BIPOC Urban Innovators Scholarship
In addition to my academic background and hands-on experience, I’ve taken steps to further deepen my understanding of urban planning and economics through internships with local governments and non-profit organizations. These experiences have allowed me to gain practical knowledge about zoning laws, affordable housing programs, and urban renewal projects. Working with city planners and policy advocates has given me valuable insight into the complexities of urban development, and it has reinforced my belief in the need for balanced, inclusive growth. I’ve also been involved in grassroots initiatives that aim to engage communities in the decision-making process, ensuring that urban development doesn’t occur at the expense of marginalized populations but rather with their input and needs at the forefront.
As I continue to study urban planning, I’ve become increasingly aware of the interconnectedness of issues like housing affordability, climate change, and economic inequality. For example, the gentrification of neighborhoods often leads to increased environmental burdens for low-income communities, and the rising cost of housing can lead to homelessness or displacement, further entrenching social divides. This understanding drives me to explore solutions that not only address one problem but take a holistic approach to creating resilient, sustainable cities that prioritize equity and environmental health.
The work I plan to do in the future will focus on advancing policies that promote affordable housing development while simultaneously protecting the environment. This includes supporting initiatives like green building practices in affordable housing, advocating for transit-oriented development that provides residents with access to jobs, education, and healthcare, and working with local governments to create affordable housing incentives that prioritize low-income residents without contributing to further gentrification. I also intend to focus on improving public infrastructure, which is essential for creating thriving urban communities.
My commitment to these causes is fueled by a combination of personal experiences and academic pursuits. Throughout my life, I’ve seen how urban policies can either uplift or undermine the well-being of residents, and this has only deepened my commitment to fighting for equity and sustainability in the built environment. I want to be a part of the solution to some of the most pressing challenges facing cities today, including homelessness and the lack of affordable housing, and contribute to building cities that foster a sense of community and opportunity for all their residents.
What drives me is the potential to change lives through thoughtful, intentional urban planning. By pursuing a career in this field, I hope to not only make a lasting impact on urban communities but also inspire future generations to think critically about how we can create cities that are more inclusive, sustainable, and just. I believe that with the right planning, policies, and community involvement, we can create environments where everyone has the chance to succeed.
Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
One of the most significant challenges I’ve overcome in my life was failing two courses in a nursing program. This was a major setback that made me question my abilities and my future in the healthcare field. I struggled with balancing academics and personal issues, which led to my academic struggles. However, instead of letting this defeat me, I chose to view it as an opportunity to grow. I sought advice from professors, improved my study habits, and worked hard to better manage my time and stress. I also leaned on my faith for strength and guidance, trusting that God had a plan for me. Eventually, my efforts paid off, and I was able to get back on track and pursue my nursing goals with a renewed sense of purpose. This experience taught me the importance of resilience and the value of seeking help when needed.
This scholarship will help me continue my education and, ultimately, become a nurse who can make a difference in my community. Nursing is a profession that allows me to directly care for individuals, especially those who are most vulnerable. By providing me with financial support, this scholarship will ease the burden of tuition and allow me to focus more on my studies. Once I graduate, I hope to use my skills to work with underserved populations, particularly in Portland, Oregon, where homelessness is a critical issue. I believe that through my nursing practice, I can contribute to improving the health and well-being of my community, offering care, empathy, and resources to those in need.
Philately is a fascinating hobby that not only teaches about history and geography but also provides an opportunity to engage with the world in a unique and meaningful way. To encourage young people to pursue this hobby, I would highlight its educational value—each stamp represents a piece of history, an event, or a cultural symbol, making it an engaging way to learn about different countries, historical milestones, and artistic design. I would also emphasize the social aspect of philately, as it offers opportunities to connect with other collectors, exchange stamps, and participate in stamp clubs or exhibitions. Additionally, philately can be a relaxing and rewarding way to unwind, offering young people a break from the digital world. By sharing the joy of collecting and discovering the stories behind each stamp, I believe we can spark curiosity and a passion for learning in younger generations.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
"Heartfelt Heist" is a thrilling, high-stakes challenge that blends physicality, strategy, and romance. The couples will work together to complete a series of tasks while also battling to "steal" each other’s hearts in a playful, competitive manner. The challenge is designed to test not only their physical abilities but also their emotional connections, trust, and communication within their relationship.
The villa is divided into two sections: the "Love Vault" and the "Obstacle Course." The Love Vault contains a series of love letters that represent key moments or milestones in the couples' journey, including things like their first kiss, a secret they’ve shared, or a meaningful conversation. Each couple must steal these love letters from each other’s vaults by completing a series of obstacles in the course while ensuring their letters remain safe.
The Heart Wall: A large, slippery wall that couples must climb together, each person assisting the other in getting over it. The challenge here is not only the physical strength required but the trust between the couple, as they will need to rely on one another’s support.
The Love Tunnel: A series of narrow tunnels covered in foam or soft materials, forcing couples to squeeze through as a team. It’s tight, sweaty, and disorienting, making it a test of communication and patience under pressure.
The Water Balloon Assault: Couples must pass a series of water balloons through obstacles and into a target basket while dodging water balloons thrown by the other couples. This part of the challenge is all about coordination, focus, and a sense of fun.
The Heart-Pounding Dash: A timed sprint from one end of the course to the other, where couples must grab their love letters (that they’ve stolen from other couples) and return them to their vault while avoiding getting caught by "Love Guards" (cast members dressed in heart-themed costumes). This is the final leg of the challenge and brings in an element of speed and strategy.
**Objective:**
The goal of the challenge is for each couple to collect as many love letters as possible from the other couples’ vaults while keeping their letters safe. The more love letters they steal, the higher their chances of winning. However, couples can only steal letters if they complete the obstacles, and they can only hold onto stolen letters for a limited time before they’re forced to return to their vault to defend them.
At the end of the challenge, after all couples have completed the obstacle course, there will be one final twist: a "Heartfelt Auction." Each couple is given the chance to bid for the love letters they’ve collected throughout the day. However, the auction isn’t just about how many letters they have—it’s about the emotional significance of each letter. The host will read out brief snippets of the letters, and couples will bid on them, using a mix of their collected letters and emotional declarations to win the most meaningful ones.
"Heartfelt Heist" is a challenge that blends romance with adventure, requiring both physical prowess and deep emotional connection. It’s a fun and competitive way for couples to work together and strengthen their bond while also facing obstacles that test their communication, trust, and teamwork. The inclusion of love letters ties in the theme of the show, focusing on the emotional and romantic journey each couple is on, while the auction twist adds a layer of strategy and emotional depth. The combination of these elements makes it an exciting, unpredictable challenge that fans would love to watch unfold.
Team USA Fan Scholarship
My favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA is Simone Biles. She is a true inspiration, not only because of her extraordinary athletic ability but also for her resilience and courage in the face of personal challenges. Biles has redefined gymnastics and continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the sport. Her commitment to excellence, her incredible work ethic, and her ability to overcome adversity make her a role model both in and out of the gym.
Beyond her impressive collection of Olympic medals, what stands out to me is her mental fortitude. Simone has been very open about her mental health struggles, which has helped break down stigmas and encouraged others to prioritize their well-being. Her decision to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to focus on her mental health was an act of strength, showing that true courage isn't just about performing under pressure but also knowing when to step back and take care of yourself.
Simone's impact extends far beyond her sport. She advocates for the safety and well-being of gymnasts, and her role in bringing attention to issues like sexual abuse within sports shows her dedication to improving the system for future generations of athletes. Watching her compete is not just about seeing someone execute flawless routines but about witnessing a leader who is changing the narrative around athleticism, mental health, and empowerment.
Bear Fan Scholarship
The perfect ending for *The Bear* would honor the emotional growth of its characters while providing a sense of closure and hope for the future. After the intense struggles and personal challenges they’ve faced, I envision a satisfying conclusion where the characters find balance in both their personal and professional lives, all while staying true to the grit and complexity that have defined the series.
For Carmy, the show’s central figure, I see him finally gaining a sense of peace, having learned to embrace the support of those around him. After opening his new restaurant—perhaps a collaboration with Sydney and Marcus, where they create a fusion of fine dining and home-cooked comfort—the narrative would reveal Carmy taking time to step back from the relentless pressure of the kitchen. He would find a balance between his passion for cooking and his mental health. His relationship with his late brother, Mikey, would come full circle, and in the end, Carmy would finally feel free from the weight of Mikey's legacy, having built something that reflects both his vision and Mikey’s influence. His closing scene would show him enjoying a quiet moment in his restaurant, surrounded by friends, family, and customers, acknowledging that he's made peace with the chaos and is looking forward to a future that doesn’t have to be perfect—just fulfilling.
Sydney, the driven sous-chef, would emerge as a leader in her own right, finally opening her restaurant, which would be successful due to her dedication and unique style. She would no longer be bogged down by self-doubt or overshadowed by Carmy’s leadership but would instead find confidence in her abilities and the strength of the community she’s built. Her growth would be marked by a recognition that she can be both ambitious and kind, staying true to the mentor role that Carmy had unknowingly played for her.
Marcus, with his natural talent and growing culinary skills, would have his redemption arc. I envision him being recognized for his innovation in baking, perhaps opening his pastry shop that becomes a key partner to Carmy and Sydney’s restaurant, symbolizing the full circle of their shared journey. He would find not just success but a deeper sense of pride in his craft, with his own family supporting his dream.
Richie, the troubled but loyal friend, would find his version of stability. Whether through pursuing a career outside of the kitchen or taking on a leadership role in the restaurant, Richie would transform from someone caught in cycles of anger and insecurity into someone who has found a role that brings him purpose, perhaps even helping the next generation of chefs.
The most satisfying part of the ending would be the sense of community and family that ties everything together. The closing scene could be a big family gathering in the restaurant—Carmy, Sydney, Marcus, Richie, and even the supportive characters like Tina and Ebra—all gathered together. They’d be celebrating not just their professional successes but their personal growth and the fact that they’ve survived the hardest parts of their lives by leaning on each other. In the end, it would feel like a long-awaited victory over their past struggles.
This ending would be satisfying because it allows each character to achieve their sense of fulfillment without diminishing their flaws or struggles. The perfect conclusion to *The Bear* would leave fans with a sense of closure but also hope for what lies ahead for the characters, resonating with the idea that life is messy, unpredictable, and worth living despite the challenges.
Sharon L. Smartt Memorial Scholarship
Pursuing higher education has been a critical step toward overcoming significant financial and personal challenges in my life. As a first-generation college student, I have faced both financial hurdles and personal obstacles that have made the path to higher education more difficult but also more meaningful. These challenges have fueled my determination to succeed and create a better future for myself and my community.
Financially, I have had to navigate the complexities of paying for my education without much external financial support. With limited family resources, I have had to rely on scholarships, student loans, and part-time work to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses. While I am grateful for these opportunities, the pressure of balancing work and study has often been overwhelming. At times, I have had to prioritize immediate financial needs over my academic goals, which has added stress to an already demanding academic environment. However, this experience has taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and resourcefulness. It has also made me deeply appreciate the opportunity to pursue my dreams despite the financial obstacles I face.
In addition to the financial challenges, I have also had to overcome personal obstacles that have shaped my educational journey. As someone who has faced the loss of close family members and the difficulties that come with navigating life in a single-parent household, I have often had to balance personal grief, family responsibilities, and my academic pursuits. These personal challenges have tested my resilience, but they have also given me a sense of purpose. I am motivated by the desire to make a positive impact in my community, particularly in healthcare, where I can use my experiences to relate to and support others who may be facing similar struggles.
One of the biggest personal challenges has been overcoming self-doubt. As a first-generation student, I often felt unsure of my place in higher education and questioned whether I was capable of achieving my goals. However, through perseverance and the support of mentors, I have been able to overcome these doubts and build my confidence. Each challenge I face serves as a reminder of my strength and my ability to rise above adversity.
Despite these difficulties, I remain committed to my educational and career goals. I know that completing my degree will not only provide me with the skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society but will also break the cycle of financial instability in my family. By pursuing a career in healthcare, I aim to give back to my community, using my experiences to support others in their journeys toward health and well-being.
In summary, the financial and personal challenges I face are significant, but they are not insurmountable. By pursuing higher education, I am working to overcome these obstacles and create a better future for myself and those around me. This scholarship will provide much-needed financial support, allowing me to focus on my studies and continue working toward my career aspirations in healthcare.
Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
When confronted with adversity, both physical and mental, I have taken several intentional steps to stay focused on my career aspirations. These steps are grounded in resilience, determination, and a commitment to personal growth, recognizing that obstacles are often growth opportunities.
First, I try to maintain a strong sense of perspective. In the face of physical or mental challenges, it can be easy to become consumed by the difficulty of the situation. However, I’ve learned to take a step back and remind myself of my long-term goals and the reasons behind my career aspirations. This helps me stay motivated and focused on the bigger picture rather than becoming discouraged by temporary setbacks. In my case, pursuing a career in nursing is deeply rooted in my desire to help others and make a meaningful impact on my community. When I face adversity, I remind myself of this purpose, which helps me stay resilient and push through difficult moments.
Second, I take a proactive approach to self-care. Physical and mental challenges often require me to be in tune with my well-being. Whether I am dealing with physical exhaustion from my studies or emotional stress, I’ve learned the importance of balancing work with rest, mindfulness, and support from those around me. Regular exercise, meditation, and seeking help from mentors or counselors have been key components of my ability to recharge and continue moving forward. Understanding that taking care of myself is essential to achieving my goals has helped me maintain the energy and mental clarity needed to keep striving toward my aspirations.
Another step I have taken is developing a mindset of adaptability. In the face of obstacles, I’ve learned to be flexible in how I approach my goals. For example, if I encounter challenges in my nursing program or experience setbacks in my academic performance, I view these as opportunities to reassess my methods, seek additional resources, or adjust my schedule. This adaptability allows me to stay on track, even if the path to my goals looks different than I originally envisioned.
Lastly, I rely on the support of my community, whether that be family, friends, or mentors. When faced with adversity, I don’t hesitate to reach out to those who can offer guidance, encouragement, and a fresh perspective. Their support has been instrumental in helping me stay grounded and focused on my career goals. Whether it's through offering practical advice or simply being a source of emotional strength, their involvement has made all the difference in pushing me forward.
In summary, when confronted with adversity, I continue to achieve my career aspirations by maintaining perspective, prioritizing self-care, adapting to challenges, and leaning on the support of others. Each challenge, whether physical or mental, is an opportunity to grow stronger, more focused, and more determined to achieve my long-term goals.

