Working with young children has opened my eyes to just how much impact one person can have on a child’s life even in the smallest moments. One particular experience from my time working at a daycare changed me forever. It didn’t happen in a loud or dramatic way. It started with silence. But what followed was a transformation that showed me exactly why I want to dedicate my life to early childhood education.
It was the beginning of a new school year, and we had just welcomed a new group of toddlers into our classroom. Among them was a quiet little boy named Noah who clung to his mom’s leg with tearful eyes every morning. He barely spoke, didn’t engage in group activities, and often sat alone during playtime. The other teachers told me that Noah had been through some recent changes at home that made him withdrawn, and though they tried their best, he hadn’t opened up to anyone yet.
I made it my mission to reach him, not by forcing interaction, but by showing him consistent kindness, patience, and care. Each day, I greeted him with a smile, offered him a seat beside me during story time, and gave him space when he needed it. I started to notice the small shifts first: a glance up when I read his favorite book, a quiet nod when I asked if he wanted to help pass out crayons.
One day, during outdoor playtime, I was pushing a few of the children on the swings when I heard a tiny voice say, “Can I have a turn?” I turned around and there was Noah, looking up at me with a shy smile. I was stunned and overjoyed. Not only had he spoken for the first time in our classroom, but he had asked to join in.
From that moment forward, Noah slowly came out of his shell. He started coloring with other kids, laughing during music time, and eventually became one of the most engaged children in our class. His mom even pulled me aside one day, eyes filled with tears, and said, “I don’t know what you did, but thank you. He talks about you every day at home.”
That experience taught me that sometimes the most profound impact comes not from big, showy actions but from being consistent, gentle, and present. It reminded me that children don’t always need answers they need someone to see them, hear them, and believe in them. Noah didn’t need me to “fix” him; he needed someone to be patient enough to let him bloom on his timeline.
Since then, I’ve had countless opportunities to connect with children in different stages of growth and healing each one unique, each one full of potential. But Noah’s story continues to ground me. It reminds me why I chose this path, and why I’m so passionate about early childhood education.
Children are incredibly observant and emotionally intelligent, even when they can’t always express themselves. They thrive when they feel safe, respected, and loved. And as educators, we’re in a powerful position to nurture those conditions whether through lesson plans or simply by offering a warm smile and a steady hand.
Beyond the classroom, my love for working with children has inspired me to pursue a degree in education with a concentration in EC-6, along with a minor in psychology. I plan to become a kindergarten teacher in a low-income area, where I can be a steady and supportive figure for children who may not have that at home. My long-term goal is to become a child therapist, using both my classroom experience and psychological background to help children process trauma and build resilience.
Everything I’ve learned from Noah, from the daycare, and my upbringing has taught me that one caring adult can change the direction of a child’s life. I want to be that adult. I want to create spaces where children are not only taught but also seen, understood, and empowered.
One Bible verse that continues to guide me on this journey is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I believe every child has a future worth fighting for. I also believe that teachers have the sacred task of helping shape that future, one child at a time.
In the end, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that impact isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s a whispered “thank you,” a returned smile, or a child finally joining the game after weeks of watching from the sidelines. And when those moments happen, I’m reminded that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
Sweet Dreams Scholarship
Community, to me, is about showing up for others especially when it’s hard. It’s about connection, selflessness, and resilience. Being part of a community has shaped my sense of hope for the future because it reminds me that even in chaos, kindness and courage can shine through. Through both my work as a lifeguard and as a daycare teacher, I’ve seen firsthand the power of people coming together, and it’s inspired me to be someone others can count on.
One of the most intense moments of my life happened during my time as a lifeguard at Hurricane Harbor. I was stationed at the bottom of a 12-foot waterslide when a young man who couldn’t swim came rushing down. The moment he hit the deep water, panic took over. I immediately jumped in to help, but as I pulled him above the surface, he grabbed onto me in fear, unintentionally pushing me under. I struggled to stay afloat while trying to keep him safe. Eventually, another lifeguard jumped in and pulled us both to safety. I had nearly drowned, but the guest was eternally grateful. That moment taught me the true meaning of service putting others first, even when it comes at a personal cost.
That experience didn’t scare me away—it strengthened my purpose. I realized that being part of a community means being willing to act, even in the most frightening moments. It’s not about being a hero; it’s about choosing compassion and courage again and again. People remember the ones who show up and that’s exactly who I want to be.
