Bio

I moved to the USA when I was 16. My parents are my biggest motivators; they have always helped me to face challenges. Learning English was quite challenging because I had to avoid mixing French and Haitian Creole in my conversation. I was also a translator for my parents despite my level. Fortunately, my parents were beside me and encouraged me to keep consistency. Now that I have only one year in the USA, I am grateful for their support throughout my journey. I always wanted to study at a big university. As a first-generation student, a child from a low-income family, and immigrant, this dream appeared impossible until I saw this platform and decided to apply for scholarships. My dream is to be a businesswoman. I think this field suits me better because of my creativity and innovation. Besides, I am passionate about helping others. I also love writing and practicing math in my free time. My story shows how I can deal with challenges. When I set my mind on something, I am willing to work hard until I reach the objective.

    Lost Dreams Awaken Scholarship
I struggled with a lack of confidence when I was in 11th grade. This daily battle led to various problems, such as a decline in academic performance and strained friendships. Besides, I tended to be more solitary because I was afraid of everybody who was trying to be approachable. Because of this lack of confidence, I thought I was never enough to present or to do another task. Notwithstanding my ability to do the task, I always felt anxious because I was apprehensive. I used to envy people who had friends because I could not have the same. One day, I decided to change this behavior. When I moved to the USA in May 2023, I experienced many changes that pushed me to grow. I embraced a healthier lifestyle and practiced self-love instead of comparing myself with others. Academically, I was proud of myself because I had mostly A's and two B's. To sum up, this recovery journey taught me a sense of resiliency and self-improvement. Although it was difficult, it helped me to reach my full potential. Therefore, I believe that everyone can change a situation when you set your mind to it. Life will always come up with trials and obstacles, but always learn from them and keep your goals in sight.

On a Thursday afternoon, my life took an unexpected turn when my family and I moved to the United States in 2023, because of the dangerous conditions in my country, Haiti. We left everything behind because we were looking for a better future. Although this journey has been rough, I have learned a sense of resiliency. This journey has also been a source of inspiration for how I plan to manage my future after college. I always wanted to study at a big university. As a first-generation student, a child from a low-income family, this dream appeared impossible until I saw this platform and decided to apply for scholarships. When I graduated high school in June 2024, my parents were worried because I didn't receive scholarships to go to go to university. Therefore, I applied for this scholarship to help me pay the tuition. My parents have been working hard, but unfortunately, they can't afford to assist me in this process. I want to make them proud. As a result, I aim to apply for various scholarships so that they don't have to be worried about anything. Reaching this goal is not a piece of cake, but as Frederick Douglas said:" If there is no struggle, there is no progress." I can use my English journey as an example. Learning English was not easy for me at all. Thus, I will keep applying for scholarships and learn from my mistakes until I attain my dreams. I plan to study Finance (BSBA) at NOVA University and get my bachelor's degree. I will prioritize the tuition fee payment and the housing plan. It will also cover other necessary fees. After receiving scholarships to cover housing and tuition fees, I will focus on saving and investing in a small business online. Since I have struggled to get scholarships, I planned to be a donor and help students go to college debt-free. After mastering English, I also want to create a channel on YouTube to help my peers and other people speak English faster and guide them in the college field. My story would encourage them to stay consistent because I persevered a lot to get there. To sum up, paying for college is not easy. This scholarship will inspire me to help others. Life will always come up with trials and obstacles, but always learn from them and keep your goals in sight. My story shows how I can deal with challenges. When I set my mind on something, I am willing to work hard until I reach the objective. On top of that, I believe that helping peers enhances a sense of pride and accomplishment, and I am willing to continue doing it.

In high school, I struggled with a lack of confidence every day. Although this experience was terrible and melancholic in one way, I have learned how to be a resilient student and a good friend, and this experience led to my career choice of businesswoman. As Robert Schuller said: "Failure doesn't mean you are a failure; it just means you haven't succeeded yet." This quote explains my story because failure is not a destination; it's a way to push yourself harder. When I was in 7th grade, my grades dropped gradually; no matter how hard I tried, I never got the results I expected. Nevertheless, I didn't give up. In 8th grade, I watched more YouTube videos of tutors and practiced the exercises at home. I made progress but didn't reach the goal of being at the top of the class. In 9th grade, I lacked confidence because there was a genius in my class. She used to be at the top of the class, but I didn't let that discourage me. I worked hard and showcased my abilities by being the 2nd brilliant student in the class. I was now not afraid to dare or to express myself. In 10th grade, I started to focus more on my weaknesses and strengthen my potential. This class was arduous since there were more intelligent students. I remained focused on my goal until I got first place. Overall, this part of the journey was just a way to show that you must be consistent no matter what. I got confidence day by day. It's essential to be successful, but no success is complete without others. At first, I was skeptical about making friends or socializing with someone. However, when I became more competent, I felt something was missing. I didn't have friends. Those who decided to talk with me didn't want to be my friend. As a result, I decided to change my attitude towards people. I appeared more approachable and fun. Besides, I became a friend people can trust. As a result, I had friends that I trusted and appreciated. My confidence increased because my friends were a driving force for me. They've helped me to reach my goal while I provided them with my help when needed. My friends were always present to hype me up when I felt overwhelmed. Becoming a businesswoman is a choice that I recently discovered. The underlying cause behind this choice was when my friends pointed out my leadership and communication skills. Initially, I didn't want to do it because this field is risky. However, it turns out that I have been interested in businesses. Therefore, I have decided to study economics, business, and finance to be aware of this career. To sum up, this battle has helped me to reach my full potential. Although it was challenging, it was also a learning journey. Therefore, if I can overcome my lack of confidence and anxiety, you can do it too. Life will always come up with trials and obstacles, but always learn from them and keep your goals in sight.

I was born in a small community in Port-au-Prince, where I spent my childhood until I moved to the United States in 2023. I was not used to speaking English in Haiti, but had a minimal understanding. As a result, I could understand at 25%, but when I went to school, I improved and got better. Although this journey has been rough, I have acquired more knowledge of English and contributed to my family and classmates. This journey has also been a source of inspiration for how I plan to manage my future after college. Acquiring more knowledge of English Learning a new language requires persistence and dedication. My English learning journey comprised speaking, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. For the speaking part, as I said already, I was not used to speaking; therefore, I failed so many times, but I never gave up. As Oprah Winfrey said, "Failure is another stepping stone to greatness." This quote is related to my situation. I kept being consistent until I reached a better level of speaking. For grammar, my ESOL teacher provided me with a lot of support, and I got help from friends. I also watched videos in English on YouTube. Overall, all these things contributed to my increase in English. Contributing to my family and my classmates It's always important to give your peer a hand when needed. I know it can be harsh to move to a country where you are unfamiliar with the language and must deal with it. Therefore, for each Haitian who came to my school, I helped them overcome their fears and stay consistent when they wanted to give up. Once, a Haitian girl moved to the USA in the same month as me. This girl was always complaining about how she couldn't catch anything. To comfort her, I reminded her that if I could do it, she could too. Each day was an encouragement until she was proud of her efforts. Besides that, because I learned English faster than my parents, I always translated for them when they faced certain circumstances. Planning my future Since helping people has been one of my favorite hobbies, I have been thinking that I can create a channel where I am helping my fellow peers and other people to speak English faster and guide them in the college field. My story would encourage them to stay consistent because I persevered a lot to get there. Although I don't speak English as a Native American, I know I will with my hard work and dedication. Conclusion To sum up, my high school year has helped me develop more knowledge in English, contributed to my family and classmates, and inspired me for my post-college plans. Helping peers enhances a sense of pride and accomplishment, and I am willing to continue doing it.