Essay on Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations (Book 4, Paragraph 3)
In this passage, Marcus Aurelius imparts wisdom on the impermanence of external possessions and circumstances, urging the reader to focus on the pursuit of things that cannot be taken away. At the core of this advice lies the Stoic philosophy that encourages emotional resilience and an unshakable peace of mind, regardless of external conditions. The underlying meaning of this text speaks to the fragility of life’s fleeting pleasures—wealth, status, and even relationships—that are vulnerable to change, loss, or misfortune. The Stoic ideal is not to reject or neglect these things but to recognize their impermanent nature and avoid letting them define one’s sense of worth or security.
Aurelius begins by warning against emotional attachment to anything that can be lost. The word “secure” here refers not to physical safety but to emotional reliance on external factors. The Stoic worldview suggests that the more we depend on things that can be taken from us—be they possessions, achievements, or even the love of others—the more prone we are to suffering. By placing our security in things that are beyond our control, we risk constant turbulence when these things inevitably change or disappear. The passage, therefore, serves as a reminder to focus on what can truly provide lasting contentment—virtue, wisdom, and self-control—qualities that are internal and independent of fortune's capriciousness.
Aurelius further emphasizes the importance of setting one's heart on imperishable things, those that cannot be undermined by external forces. This implies cultivating a sense of inner peace and strength that comes from understanding one's character and purpose. In Stoicism, virtue—such as courage, justice, and wisdom—is the only true good, as it is something that can neither be taken nor tarnished by outside events. For Aurelius, true happiness lies not in the fleeting pleasures of life but in the cultivation of an enduring, virtuous character. By focusing on imperishable things, one finds an unshakable foundation for happiness, one that cannot be disturbed by the inevitable changes of the external world.
Finally, Aurelius warns of the fear that arises from attaching ourselves to that which is vulnerable. If we base our happiness on wealth, relationships, or success, we live in a constant state of fear—fear of losing what we have, fear of change, and fear of the unknown. This fear creates a volatile emotional state, one that is constantly at the mercy of fortune. Aurelius encourages the reader to transcend this cycle of anxiety by focusing on what is permanent and beyond the reach of external forces: the cultivation of one’s virtue and the peace that comes with understanding the nature of the world.
In conclusion, this passage from Meditations encourages an understanding of the impermanence of external circumstances and the importance of focusing on internal, unchangeable sources of contentment. By relinquishing the need for security in things that can be lost and instead investing in virtue, one can find tranquility and resilience amidst the unpredictable tides of life. Through Aurelius’ Stoic perspective, we are reminded that the only true security lies within ourselves in the cultivation of character and wisdom.
In expanding on this passage from *Meditations*, it is important to recognize how Marcus Aurelius’s philosophy aligns with a broader Stoic perspective on human suffering and happiness. The Stoics, led by thinkers such as Epictetus and Seneca, believed that much of human suffering comes from our attachment to things beyond our control. Marcus Aurelius, as both a philosopher and a Roman emperor, had a profound understanding of how the pursuit of external success and wealth can lead to a never-ending cycle of desire and fear. By advising that one should set one's heart on imperishable things, he calls for a fundamental shift in focus, one that moves away from external circumstances and instead centers on developing inner virtues, which provide a stable foundation for peace and fulfillment.
This advice also suggests a deeper psychological dimension of human well-being. In modern terms, Aurelius is advocating for the cultivation of emotional intelligence—the ability to manage and regulate our responses to life’s challenges. In focusing on what is imperishable, one is not only avoiding the pitfalls of emotional distress but also developing a deep sense of inner peace that is not contingent on success or failure. This inner peace arises from recognizing that we are in control of our responses, regardless of external events, and that our well-being comes from within. Aurelius' teachings help to liberate us from the tyranny of external expectations and pressures that often define contemporary life.
Furthermore, the recognition of impermanence is a powerful tool for resilience. When we understand that nothing external is permanent, we become better equipped to face loss, disappointment, or failure. Whether it be a job, a relationship, or even our health, the inevitability of change is a constant in life. The ability to face these challenges with composure and understanding that we are not defined by these transient conditions is one of the great strengths of Stoic philosophy. In this sense, Aurelius offers a timeless strategy for mental and emotional fortitude—by accepting the impermanence of life, we can weather its storms with equanimity.
Moreover, Aurelius’ emphasis on imperishable things provides a pathway for ethical growth. By encouraging the cultivation of virtue, he highlights the importance of developing characteristics like wisdom, courage, and justice—qualities that are not only enduring but also essential for contributing to the greater good. These virtues allow one to engage with the world and its challenges in a meaningful way, whether in leadership, personal relationships, or broader societal contributions. The Stoic focus on living according to nature and reason implies that our purpose in life is not to accumulate possessions or status but to live ethically and in harmony with our values. This transcends the individual and invites a broader sense of responsibility to the community and the world.
In summary, Marcus Aurelius’ passage on impermanence and detachment from external sources of security reveals profound insights about how to live a fulfilled and resilient life. By shifting focus from things that can be lost to inner virtues that cannot be taken away, Aurelius provides a blueprint for achieving emotional peace, strength, and wisdom. The advice to set one’s heart on imperishable things encourages the cultivation of character, which leads not only to personal well-being but also to the ability to make a positive impact in the world. It is a call to embrace life’s inevitable changes with grace, confront adversity with inner strength, and invest in what truly endures: the development of a virtuous character. Through this mindset, Aurelius provides a timeless framework for thriving in a world that is always shifting, both within and without.
Tardus Beach Volleyball Scholarship
I decided to play beach volleyball in college because of my passion for the sport and the unique challenges it presents. Beach volleyball offers a different dynamic compared to indoor volleyball, requiring a high level of skill, teamwork, and individual responsibility. I love the feeling of being outside in nature while competing in a sport that tests my physical and mental limits. I also value the opportunity to build close relationships with teammates, as beach volleyball often requires a lot of communication and trust between players. It was important to me to find a sport that I could continue to pursue at the collegiate level while also staying active, competitive, and motivated to improve.
Additionally, playing beach volleyball in college allows me to further develop discipline, time management, and leadership skills, all of which are essential for my personal growth. Balancing academics with a competitive sport pushes me to manage my time effectively, stay organized, and work hard toward both my athletic and academic goals. The experiences I gain on the court help me build resilience, learn how to handle setbacks, and work collaboratively, which are all traits that I believe will serve me well in any career.
As for my career path after college, I plan to pursue a degree in nursing. The qualities of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication that I've honed through beach volleyball are directly transferable to my aspirations as a nurse. Nursing is a field that requires empathy, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well with others in high-pressure situations, much like the teamwork and adaptability required in sports. I’m drawn to nursing because I have a deep desire to help others and make a positive impact on people’s lives. I know that nursing will provide me with the opportunity to serve others in a meaningful way, using both my skills and my compassion.
In the future, I hope to combine my athletic discipline with the caring nature of nursing to provide excellent patient care, advocating for their health and well-being. I also aim to use my platform as an athlete to promote wellness and mental health awareness, encouraging others to take care of their bodies and minds. Overall, my college experience, both on the volleyball court and in the classroom, will be the foundation for my future career, helping me build a strong work ethic, develop leadership skills, and prepare to make a positive impact in the healthcare field.
Pushing Our Scholars Forward
I enrolled in my current nursing program because of my deep passion for healthcare and a desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. I’ve always been drawn to the medical field, and nursing, in particular, provides a perfect combination of hands-on care and the opportunity to directly impact patient well-being. This field allows me to merge my interest in science with my compassion for others, providing me with the tools to make a real difference in people’s health. I also chose nursing because it offers both intellectual challenges and emotional rewards, as each patient is unique and requires individualized care. The field is constantly evolving, and the prospect of being part of that growth is something that excites me.
The knowledge I gain from this program will allow me to contribute meaningfully to society by improving patient care and promoting health education. As a nurse, I’ll have the opportunity to advocate for those in need, ensure patients receive the best possible care, and educate others about the importance of health and wellness. I believe healthcare should be accessible to everyone, and through my work, I hope to contribute to breaking down barriers that prevent marginalized communities from receiving proper care. I also aim to provide emotional support to patients and their families during difficult times, understanding that compassion is as crucial as clinical knowledge.
Working while being a college student has impacted both my academic journey and personal growth in several ways. Balancing a job with my studies has taught me time management skills and the importance of discipline. It has helped me develop a strong work ethic, as I’ve had to juggle multiple responsibilities. While it’s challenging at times, this experience has made me more resourceful and efficient, teaching me how to prioritize tasks and manage stress effectively. Working has also given me real-world exposure to customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving, all of which are transferable skills that will be beneficial in my nursing career.
However, balancing work and school hasn’t been without its challenges. Sometimes, I find it difficult to maintain focus on my studies after long shifts at work, and the exhaustion can affect my ability to absorb information. Despite these obstacles, I’ve learned to persevere, adapt, and use these experiences as opportunities for growth. Working has reinforced my passion for my field and reminded me of the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving my goals.
Overall, my nursing program and work experience are both crucial to my development. The knowledge I gain through my studies will directly impact my ability to serve others, while my work experience has given me valuable life skills that will benefit me in both my professional and personal life. Through hard work and perseverance, I am determined to make a positive difference in society and the lives of my future patients.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I’m a fan of LeBron James not just because of his incredible basketball skills, but also because of the way he carries himself both on and off the court. LeBron is a true example of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. His ability to elevate his game year after year, even as he gets older, speaks to his commitment to improving and pushing his limits. He’s not just a dominant force in basketball; his versatility and basketball IQ are unparalleled. Whether it's scoring, assisting, rebounding, or playing defense, LeBron can do it all, and he’s been able to adapt his game as he’s aged to maintain his position as one of the best players in the league.
LeBron's leadership is also something that stands out. He’s consistently shown that he can inspire and elevate the teams he’s on. Whether he’s playing with seasoned veterans or younger players, he knows how to bring out the best in his teammates. This ability to lead by example and foster team chemistry is one of the reasons why I admire him so much.
As for whether LeBron is the greatest basketball player of all time (GOAT), it’s a tough question because there are so many factors to consider. I believe LeBron certainly deserves to be in the conversation. His longevity in the NBA, his consistency, and his ability to excel in nearly every aspect of the game make him one of the best. He’s also had a major impact on the league, both in terms of his on-court success and his influence as a businessman, philanthropist, and activist.
However, whether he is the greatest of all time can depend on personal preference and what people value most in a player. Some may argue for Michael Jordan due to his unmatched winning mentality and dominance in the 1990s, particularly his perfect 6-0 record in the NBA Finals. Others may prefer players like Kobe Bryant or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for different reasons. Ultimately, while LeBron may not have as many championships as Jordan, his overall contributions to the game and his sustained excellence over such a long period make him a strong contender for the title of GOAT.
I believe LeBron’s impact is significant in multiple ways—he’s changed the game in terms of player empowerment, social activism, and personal branding, which adds another layer to his greatness beyond just the basketball court. Whether or not he’s the GOAT is subjective, but there’s no question that LeBron James is one of the most influential and accomplished basketball players of all time.
Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Mental health plays a significant role in both my academic performance and personal life as I navigate the challenges of school. At times, I’ve found that anxiety and stress can negatively affect my ability to focus on my studies, manage my time effectively, and maintain motivation. The pressure of meeting deadlines, balancing coursework, and striving for excellence can sometimes feel overwhelming, and it’s easy for negative thoughts to creep in, making me doubt my abilities or feel defeated. This has, at times, led to feelings of burnout and self-doubt, which, in turn, have impacted my academic performance and ability to stay engaged with schoolwork.
However, I recognize the importance of prioritizing my mental health and have made efforts to take proactive steps toward managing my well-being. One of the most important strategies I’ve employed is establishing a routine that includes time for relaxation and self-care. I make it a point to schedule breaks throughout my day to step away from my academic work, whether it’s going for a walk, practicing deep breathing exercises, or spending time with friends and family. These moments of rest allow me to recharge and return to my studies with a clearer mind and better focus.
Additionally, I have learned the value of seeking help when needed. I’ve reached out to counselors and therapists in the past, and those conversations have provided me with the tools to manage my anxiety and stress. Talking openly about my struggles has not only helped me gain perspective but has also reinforced that it’s okay not to always have everything figured out. I’ve also found that having a strong support system of friends, family, and professors who understand my challenges has been vital in helping me maintain a positive mindset.
I also prioritize maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which has a direct impact on my mental health. Regular physical activity, such as swimming or taking yoga classes, helps reduce stress and boosts my mood. I also make sure to eat nutritious meals and get enough sleep, as these factors can significantly affect my mental state and cognitive performance.
By taking these steps, I’ve been able to improve my mental health and maintain a better balance in my life. This has allowed me to approach my studies with a clearer focus, overcome obstacles more effectively, and be more present in my personal life. I know that mental health will continue to be a crucial factor in my academic journey, and I’m committed to making it a priority. Recognizing that it’s okay to take breaks, seek support, and be gentle with myself during challenging times has not only helped me manage stress more effectively but has also taught me that mental well-being is just as important as academic success. With this understanding, I’m better equipped to continue pursuing my education while maintaining a healthy, balanced life.