The same commitment carries into my work at a daycare. Each day, I care for children from all backgrounds, many facing challenges outside of school. I teach them how to express emotions, explore their curiosity, and believe in themselves. Watching a shy child gain confidence or a frustrated child finally master a new skill reminds me why early support matters. Just like saving someone in the water, nurturing a child’s growth can change their entire future.
These experiences have taught me that community is built through presence, patience, and love. Whether I’m holding a toddler through their first day of daycare or pulling someone from the water, I’ve learned that we are all capable of lifting one another—even in the toughest circumstances.
My faith also anchors my hope for the future. One verse that has guided me through every challenge is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This verse reminds me that everything I’ve been through the fear, the victories, the struggles has a purpose. It gives me confidence that my life is meant to bring light and hope to others.
My dream is to become a kindergarten teacher and later a child therapist, specializing in helping kids who have experienced trauma or adversity. I want to be the person who shows up for children and gives them a safe space to grow, believe, and thrive.
In every pool I’ve jumped into and every classroom I’ve stepped into, I’ve discovered what it means to live with purpose. I’ve learned that resilience means rising after the hardest moments. That kindness, even in crisis, leaves a lasting impact. And that hope lives in every act of connection and care we offer to the world.
Iliana Arie Scholarship
Growing up in a single-mother household shaped me into the strong, determined, and compassionate person I am today. My mother wore many hats, provider, nurturer, protector, and motivator and I watched her work tirelessly to give me a better life, even when the odds were stacked against us. Her strength became my foundation, and her sacrifices became my motivation to succeed, not just for myself but for others who face similar struggles.
Many moments tested us, there were days when the bills barely got paid, when we had to rely on faith more than finances, and when life felt uncertain. But instead of letting those moments break me, they built resilience. I learned early on the value of hard work, the power of education, and the importance of believing in yourself even when circumstances say otherwise. I carry those lessons with me in everything I do.
Being raised by a single mother also made me more empathetic. I know what it feels like to have to grow up quickly, to take on responsibility at a young age, and to push through adversity with limited resources. That’s why I want to dedicate my life to serving children, especially those from underserved communities. I believe that no matter where you come from, you deserve access to quality education, emotional support, and someone who believes in your potential.
I am currently majoring in education with a concentration in early childhood, and minoring in psychology. My dream is to become a kindergarten teacher and, later, a child therapist specializing in working with children who have experienced trauma, instability, or hardship. I want to create a safe and nurturing environment for young children, especially those who come from homes like mine, and show them that they are capable of greatness.
My purpose is not only to teach but to inspire. I want to be the kind of adult I needed when I was younger someone who listens, encourages, and gives hope. My life may have started with challenges, but I believe those very challenges are what fuel my desire to make a difference. They give me the empathy to connect, the strength to lead, and the heart to serve.
I plan to make a positive impact on the world by reaching children early when their minds are open and their hearts are forming. I want to help them see that their beginnings do not define their endings. Whether it’s through a lesson, a conversation, or just showing up for them every single day, I hope to be a light in their lives.
Coming from a single-mother household didn’t limit me it prepared me. It taught me that success isn’t about having everything; it’s about making the most of what you have and lifting others along the way. With every child I teach, I plan to pay forward the love, strength, and hope my mother gave me.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11
This verse has followed me throughout my journey and reminds me that my purpose is rooted in hope, growth, and service to others, especially children. My love of learning is more than just academic; it’s a calling to inspire, educate, and uplift the next generation. This passion has shaped my growth, transformed my outlook on life, and pointed me toward a future in early childhood education.
My journey began in a daycare classroom. I was seventeen when I got my first job helping out with preschoolers. I thought I was simply earning a paycheck, but each day I spent reading to curious little minds, comforting crying toddlers, and watching children discover something new sparked something deep inside me. I realized that learning is not just something children do, it’s something that transforms them. And being part of that transformation made me fall in love with teaching.
Every child I’ve worked with has taught me something new about resilience, creativity, patience, and joy. I’ve seen children light up when they learn to write their name for the first time or finally count to ten without help. These moments have not only deepened my curiosity about how children learn but have also challenged me to become a more empathetic and thoughtful educator.
These amazing experiences have navigated my decision to major in education with a concentration in early childhood and to pursue a minor in psychology. I want to understand how children grow emotionally, mentally, and developmentally so I can meet them where they are and guide them forward. I especially want to serve children who feel overlooked or unheard. I believe that every child deserves a champion someone who believes in them even before they believe in themselves. I want to be that person.
