this skill to build relationships with players, staff, and the community, ensuring that the narrative surrounding our program is both authentic and inspiring. Additionally, attention to detail is vital in sports information—whether tracking statistics, compiling game notes, or producing reports, every detail matters in painting a complete picture of a team’s journey. Finally, creativity is necessary to stand out in a crowded media landscape. The ability to craft compelling stories, capture the essence of a game or athlete, and present it in a way that resonates with the audience is key to creating a lasting impact.
In terms of how I plan to develop these skills, I am already actively working to build my foundation. As a dedicated player on my high school baseball team, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the game, the nuances of teamwork, and the importance of strategy and preparation. My experiences on the field have instilled in me a strong work ethic, resilience, and the drive to continually improve—qualities that will help me excel in any professional setting, including sports information.
I’ve also taken advantage of opportunities to get involved with sports media and communication in my community. Through my role in my school’s sports teams, I’ve contributed to organizing events, creating content for social media platforms, and promoting team achievements. These experiences have allowed me to practice the skills of effective communication, marketing, and public relations, all while immersing myself in the sports world. Additionally, I’ve been involved in mentoring younger athletes, using my position as a role model to help shape their character and understanding of the game. This has reinforced my passion for coaching and for sharing the sport with others, further motivating me to pursue a career in sports information and coaching.
Looking ahead, my ambition is to combine my love for baseball with a career in sports information and coaching. I want to use my platform to highlight the achievements of athletes, tell the stories of those who are often overlooked, and promote the values of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. By becoming a college baseball coach, I hope to inspire not only the athletes I work with but also the broader community of fans, parents, and aspiring players. I plan to continue developing my skills in communication, media relations, and leadership throughout my academic and professional journey, and I am committed to making a positive impact on the game and the lives of those I mentor.

Pursuing My Passion: From Business-Finance to Coaching
Just like Ryan, I am a steward of my community, and family is very important to me. These values have shaped my academic and professional aspirations, leading me toward a career that combines my love for baseball, leadership, and financial strategy. After graduation, I plan to major in business-finance, using my education to develop a strong foundation in financial management, decision-making, and organizational leadership. My ultimate goal is to become a college baseball coach, where I can not only develop athletes on the field but also mentor them in life skills, financial literacy, and character development.
A uniquely tailored academic experience in high school has played a crucial role in shaping my future. Through rigorous business courses, leadership opportunities, and my involvement in extracurricular activities like FBLA, NHS, and student council, I have gained the skills necessary to excel in both business and athletics. These experiences have allowed me to develop problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a strong work ethic that will benefit me as both a business professional and a coach.
One of the most impactful aspects of my high school journey has been my involvement in FBLA. Through this organization, I have had the opportunity to compete in business-related events, work on real-world projects, and develop financial literacy skills. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of financial management, which will be invaluable as I navigate the business side of collegiate athletics—whether it’s managing budgets, fundraising, or handling recruiting expenses. Additionally, being a part of NHS and student council has strengthened my leadership abilities, teaching me how to work with diverse teams, make strategic decisions, and support those around me—essential qualities for both a coach and a business professional.
Beyond academics, baseball has been a defining part of my high school experience. Playing the sport at a competitive level has taught me discipline, resilience, and teamwork. I have learned how to handle pressure, push through adversity, and lead by example—all skills that I will carry into my future coaching career. My time on the field has reinforced my belief in the power of mentorship, and I hope to one day guide young athletes as they pursue their own dreams, both in sports and in life.
Family and community have also played a significant role in my journey. Growing up in a supportive environment where hard work and commitment were valued has shaped my perspective on leadership and service. I have seen firsthand the impact that strong mentors can have, and I aspire to be that kind of influence for future athletes.
By combining my business-finance degree with my passion for baseball, I will be equipped to excel in the competitive world of collegiate coaching. My business background will help me navigate the financial aspects of the profession, while my experiences in high school have provided me with the leadership and communication skills necessary to inspire and develop student-athletes. With a clear vision for my future and a strong foundation built during my high school years, I am ready to take the next step toward achieving my dream of becoming a college baseball coach.
Richter Orthodontics Scholarship
WinnerFrom a young age, I have been driven to succeed academically and athletically. My ultimate goal is to pursue a career in business, using the leadership and teamwork skills I have developed through years of hard work in school and on the baseball field. I will be attending The College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, MN, where I will be majoring in business while also fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing college baseball. The skills I gain from my education, combined with the discipline and perseverance I have developed through athletics, will prepare me for a successful career in business management, entrepreneurship, or coaching at the collegiate level. I believe that leadership is not just about personal success but about inspiring and helping others to reach their full potential.
This scholarship will play a crucial role in helping me achieve my goals. Because The College of Saint Scholastica is a Division III school, it cannot offer athletic scholarships, so I have worked hard to secure academic funding. Despite earning a 3.96 GPA and an SAT score of 1150, which has helped me cover a significant portion of my tuition and room and board, there is still a large financial gap to fill. Receiving this scholarship would alleviate some of the financial burden, allowing me to focus on excelling academically and athletically rather than stressing about how to afford my education. It would also give me the opportunity to fully invest in my studies and future career without the added pressure of excessive student debt.
Throughout my life, my dad has been my greatest influence. He has instilled in me the values of accountability, hard work, and integrity—qualities that have shaped me into the person I am today. He has always emphasized the importance of giving my best effort in everything I do, whether it be sports, academics, or relationships. His guidance has taught me that success is not just about talent, but about effort, discipline, and surrounding myself with people who push me to be better. He has always held me to high standards, not just in performance but in character, encouraging me to be a person of integrity no matter the situation. These lessons have made me a stronger leader, a better teammate, and someone who refuses to be outworked in the pursuit of my goals.
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering commitment to staying true to myself, even in the face of peer pressure. In today’s world, it is easy to be influenced by negativity, but I refuse to let that define me. I take pride in being someone who sees the good in others, remains positive, and stays grounded in my values no matter who I am around. Many teenagers struggle with identity, constantly adapting to fit in, but I have always remained confident in who I am. I believe this ability to be my authentic self, while also being a supportive and encouraging presence for those around me, is what makes me unique.
This scholarship would not only help me achieve my academic and career goals but also allow me to continue living out the values my dad has instilled in me. I am determined to work hard, make a positive impact on those around me, and pursue my dreams without compromise. With financial assistance, I will be able to focus on my education, develop my leadership skills, and take full advantage of the opportunities ahead of me. I am excited for the future and grateful for the chance to further my education while continuing to grow as a person and a leader.