Throughout my educational journey, I have faced significant adversity, both personally and academically, which has shaped my resilience and strengthened my commitment to pursuing a degree in STEM. One of the biggest challenges I have faced was failing two courses in a nursing program. This setback left me doubting my ability to continue on the path I had worked so hard to get on. However, instead of allowing this failure to define me, I used it as an opportunity to reflect on my weaknesses and grow stronger. I sought help from professors, worked harder to improve my understanding of the material, and found new strategies for managing my time and stress. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance, self-reflection, and resilience—qualities that are essential in the STEM field, where problem-solving and overcoming challenges are part of the daily process.
In addition to academic challenges, I also faced personal adversity with the tragic passing of my uncle in a car accident during the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. Not being able to attend his funeral was a deeply painful experience, but it also strengthened my faith and reinforced my belief in the importance of trust and hope in the face of hardship. This event inspired me to continue pushing forward in my studies, knowing that life is unpredictable, and I must make the most of the opportunities I have.
My passion for STEM, particularly nursing, is driven by my desire to help others and make a positive impact on the world. I am fascinated by the complexities of the human body and the ways science and technology can improve healthcare. I have always been driven by a desire to understand how things work and how I can apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems. Nursing, as a STEM field, allows me to combine my love for science with my deep commitment to serving others. By becoming a nurse, I hope to contribute to the healthcare field by providing compassionate care, supporting patients through their most vulnerable moments, and advocating for better healthcare systems.
Financially, pursuing higher education has been a challenge for me. As a first-generation college student, I am working hard to fund my education through part-time jobs and private loans. The financial burden of tuition, books, and living expenses often feels overwhelming, but I am determined to succeed. This scholarship would significantly ease my financial stress, allowing me to focus more on my studies and less on the financial constraints that come with pursuing a nursing degree. It would also help me pay back some of the private loans I have taken to finance my education, giving me more financial freedom to continue my studies without the added pressure.
This scholarship would not only provide financial relief but also serve as a reminder of the support I have in pursuing my dreams. With this support, I will be better positioned to continue my education, overcome future challenges, and achieve my goal of becoming a nurse, where I can use my knowledge and experiences to make a meaningful difference in the healthcare field and my community.