My love of learning has also changed how I view the world. I no longer see challenges as setbacks, but as opportunities to grow. I no longer think success is about perfection, but about persistence. I’ve learned that real education isn’t just about books and tests, it’s about connection, purpose, and helping others realize their potential.
Looking ahead, I see this passion guiding my future in two ways. First, I plan to become a kindergarten teacher in underserved communities where I can create a loving, supportive environment for children to thrive. Second, I hope to further my education and become a child therapist, using both my teaching experience and psychology background to support children beyond the classroom.
My ultimate goal is to be a source of light and encouragement to young minds, especially those who feel like the world has forgotten them. Through education, I want to give them the tools, confidence, and faith to build a future filled with hope just as Jeremiah 29:11 promises.
My love of learning has never been just for me. It’s a fire I want to pass on to every child I teach a fire that says you are capable, you are important, and you have a future worth fighting for.

The challenges I have faced and the lessons I’ve learned throughout my life have shaped my unique talents and skills, preparing me to contribute to a more empathetic and understanding global community. Growing up as a low-income Black student with divorced parents, I’ve experienced firsthand the impact of systemic inequities and emotional struggles. These experiences have taught me resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to serving others—qualities I will use to foster connection and understanding across diverse communities.
As a future teacher and child therapist, I am dedicated to creating environments where every individual feels valued, understood, and safe. My talent for building relationships, even with those from different backgrounds, will allow me to connect with students and families in meaningful ways. In the classroom, I plan to cultivate a culture of inclusivity, where diversity is celebrated and where empathy is both taught and modeled. By incorporating lessons on cultural awareness and emotional intelligence into my teaching, I will equip my students with the skills needed to engage respectfully and thoughtfully with others.
My ability to understand emotional struggles is another talent I will use to build a more empathetic world. Growing up in a divorced family taught me the importance of emotional support and the power of feeling heard. As a child therapist, I will use this understanding to guide children in processing their emotions and developing self-confidence. By helping young people feel secure and validated, I aim to create a ripple effect of kindness and understanding that extends beyond individuals to communities at large.
My faith has also played a pivotal role in shaping my talents for fostering empathy and compassion. It has taught me to see every person as a reflection of God’s love and to approach each interaction with humility and care. Guided by this perspective, I will encourage others to find common ground, even in moments of disagreement or misunderstanding. Whether in the classroom, therapy sessions, or broader community work, I will strive to inspire hope and connection by showing others that they are seen, valued, and supported.
In addition to my professional goals, I plan to use my voice to advocate for systemic change. My experiences with poverty and underfunded schools have given me a deep understanding of the barriers many children face. By addressing these issues on a larger scale—through education policy, community programs, or partnerships with organizations—I will work to create equitable opportunities for all, ensuring that no one’s potential is limited by their circumstances.
Building a more empathetic and understanding global community starts with small, intentional acts of kindness, and I believe my unique talents and skills equip me to lead this effort. Whether it’s by teaching students to appreciate diversity, supporting children through emotional challenges, or advocating for social justice, I am committed to creating a world where compassion and understanding guide our interactions. By drawing on my past, my faith, and my vision for the future, I will help bridge divides and foster a legacy of empathy that transcends borders.

My upbringing was marked by struggles that shaped my character, values, and aspirations. Growing up as a low-income Black student with divorced parents, I faced challenges that could have easily defined my life by limitations. Instead, I leaned on my faith as a source of strength and guidance, allowing me to turn obstacles into opportunities for growth. Through every trial, my unwavering belief in God’s plan helped me build resilience, find purpose, and cultivate a vision for a brighter future, not just for myself, but for others.
Living in poverty taught me how it feels to face barriers beyond your control. I often experienced frustration and uncertainty, wondering if my efforts would be enough to overcome the systemic inequities stacked against me. Yet, it was in those moments of doubt that my faith became my anchor. Scripture reminded me that hardships are not permanent but are instead opportunities to strengthen my trust in God’s timing and provision.
Being a Black student in underfunded schools added another layer of challenge, as I often felt overlooked and undervalued. However, my faith reassured me of my worth and potential, pushing me to strive for excellence despite the odds. It also inspired my desire to become an educator, not just to teach academic subjects, but to affirm my students’ intrinsic value and help them realize their God-given gifts, even in the face of adversity.