Exemplifying character, sportsmanship, and work ethic both in the water and in my community is something I strive for every day, whether I’m competing in swimming or engaging with those around me. These values have been integral to my growth as an athlete and as a person, shaping not only my approach to sports but also my relationships and contributions to my community.
In the water, character is about maintaining integrity, especially when facing challenges. As a swimmer, I’ve learned to push through tough practices and races, even when I’m tired or frustrated. Instead of giving up or cutting corners, I’ve learned to persevere, knowing that true success comes from hard work and resilience. I’ve also made it a point to celebrate the successes of my teammates, recognizing that we all have unique strengths and contribute to the overall success of the team. This mindset has helped me build strong relationships with my teammates and coaches, as it fosters a positive and supportive environment. I believe in being honest with myself, acknowledging my weaknesses, and continually working to improve in all aspects of swimming. Whether it's through technique or endurance, I dedicate myself to giving my best every time I step into the water.
Sportsmanship, for me, is about respect—for my competitors, coaches, and teammates. I believe in showing respect regardless of the outcome of a race. Whether I win or lose, I make it a priority to congratulate my competitors and acknowledge their efforts. In swimming, the focus is often on individual performance, but I understand the importance of being a team player and supporting others. Good sportsmanship, to me, means understanding that each person is on their journey and showing grace in both victory and defeat.
In my community, I apply these values by volunteering, helping others when they need support, and serving as a positive role model for younger athletes. I have volunteered at local events, helping to organize and mentor younger swimmers, and I always make it a point to encourage them, offering tips on improving technique or just providing moral support. I also participate in charity swims and fundraising events, using my athletic ability to contribute to causes that I care about. I aim to set a good example for others by showing kindness, integrity, and a willingness to work hard for causes greater than myself.
Ultimately, my character, sportsmanship, and work ethic in the water are shaped by a strong desire to always do my best and help others along the way. I believe that these qualities extend far beyond swimming, and I strive to live by them every day in my interactions with others, whether I’m in the pool or engaging with my community. These values are at the core of who I am and what I aim to contribute to both my sport and my broader community.

Throughout my life, I have always believed in the power of kindness to bring about meaningful change, and I have tried to consistently show kindness to those around me. One instance that stands out is when I volunteered at a local homeless shelter during a particularly difficult time in my life, balancing schoolwork and personal challenges.
At the shelter, I worked directly with individuals who had been through significant hardships, many of whom were experiencing homelessness for the first time. They were dealing with a variety of issues, from health concerns to a lack of family support. I saw firsthand the impact that a small act of kindness could have on someone’s day. One evening, I noticed a man sitting alone, looking discouraged, and I took a few moments to sit with him and chat. I didn’t offer solutions or try to fix his situation, but instead just listened to his story. He shared with me his struggles, his dreams, and his worries, and I simply acknowledged his pain and offered words of encouragement. That simple act of listening made him feel seen and heard, which, in turn, uplifted his spirit. The next time I saw him at the shelter, he greeted me with a smile and thanked me for that conversation, saying it had given him hope.
This experience reinforced my belief that kindness doesn’t always have to be grand gestures. Sometimes, the smallest acts, like listening or offering a moment of understanding, can have a profound effect on someone’s well-being. In this case, I didn’t solve any of his problems, but I provided a sense of connection that made him feel less isolated in his struggles. It taught me that kindness can be powerful because it validates a person’s humanity, especially during times when they might feel invisible or overlooked.
This instance has shaped the way I approach others in all areas of my life. I’ve continued to volunteer, always seeking to provide empathy and compassion. I have also carried this mindset into my academic and personal relationships, striving to be a supportive friend, peer, and colleague. In a busy world where people can often feel disconnected, I aim to make others feel valued and heard. Whether it's through lending an ear to someone who needs to talk, offering help to classmates who are struggling, or simply giving a word of encouragement when someone is feeling down, I try to be a source of positivity and comfort.
The impact of this pattern of kindness has not only benefited others but has also enriched my own life. It has taught me patience, humility, and the power of vulnerability. I have seen how one small act of kindness can create a ripple effect, where people feel inspired to do the same for others. It has fostered a sense of community and connection that I carry with me every day.
Looking ahead, I plan to carry this value with me into my nursing career. In healthcare, patients often face not only physical challenges but emotional ones as well. I believe that showing kindness can be just as powerful as any medical treatment in improving a patient’s overall well-being. Whether it’s taking the time to listen to a patient’s concerns, offering emotional support, or simply showing compassion in difficult moments, I know that small acts of kindness can go a long way in creating a healing environment.
In essence, kindness has shaped my perspective on life and the work I wish to do in the future. It’s a value that I will continue to nurture and share, knowing that it can bring comfort to others and create positive, lasting change. Through kindness, I hope to not only make a difference in the lives of those I interact with but also inspire others to pay it forward, creating a more compassionate and caring world.

Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue a degree in healthcare because of my deep desire to serve others and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. From a young age, I have been drawn to the idea of helping people in times of need, providing comfort, and offering solutions to health challenges. This passion for service, combined with my fascination with the human body and how it works, naturally led me to the healthcare field, where I can combine my interests in science and compassion.
One of the driving factors behind my decision to pursue healthcare is the personal experiences I’ve had with the healthcare system. I have seen firsthand the disparities in access to quality care, particularly in underserved communities. Many people face challenges in accessing even basic health services, and I want to be a part of the solution to these inequities. Whether it’s advocating for better resources, offering care where it’s needed most, or educating people on preventive health, I hope to be a healthcare provider who not only treats the sick but also works toward breaking down the barriers that prevent people from receiving the care they deserve.
As a woman in healthcare, I aim to contribute by fostering an inclusive and compassionate environment. Throughout history, women have played pivotal roles in the healthcare industry, yet the field has often been dominated by male perspectives, especially in leadership positions. I want to be part of the shift toward a more diverse and equitable healthcare system where women’s voices are not only heard but are integral to decision-making and patient care. I believe that women bring unique perspectives to healthcare—empathy, nurturing, and the ability to build strong relationships with patients. I plan to use these qualities to create an environment where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health.
Moreover, I hope to be a role model for other young women considering careers in healthcare. There are still many barriers and biases women face in the workplace, particularly in fields like medicine and nursing, and I want to show that women can excel in these fields and be leaders. I hope to encourage others to pursue their passions in healthcare, whether it be as nurses, doctors, researchers, or administrators. By demonstrating resilience, empathy, and leadership, I want to help create a healthcare system that reflects the diversity and strength of the communities it serves.
In the future, I aspire to work in healthcare not just as a practitioner but also as an advocate for systemic change—improving healthcare access, patient outcomes, and the overall well-being of the population. My ultimate goal is to make healthcare more inclusive, accessible, and compassionate for everyone, especially women and other marginalized groups, ensuring that all individuals receive the care and respect they deserve.

One of the most significant things I hope to "build" in my future is a career that centers around service, empathy, and community health. As I pursue my nursing degree, I am not just building a career—I am building a foundation for positive change. My goal is to create a lasting impact by providing compassionate care to underserved communities, advocating for health equity, and empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being. I believe that a healthcare career rooted in service can not only transform the lives of patients but also strengthen entire communities.
In practical terms, I plan to build this future by continuing to pursue a rigorous academic path and gaining hands-on experience through volunteer work and internships. Through these opportunities, I aim to learn how healthcare can be more accessible, particularly for those who may not have the resources or support they need. I am also committed to fostering strong relationships with my colleagues, mentors, and patients, as I believe that trust, communication, and collaboration are essential in any healthcare setting.
On a personal level, I am working to build a resilient and balanced mindset. The challenges I’ve faced in my life, such as overcoming academic setbacks and dealing with personal loss, have taught me the importance of perseverance and adaptability. These experiences have inspired me to embrace a growth mindset, always seeking ways to improve and be more effective in my work. By building this strength and emotional resilience, I will be better equipped to face the inevitable challenges of healthcare and provide the best care possible.
The impact of building this future goes beyond just my success—it extends to the people I serve. By becoming a compassionate, knowledgeable healthcare provider, I hope to break down barriers to healthcare and create a more equitable system for those in need. The positive impact I aim to have on my community includes not only providing care but also advocating for better healthcare policies and supporting local health initiatives that improve the quality of life for underserved populations.
In the long run, I see myself as part of a broader movement to make healthcare more inclusive, accessible, and compassionate. This "building" process is not just about me but about creating a system that values every person’s health and dignity. Through my commitment to nursing and service, I hope to inspire others to join in the effort to build healthier, more connected communities.