Growing up in a divorced family also shaped my journey. Navigating two households and witnessing my parents’ struggles often left me feeling emotionally torn. Yet, through prayer and reflection, I found peace and understanding. My faith taught me the importance of forgiveness, love, and perseverance, which I now carry into my relationships and aspirations. These experiences motivated me to pursue a career in child therapy, where I can provide children with the emotional support I once longed for.
Faith has been my constant companion in both my challenges and triumphs. When I achieved milestones that once felt out of reach such as excelling in school or earning opportunities to advance my goals,it was my faith that reminded me to remain humble and grateful. I’ve learned that success is not only a personal victory but also an opportunity to serve others and reflect God’s love.
As I move forward, I will continue to rely on my faith to guide my path. As a teacher, I will create classrooms where every child feels valued, understood, and safe. My faith will inspire me to lead with compassion and patience, ensuring that I meet my students’ academic and emotional needs. As a child therapist, I will offer hope and healing, drawing on the empathy I’ve gained through my own struggles and the strength my faith has given me.
My journey has been one of transformation adversity into ambition and relying on God’s grace to overcome every obstacle. This opportunity is meaningful to me because it aligns with my mission to honor my past by building a future where every child feels seen, supported, and loved. With faith as my foundation, I am determined to create a legacy of empowerment and safety, proving that no challenge is too great when guided by God’s hand.

Essay: From Struggles to Legacy: Building a Future of Understanding and Safety
My upbringing was marked by struggles that shaped my character, my values, and my aspirations. Growing up as a low-income Black student with divorced parents, I learned early on how adversity can define lives but also how resilience can redefine them. While financial hardship and family instability could have discouraged me, they instead ignited a passion within me to create change for others who feel unseen and unsupported. These challenges became the foundation for my mission: to become a teacher and child therapist who ensures that every child feels valued, understood, and loved.
Living in poverty taught me how it feels to face barriers beyond your control. I often experienced the frustration of wanting to succeed academically while navigating a lack of resources and support. Being a Black student in underfunded schools also meant encountering systems that didn’t always recognize or nurture my potential. This inspired my desire to become an educator—not just to teach academic subjects, but to affirm my students’ worth and help them realize their potential despite systemic inequities.
At the same time, growing up in a divorced family shaped my understanding of emotional challenges. I experienced the complexities of navigating two households, witnessing my parents’ struggles, and feeling the weight of emotions I didn’t always have the tools to process. This motivated me to pursue a career in child therapy, where I can provide children with the emotional support I once needed. I want to help them navigate their feelings and empower them to grow into resilient individuals who know they are not alone.
I will use my experiences to build a legacy of empowerment and safety for children. As a teacher, I will create classrooms that celebrate diversity, where every child feels seen and understood. I will integrate social-emotional learning into my teaching, equipping students with tools to manage their emotions and build positive relationships.
As a child therapist, I will go beyond just addressing problems—I will be a source of hope and healing. I’ll use my understanding of struggle to connect with children on a deeper level and guide them toward self-confidence and security. I’ll ensure they feel validated and supported, no matter their circumstances.
My journey from adversity to ambition is my greatest strength. It has shown me the importance of compassion, resilience, and the power of lifting others up. By becoming a teacher and therapist, I will honor my past while building a future where every child feels valued, understood, and loved unconditionally. This is the legacy I am determined to create, a legacy rooted in my struggles but destined to inspire and transform lives.

As a sophomore embarking on my academic journey, I am driven by a profound sense of purpose to pursue a career in nursing and make a lasting impact on healthcare. My decision to enter nursing is deeply rooted in personal experiences, a passion for helping others, and a commitment to addressing disparities in healthcare access and representation.
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by families navigating the complexities of the healthcare system, particularly when caring for sick infants. These experiences instilled in me a sense of empathy and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others. As an ill child, I understand the importance of compassionate care and the critical role nurses play in providing support and comfort to patients and their families during times of vulnerability.
Furthermore, as a woman of color, I am acutely aware of the lack of diversity in the nursing profession and its impact on healthcare outcomes for marginalized communities. By pursuing a career in nursing, I aim to serve as a role model for aspiring nurses from similar backgrounds, advocating for greater representation and equity within the healthcare workforce.
Attending Prairie View A&M University, a historically black institution will provide me with a supportive environment that celebrates African American culture and history while offering a diverse learning experience. Through my education and experiences at PVAMU, I will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and cultural competence necessary to address the unique healthcare needs of underserved populations.
Upon completing my nursing degree, I plan to leverage my education and experiences to impact healthcare. One of my goals is to specialize in pediatric intensive care, where I can provide specialized care to sick children and support their families during challenging times. I recognize the importance of diversity in healthcare leadership and aspire to hold leadership positions within healthcare organizations, advocating for policies and practices that promote health equity and access for all.
Additionally, I am passionate about global health and plan to participate in study abroad programs and initiatives like Doctors Without Borders to gain insights into healthcare systems worldwide and contribute to international efforts to improve health outcomes. By working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and community partners, I aim to address the social determinants of health and promote health equity locally and globally.
In conclusion, my decision to pursue a career in nursing is driven by a deep-seated desire to impact healthcare and positively address disparities in access and representation. Through my education, experiences, and commitment to serving others, I am confident I can contribute to a more equitable and compassionate healthcare system for all.

By immersing myself in this vibrant environment, I will gain a deeper understanding of my heritage while surrounded by peers with similar backgrounds and experiences. This unique community of support and understanding among faculty and students will prepare me for success in a culturally diverse world.
After graduating from Prairie View, I am eager to learn and grow in early childhood education so that I can significantly impact young children's lives. Teaching a kindergarten class, with its mix of creativity, playfulness, and structure, is a role that I am excited to take on. I understand the responsibility of fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for young children to help develop critical social skills and support their emotional well-being. My plans include advocating for the recognition and fair compensation of All educators. I aspire to use my skills and knowledge to improve the education systems.
Attending PV will be an opportunity for personal and academic growth and a chance to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable education system.
Marjorie Moriole Early Childhood Education Scholarship
Teaching a kindergarten class requires a mix of creativity, playfulness, and structure. I would employ various methods tailored to different learning styles and interests to creatively teach and engage my students. There are many different learning styles, such as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, verbal, logical, social, and solitary. Knowing what learning style best represents each student is the key to ensuring all students are engaged and having fun while learning.
Growing up in school, I was always a kinesthetic learner. I loved Hands-on activities like blocks, playdough, and puzzles. Sensory Play provides activities that engage the senses, such as sand or water tables, sensory bins, and textured materials. These activities can be calming and help develop fine motor skills. Children are fixated on many aspects of life. By incorporating Thematic Learning, I will organize lessons around themes that interest children, such as animals, space, or fairy tales. This approach integrates multiple subjects like math, science, and literacy into a cohesive and engaging environment. Thus, setting up different learning centers in the classroom focuses on activities such as reading, art, building, and sensory play, allowing children to rotate through these centers and giving them autonomy and various experiences.
One of my favorite times was always story time. By engaging in story time with puppets, props, and dramatic voices to bring stories to life encourages children to act out parts of the story, enhancing their comprehension and engagement. Studies show that children often resonate with Music and Movement. By Incorporating songs, dances, and rhythm activities into lessons, Music helps with memory retention, and movement keeps children active and focused. I also plan to take classes outside when possible. Nature walks, garden planting and outdoor games can teach children about science, the environment, and teamwork while providing a change of scenery.
Just like children, I love using my imagination. I am to create scenarios where children can role-play different professions or characters. This encourages imaginative Play and helps with social skills and language development. I also plan to combine art projects with lessons because This fosters creativity and reinforces learning.
Finally, age-appropriate educational apps and interactive whiteboards should be introduced to make learning fun and interactive. Apps that teach phonics, math, and problem-solving can be highly beneficial. I plan to Establish a consistent daily routine to give children a sense of security but include flexible periods for spontaneous and creative activities. I will also use praise, stickers, and rewards to reinforce positive behavior and achievements. Celebrate their efforts to build confidence and motivation.
By combining these strategies, I aim to create a safe, engaging, and dynamic learning environment that excites students about learning and helps them develop a love for knowledge.

Mental Health Scholarship for Women
My mental health has affected my college experience in more ways than ever. Both positively and often negatively. When I arrived at Prairie View A&M University, I was ecstatic to be the first person in my family to attend an HBCU—the school year started great. We had panther camp, which was so much fun. I made many new friends, got involved on campus, and attended college parties. Life was good. Soon, reality hit. As the school year truly began, life wasn't sunshine and rainbows every day.