Adversity has been a recurring theme in my life, shaping who I am and how I view challenges. One of the most profound moments of adversity I faced was during my journey to pursue a nursing career. While enrolled in a rigorous nursing program, I failed two courses. This setback was devastating, leaving me questioning my abilities and my future in the field. It was a moment of self-doubt and frustration, but it also became a turning point in my life.
The initial shock of failure was overwhelming. I had poured my heart and energy into my studies, and to fall short felt like a personal failure. However, after some reflection, I realized that setbacks do not define us—how we respond to them does. With renewed determination, I sought guidance from mentors and academic advisors, reevaluated my study habits, and developed new strategies to balance the demands of nursing school with my well-being.
Another significant adversity I faced was the loss of my uncle during the COVID-19 pandemic. He died in a tragic car accident in Vietnam, and due to travel restrictions, I was unable to attend his funeral. The grief of losing a loved one and the helplessness of being unable to say goodbye weighed heavily on me. It was during this time that I leaned on my faith, trusting that God had a plan even amid sorrow. This experience deepened my empathy for others experiencing loss and reinforced my desire to provide care and comfort as a nurse.
Overcoming these challenges has shaped me into a more resilient and compassionate person. I’ve learned to embrace failure as a stepping stone to growth and to find strength in moments of grief and uncertainty. These experiences have also taught me the importance of seeking help and building a support system, as no one can navigate adversity alone.
If I were to offer advice to someone facing similar circumstances, it would be this: don’t be afraid to start again. Failure is not the end of the road but an opportunity to recalibrate and try again with greater wisdom. Allow yourself to grieve your losses, but also find ways to channel that pain into something meaningful. Trust in your resilience and remember that every setback carries the potential for growth and transformation.
Today, I see adversity not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to learn and grow. These experiences have not only prepared me for the challenges of a nursing career but have also inspired me to help others navigate their journeys through life’s trials. Adversity has shaped my character and fueled my commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

Growing up in a single-parent household shaped me in profound ways, instilling resilience, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. My mother worked tirelessly to provide for our family, often juggling multiple jobs to ensure we had what we needed. Watching her navigate challenges with grace taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of building a life that reflects both hard work and care for others.
Living with limited resources meant that every decision mattered, and I learned to make the most of what I had. At the same time, I experienced firsthand how difficult it can be for families to access opportunities, support, and resources. These experiences have motivated me to dedicate my future to helping others navigate and overcome obstacles in their own lives, just as my mother did for me.
While I don’t yet have a specific career path set in stone, I know that my talents and passion lie in serving others and making a positive difference. Whether through healthcare, education, or community outreach, I envision a future where I can use my skills to address inequalities and create pathways for others to succeed.
One of the ways I hope to contribute is by empowering young people from similar backgrounds to believe in their potential and pursue their goals. Growing up in a single-parent household, I often felt the weight of expectations and limitations. I want to be a source of encouragement and support for others facing similar circumstances, showing them that their circumstances do not define their future.
At the heart of my vision is the desire to foster hope and opportunity. I believe that even small acts of kindness and service can create ripples of positive change. Whether it’s mentoring a struggling student, volunteering at a local shelter, or working to address systemic issues in underserved communities, I am committed to using my talents to uplift others.
In the future, I see myself as someone who not only achieves personal success but also pays it forward. My experiences have taught me that resilience and compassion are powerful tools for building a better world. By staying grounded in these values, I hope to create a legacy of service and empowerment that reflects the lessons I’ve learned from my family and life experiences. As well as be able to be financially stable to help provide and give back to my family, who has sacrificed everything for me.

Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of my hometown, I developed a deep appreciation for landscapes and their ability to transform not just the environment but the people within it. Whether it was a carefully cultivated garden or a wild, untamed park, I saw how landscapes could bring peace, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. This love for nature has grown into a passion for the landscape industry, where I aspire to make a meaningful difference by creating spaces that promote environmental sustainability and enhance the well-being of communities.
My interest in this field is rooted in the belief that landscapes are more than aesthetics; they are vital to the health of our ecosystems and our society. By pursuing a career in the landscape industry, I aim to combine creativity with practicality to design and maintain spaces that harmonize with nature. From implementing eco-friendly practices to selecting native plants that support local biodiversity, I am committed to fostering sustainable landscapes that leave a positive and lasting impact.
One of my goals is to address the growing challenges of urbanization by creating green spaces that not only beautify cities but also provide environmental and social benefits. Urban areas often lack access to nature, which can negatively affect mental health and community cohesion. I want to design projects that integrate green infrastructure, such as community gardens, rain gardens, and green roofs, to improve air quality, reduce urban heat islands, and offer restorative spaces for people to connect with nature.
To prepare for this career, I have immersed myself in opportunities to learn and grow. I’ve taken courses in environmental science and sustainability and participated in volunteer projects focused on habitat restoration and community gardening. These experiences have provided me with a foundation of knowledge and hands-on skills that I plan to build upon through further education and professional development.
What excites me most about the landscape industry is its potential to address global challenges like climate change while making a tangible difference at the local level. I am particularly passionate about educating others on the importance of sustainable landscaping and how small changes can have a big impact. By promoting environmentally responsible practices, I hope to inspire others to view landscapes as a powerful tool for positive change.
Ultimately, I see the landscape industry as a field where creativity meets responsibility, where every design choice can contribute to a healthier planet and happier communities. With dedication, education, and a deep respect for nature, I am committed to making a lasting impact in this dynamic and essential industry.

While the journey has been challenging, it has also been rewarding. Each obstacle has strengthened my resolve and shaped me into a more determined and compassionate individual. Future Leaders Scholarship
One of the most significant moments in my academic journey where I demonstrated leadership occurred during my volunteer work at a local shelter, where I spearheaded a health awareness initiative. As someone pursuing nursing, I was eager to bridge the gap between underserved individuals and essential health education. This project not only required leadership skills but also adaptability, communication, and perseverance to overcome numerous challenges.
The initiative began when I noticed that many shelter residents lacked access to basic health knowledge, which often exacerbated existing conditions. I approached the shelter staff with the idea of organizing a series of workshops on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and preventive care. Gaining approval was the first challenge, as I needed to present a clear plan and demonstrate the program's value. I carefully researched the topics, outlined objectives, and highlighted how the workshops could improve the well-being of the residents. My preparation paid off, and I received enthusiastic support to move forward.
Once the project was greenlit, I faced logistical challenges. Coordinating with the shelter staff, scheduling workshops, and finding resources within a limited budget required creative problem-solving. To address this, I reached out to local organizations and healthcare professionals, securing donations of supplies and enlisting volunteer speakers. Collaborating with others taught me the importance of building relationships and leveraging community resources to achieve a common goal.
The workshops themselves presented another layer of complexity. Many residents were hesitant to participate, either due to a lack of trust or feelings of embarrassment. Recognizing this, I focused on creating a welcoming, judgment-free environment. I made an effort to connect personally with attendees, actively listening to their concerns and tailoring the content to their specific needs. This approach not only increased attendance but also fostered meaningful engagement during the sessions.
The impact of this initiative was both immediate and lasting. Participants reported feeling more confident in managing their health and expressed gratitude for the practical tools and knowledge they gained. Beyond the tangible outcomes, I noticed a shift in morale—residents felt seen, valued, and empowered to take proactive steps in their lives. For me, this experience underscored the power of leadership to inspire change, even in the face of adversity.
Looking forward, I plan to apply the leadership skills I developed during this initiative to my career as a nurse. Nursing is inherently a leadership role, requiring the ability to make critical decisions, advocate for patients, and collaborate with diverse teams. The challenges I faced at the shelter prepared me to navigate similar obstacles in healthcare settings, where resource limitations, communication barriers, and patient trust are common hurdles.
In addition to bedside care, I aspire to take on roles in public health, where I can lead community-based programs that address systemic health disparities. The strategies I employed—such as building partnerships, engaging stakeholders, and fostering inclusivity—will be instrumental in designing initiatives that make a positive and lasting impact.
Ultimately, I view leadership as a responsibility to uplift others and create opportunities for growth and empowerment. Whether in a hospital, clinic, or community setting, I am committed to using my leadership skills to drive change and improve the lives of those I serve.

Nursing is not just a career for me; it is a calling that reflects my deepest values of compassion, service, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My desire to pursue a nursing degree stems from a combination of personal experiences, my commitment to addressing disparities in healthcare, and my aspiration to empower individuals and communities to achieve better health outcomes.
Growing up in an immigrant and low-income household, I witnessed the challenges many families face in accessing quality healthcare. These experiences opened my eyes to the importance of nurses as advocates and caregivers who play a critical role in bridging gaps in healthcare delivery. Nurses are often the first point of contact for patients, providing not only medical care but also emotional support and guidance. This holistic approach to patient care resonates deeply with me, inspiring my decision to pursue a nursing degree.
My journey toward nursing has also been shaped by personal challenges that reinforced my resilience and commitment to service. A particularly transformative experience was the loss of my uncle during the COVID-19 pandemic. He passed away in a tragic car accident in Vietnam, and travel restrictions prevented me from attending his funeral. While this was an incredibly difficult time, it taught me to rely on my faith and find purpose in supporting others through loss and hardship. This experience deepened my empathy and strengthened my resolve to provide compassionate care to patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments.
As a nurse, I hope to contribute to my community in ways that extend beyond individual patient care. My goal is to specialize in community health nursing, where I can address systemic health disparities and promote preventive care. I am particularly passionate about working with underserved populations, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and education they need to live healthier lives. By serving as an advocate for these communities, I can help empower individuals to take charge of their health and break the cycle of inequality.
Additionally, I aspire to be a mentor and role model for others in my community, especially for those who may be hesitant to pursue higher education or careers in healthcare. As a first-generation college student, I understand the challenges of navigating unfamiliar systems and the importance of having a support network. I want to use my journey to inspire others to persevere and show them that their dreams are attainable, no matter their circumstances.
Education is a vital step in achieving my goals. A nursing degree will provide me with the clinical expertise and leadership skills necessary to excel in this demanding yet rewarding field. Beyond the technical knowledge, nursing education will also help me cultivate the empathy, cultural competence, and critical thinking needed to provide patient-centered care in diverse settings.
Ultimately, I want to be a nurse who not only heals but also uplifts and empowers. Whether through direct patient care, community outreach programs, or health education initiatives, I am committed to making a positive and lasting impact. Nursing is more than a profession to me—it is a way to honor the values of compassion, resilience, and service that have guided my journey thus far.
By pursuing a nursing degree, I am taking a significant step toward fulfilling my purpose: to serve others, advocate for health equity, and create a ripple effect of positive change in the lives of individuals and communities alike.

Life’s challenges have a way of shaping us in profound and unexpected ways. For me, one of the most meaningful failures was during my nursing program when I failed two courses and was unable to progress. This moment shook my confidence and led me to question my abilities and my future in nursing. However, it also became a turning point in my life, teaching me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of faith in overcoming obstacles.
Failing those courses felt devastating at first. I had poured my heart and effort into my studies, and facing this setback made me doubt my capability to continue in the demanding field of nursing. Yet, after reflecting on this experience, I realized that failure is not the end but an opportunity to grow and learn. I evaluated my study habits, sought advice from mentors, and adjusted my approach to balance academic rigor with self-care.
This failure taught me to embrace vulnerability and view challenges as stepping stones rather than roadblocks. It reignited my passion for nursing by reminding me why I chose this path in the first place: to serve others, particularly those in vulnerable and underserved communities. I successfully applied to another nursing program, determined to approach it with renewed focus and a deeper sense of purpose.
One of my most meaningful achievements is how I transformed this setback into motivation to excel. I’ve since dedicated myself to volunteer work, serving at local shelters and healthcare outreach programs to better understand the communities I hope to impact as a nurse. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and inspired me to advocate for patients who face barriers due to socioeconomic or cultural factors.
This journey has fueled my desire to make a difference not only in the lives of patients but also within the healthcare system itself. I aim to specialize in community health nursing, where I can address disparities and promote preventive care. My experiences with failure have prepared me for the challenges ahead, teaching me perseverance and the value of approaching every situation with empathy and determination.
Ultimately, my failures and achievements have shaped me into a stronger, more compassionate individual. They remind me that growth often stems from adversity and that every setback is an opportunity to rise stronger, be better equipped to pursue my goals and make a meaningful impact.

My name is Hong Dang and my first language is Vietnamese Growing up in a bilingual environment has shaped my identity and instilled in me resilience, adaptability, and a global perspective. As someone whose first language isn’t English, I’ve faced unique challenges, but these experiences have also equipped me with invaluable skills that I carry into my academic journey and future career.
One of the most significant challenges I faced was navigating my education in a language that wasn’t my own. I remember the early days in school when understanding classroom instructions or completing assignments felt overwhelming. I often relied on a dictionary to translate words, sometimes missing the nuances of their meanings. However, these challenges also taught me determination and problem-solving skills. Over time, I developed strategies to bridge the language gap, such as dedicating extra time to reading and writing in English and seeking help from teachers and peers.
Another unique aspect of being bilingual was acting as a translator for my family. Whether helping my parents with official documents, accompanying them to appointments, or assisting with daily tasks that required English, I became their bridge to a world that often felt inaccessible. While this responsibility was sometimes daunting, it also gave me a sense of pride and purpose. It deepened my connection to my family and taught me how to communicate effectively, a skill that will serve me in any professional setting.
Despite the challenges, being bilingual has been a tremendous asset. It has given me a broader understanding of different cultures and the ability to see the world through multiple lenses. For instance, my first language uniquely expresses emotions and values, which has enriched my communication and relationships. It has also fostered empathy, as I’ve experienced firsthand what it feels like to navigate a world where you aren’t fluent in the dominant language.
I plan to use my multilingual skills to make a difference in my community and the world. I am pursuing a nursing degree, with aspirations of working in underserved communities where language barriers often limit access to healthcare. By being able to communicate in multiple languages, I can help bridge these gaps, ensuring that patients feel understood and cared for. I also hope to advocate for more inclusive healthcare practices that account for cultural and linguistic diversity.
Being bilingual is more than a skill; it is a testament to adaptability, perseverance, and a commitment to connecting with others. While it has posed challenges, it has also been a source of strength and opportunity. As I continue my journey in higher education, I am grateful for how my linguistic background has prepared me to succeed and make a meaningful impact in the world.