As the weeks passed, it all became very draining between keeping up with assignments, living on my own, and trying so hard to be a social butterfly. My mental health took a significant toll when I started procrastinating more and sleeping in instead of going to class; I found myself becoming very homesick, missing my dog and old friends, and struggling to keep up in school. I was failing three out of my six classes. This caused me to break down. Why was school becoming so hard for me? At first, I didn't know why I was doing poorly in school. After talking to my counselor and consulting with teachers, I realized I didn't understand the classwork and needed to work hard to grasp the material better.
On top of my poor academic performance, I wasn't doing anything to take the pressure off of being a full-time student for the first time away from home. My mental health was at an all-time low, and it was affecting my everyday life more negatively than ever. I stopped having a social life and mostly spent time alone in my dorm. After weeks of feeling hopeless and depressed, I had to do something. This could not be my life, sitting around uninspired and lonely. I was only making things worse.
I decided to talk to someone I felt comfortable sharing my problems with. A friend next door. After we talked, she revealed that she was also going through a lot, and her academic performance and personal life were affected. We were in the same boat in my eyes. Just one conversation with her let me know that everyone goes through tough times, and in the end, we all need someone there to help pick up the pieces. We decided to help each other and tried to better our mental health together. We started going to the library to study almost every day. Being there allowed us to focus on what we were here for: Our degree. We were surrounded by like-minded individuals who dedicated more time to learning.
By doing this, we managed to get our grades up to passing. This positively affected my mental health. I wasn't worried about failing classes or the burden of retaking them the next semester, and I was happier than ever. By not stressing about grades, I found time to relax and do things that contributed to maintaining a positive mental state. I joined the gardening and agriculture club, where I felt at ease caring for plants and being one with nature. Doing this became a part of my weekly routine. And once I figured out my niche, I was unstoppable.
Taking time out of my daily routine to do what makes me happy is an essential step when it comes to prioritizing my mental health.
I felt good about everything for once and knew that if I kept focusing on what gave me joy while not stressing so hard about school, my mental health would be the best it has ever been.

Betty and Earl Hinson Scholarship
My soccer coach has made the most significant impact on my life. He has been a part of my life for over ten years, and I have learned many lessons from him. My coach was diagnosed with cancer some years ago. Dealing with cancer was a difficult and challenging experience but also an opportunity for personal growth and inspiration. This was the first time in my life I was faced with something like this.
My coach has exhibited many wonderful qualities and demonstrated how true soldiers carry themselves in life. First, he has shown remarkable resilience and strength. He never let us see him down and out. He always maintained himself despite the diagnosis and always showed up ready and prepared. Being a witness to this kind of courage has helped inspire me to remain determined and persevere.
Seeing my coach go through cancer treatment gave me a new perspective on life and helped me prioritize what is truly important. I saw firsthand what my coach saw as necessary in his life. He made it a point to express that to the team at every chance. Observing this inspired me to reevaluate my priorities and live a more fulfilling life. I started to let the small stuff go and focus on what was truly special and important to me, my family.
Our community and team ensured that we showed support and empathy to our coach and his family. Being active in this kind of care and compassion has encouraged me to be more compassionate and understanding toward others. You never know what a person's day or life is like. Therefore, we must remember that it's not always about ourselves.
Wow, my coach was diagnosed with cancer. One thing that I can say for sure is that, despite the challenges of this cancer diagnosis, my coach maintained a positive attitude and outlook on life. He came to every practice and every game in high spirits, even when he wasn't feeling his best. Seeing him maintain a positive outlook was genuinely inspirational and encouraged me to adopt a more positive mindset in my own life. Going through this difficult time has helped me to appreciate the small things in life and to express gratitude to the people and experiences that bring me joy. However, I came out of this challenge having a more thankful attitude in my own life and appreciating my blessings. I would have never thought that something so negative would have such a positive impact on my life, but it did!

Jeremiah 29;11 states I know the plans I have for you; thus, says the Lord. Plans to give you a future filled with Hope. I am Hope for the future. Initially, I wanted to teach little children, and that desire evolved into caring for children, which resulted in my decision to become a Neonatal nurse.
My goal is to obtain my nursing degree after four years of college. During this time, I plan to complete my first two years at college and then participate in studying nursing abroad. I want to gain different perspectives on infectious diseases, healthcare systems, public health, and sociology and master a foreign language, all while continuing to gain nursing experience by working and helping less fortunate sick children.
Pursuing a career in nursing will be incredibly rewarding, as I will have the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful difference in patients' lives. I have a strong passion for helping children and a desire to make a positive impact in healthcare. I aim to study abroad and learn about different healthcare systems and perspectives, providing valuable insights and experiences that can benefit my future patients and me.
Another reason I am very passionate about my career choice is that there aren't enough female African American Nurses that specialize in caring for kids in the intensive care unit. 6.7% of nurses are black; That is not nearly enough nurses who look like me. My dream is to pursue a career in nursing to help children who were once like me and also to diversify the nursing community.
As for my goal of increasing diversity in the nursing field, that is also an essential mission. Representation and diversity in healthcare ensure patients receive culturally competent and compassionate care. By pursuing a career in nursing, I am helping children and families, serving as a role model, and inspiring others to consider the same path. With my dedication, passion, and drive, I am confident that I will positively impact the lives of many.
Increasing racial diversity in healthcare can ensure that underrepresented groups have a voice and are adequately represented in decision-making processes. This can lead to improved access to care and better health outcomes for these communities.
A more diverse healthcare workforce can also create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all patients, regardless of race or ethnicity. This can improve the overall patient experience and contribute to greater patient satisfaction.
By valuing and promoting diversity in healthcare, we can work towards creating a healthcare system that is equitable and accessible to all, regardless of race or ethnicity. This is essential for building a just and fair society and promoting all individuals' health and well-being.
Bold Best Skills Scholarship
I believe I have many great skills, but my best skill is my hands. I use my hand to do everything, cook, clean, type this essay (lol)but most importantly do hair. I have loved doing hair ever since I was 7 years old. I even used to cry when my mom told me I couldn't do my hair. That's how much I loved doing my hair. I have a very big passion for hair because creating different styles allows me to express myself creatively through my hair. and I'm obsessed with it. I love coloring my hair, braiding it, and just toughing my hair. When I'm sad I so my hair, if I'm bored I do my hair, so I'm constantly doing something with my hair. Improving this skill took lots of time and effort. Every morning I have a new style for my hair. And I'm constantly practicing my skills with my family and friends to perfect my craft. I have a little more to learn but once I learn everything I can learn about the magical wonders of hair, I'm going to be unstoppable.

Sander Jennings Spread the Love Scholarship
My self-love journey has been kind of crazy during this Global pandemic. The first half we were stuck inside with only our family members and ourselves, with all that time what better time to glow up! Throughout quarantine, I was on YouTube, and Tik Tok, and I would see people posting ‘’quarantine is the time to glow up,’’ ‘’quarantine is the time to get your perfect body, Perfect Skin, or whatever you desire for yourself because what better time to do this when you're stuck at home with nothing to do’’. As I saw these posts I thought to myself ‘’wow this is a good time to glow up and be the person I've always wanted to be’’, since I have nothing else to do, right?
Wrong! What I was believing was that I wasn't perfect, I wasn't the person who I wanted to be, and needed to ‘’fix’’ myself, which is what I thought needed to happen to be accepted. Very slowly I started to change little things about myself like my fashion. I wanted to dress differently and not like every other girl in my school, wearing tube tops and ripped jeans and white Vans. I wanted to be different. So I decided to do a wardrobe makeover and I started to dress how I wanted to, but my family looked at me differently and would ask me questions like ‘’why are you dressing like a boy’’? It made me feel like I wasn't supposed to wear those types of clothes. So I eventually stopped wearing them and started looking for new types of clothes
Later on, I became more interested in more ‘’girly’’ type of clothes and I started buying a lot of skirts. For a girl who's never worn a skirt, I think I went overboard. (I had about 14 skirts!)Just as I started to wear more girly clothes I would see tik toks of girls wearing boys clothes and the comments would be like ‘’you're so pretty’’ or, ‘’oh my gosh I love your fit’’.I was in shock, these girls were dressing how I wanted to and they weren't seen as ‘’boyish’’ or not girly enough. Even though I liked wearing girly clothes I also wanted to wear boyish clothes. I came to realize that I could wear both and I wouldn't care what people thought of me. Once I was confident in my outfit I posted a picture of it on my Instagram and a bunch of the comments were very positive and many of the girls in my comments were complimenting my outfit.
Even though I liked the attention from others I didn't need it. I had already learned to love myself through fashion and how to stop caring what others thought of me. I am so grateful that I figured out who I was and how to love myself through fashion. This quarantine helped me figure out how to love and express myself and I'm glad that I figured it out.