Choosing to pursue higher education as a first-generation student is more than a personal aspiration—it is a declaration of hope and determination to forge a new path for my family and myself. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I witnessed firsthand the struggles and sacrifices required to make ends meet. These experiences shaped my understanding of the transformative power of education and motivated me to seek opportunities that could break the cycle of hardship while empowering me to give back to my community.
Higher education represents a gateway to achieving my goals and fulfilling my calling as a nurse. My passion for nursing stems from a deep desire to serve others, especially those in underserved communities. I realized early on that a college education would provide the skills, knowledge, and credentials necessary to make a lasting impact in this field. Moreover, pursuing higher education as the first in my family to do so allows me to inspire those around me, demonstrating that perseverance and dedication can open doors to possibilities that once seemed out of reach.
Preparing for college as a first-generation student has been a journey filled with challenges but also growth and resilience. Without a roadmap from family members who had walked this path before, I had to learn to navigate the complexities of higher education on my own. I sought guidance from mentors, teachers, and counselors who provided invaluable advice on everything from financial aid applications to academic preparation. These connections became a support system that helped me stay focused and motivated.
In addition to seeking mentorship, I took proactive steps to ensure I was academically and emotionally ready for college. I worked diligently to maintain strong grades while balancing extracurricular activities that helped me develop essential time management and leadership skills. Volunteering at local shelters and participating in community outreach initiatives not only reinforced my passion for service but also provided hands-on experiences that deepened my understanding of the role I want to play in healthcare.
One of the most significant ways I prepared for this journey was by embracing resilience. As a first-generation student, there were moments when self-doubt crept in, and I questioned whether I was capable of succeeding in a system that often felt overwhelming. However, I turned to my faith and the values instilled in me by my family to push through. The hardships my family endured became a source of motivation, reminding me of why I started this journey and the importance of perseverance.
As I embark on this new chapter, I am fueled by the knowledge that my pursuit of higher education extends beyond personal achievement. It is an opportunity to uplift my family, inspire others in my community, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. I am committed to using my education to address disparities in healthcare and provide compassionate care to those in need.
Being a first-generation student comes with unique challenges, but it also comes with the privilege of being a trailblazer. This journey has taught me the value of hard work, resourcefulness, and community support. I am ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of higher education, knowing that it is the key to unlocking a brighter future—for myself, my family, and the many lives I hope to impact through my chosen career.

My Calling to Nursing: A Passion for Healing and Empowerment
I chose nursing as my field of interest because it combines my desire to help others with my fascination for science, healthcare, and human connection. From a young age, I was drawn to the idea of making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Nursing offers a unique opportunity to not only provide physical care but also offer emotional support and compassion during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
My personal experiences have deeply shaped my decision to pursue nursing. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I witnessed the challenges of accessing healthcare and the profound impact it can have on individuals and families. These experiences inspired me to be a part of the solution by advocating for equitable healthcare and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can receive the care they deserve.
A pivotal moment in my life further solidified my decision. During the COVID pandemic, my uncle passed away in a tragic car accident in Vietnam. Unable to attend his funeral due to travel restrictions, I felt helpless in my grief. This loss gave me a renewed sense of purpose as I realized how vital it is to provide support to those enduring loss and hardship. It fueled my passion for nursing, as I hope to be a source of comfort and strength for patients and their families during difficult times.
My professional goal is to specialize in community health nursing, where I can address systemic disparities in healthcare access and promote wellness among underserved populations. I envision myself working in clinics, schools, or outreach programs, providing preventative care and education to empower individuals to take charge of their health. I also aspire to participate in global health initiatives, bringing care to areas with limited resources and learning from diverse cultures to enhance my practice.
Currently, I am actively working toward these goals through my education and volunteer work. I am pursuing a nursing degree while dedicating time to serving at local shelters and outreach programs. These experiences not only allow me to refine my clinical skills but also deepen my understanding of the diverse challenges people face. They have reinforced my belief in the transformative power of empathy and human connection in healthcare.
The resilience and perseverance I have cultivated through personal challenges have prepared me to thrive in this demanding yet rewarding field. Nursing aligns perfectly with my values, as it allows me to integrate compassion, service, and a commitment to lifelong learning into my career.

A Tribute to My Uncle: Loss, Faith, and Strength
During the COVID pandemic, my family experienced an unimaginable tragedy. My uncle, a beloved and respected figure in our lives, passed away in a car accident in Vietnam. His death was sudden and devastating, leaving a void that words could not fill. Adding to the heartbreak, I was unable to attend his funeral due to travel restrictions. This distance made the loss feel even more profound, as I couldn’t grieve alongside my family or bid him a proper goodbye.
My uncle was more than a family member—he was a source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. He embodied resilience and generosity, often going out of his way to help others. He shared stories of his struggles and triumphs, which taught me about the importance of perseverance and maintaining hope in difficult times. Losing him felt like losing a part of the foundation that supported me.
At first, I struggled to come to terms with the loss. The inability to be present during such a pivotal moment added a layer of guilt and helplessness. However, amid this grief, I turned to my faith for comfort and understanding. I found solace in prayer and scripture, particularly in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we receive from God.”
This verse became a guiding light, reminding me that while I could not change the circumstances, I could honor my uncle’s legacy by embodying the values he cherished: resilience, kindness, and selflessness. His life inspired me to pursue my nursing career with even greater determination. His memory fuels my desire to help others through moments of loss and uncertainty, just as he helped so many during his life.
The experience of losing my uncle has shaped my perspective on life and my sense of purpose. It deepened my empathy and strengthened my resolve to make a difference. It also taught me the importance of cherishing time with loved ones and approaching every opportunity with gratitude and intention.
As I continue on my journey, I carry my uncle’s legacy with me. His love for our family and his unwavering strength inspire me to persevere through challenges and strive to create a positive impact. Whether through my nursing career or my interactions with others, I aim to reflect the compassion and resilience he exemplified.
Though the pain of his absence remains, my faith has turned this loss into a source of motivation and hope. My uncle’s life and untimely passing remind me that even in moments of grief, there is an opportunity to grow, to love more deeply, and to honor those we’ve lost by living with purpose and faith.

Failing two courses in my nursing program was one of the most challenging experiences of my life. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to become a nurse—a profession that blends my passion for helping others with my drive to make a positive impact. When I failed those courses, it felt as if my dreams had come to a halt. I questioned my abilities and doubted whether I would ever get another opportunity to pursue my calling.
As I grappled with this setback, another heartbreak struck my family. During the COVID pandemic, my uncle passed away in a tragic car accident in Vietnam. Due to travel restrictions, I was unable to attend his funeral or be there to support my family in person. The inability to say goodbye and properly grieve with my loved ones added another layer of pain to an already difficult time.
During these trials, I turned to my faith as my source of strength and hope. I spent countless hours in prayer, seeking guidance, comfort, and a sense of purpose in the face of what felt like insurmountable challenges. The words of Isaiah 41:10 became my anchor: *“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”* This verse reminded me that even in my darkest moments, I was not alone.
Faith helped me see failure not as the end but as an opportunity for growth. I began to reevaluate my approach to nursing school, seeking feedback from my instructors to understand how I could improve. I also adjusted my study habits, adopting new strategies to ensure I could succeed if given another chance. At the same time, I leaned on my faith to navigate my grief. Though I couldn’t be present at my uncle’s funeral, I found peace in trusting that his legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom would live on through our family.
The journey was far from easy, but through faith and perseverance, I found the courage to apply to another nursing program. The waiting period was nerve-wracking, but I held onto Jeremiah 29:11: *“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”* This verse reassured me that God’s plans were greater than my immediate circumstances.
When I was accepted into a new program, it felt like a profound affirmation of God’s faithfulness and the resilience He had cultivated within me. This experience taught me invaluable lessons about humility, perseverance, and the power of trusting in God’s timing.
As I move forward, I carry these lessons with me. The challenges I have faced have deepened my empathy and strengthened my resolve to make a difference in the world. My experiences with failure and loss remind me that life’s obstacles, no matter how painful, can become stepping stones for growth and transformation.
Today, as I pursue my nursing career, I am more determined than ever to serve others with compassion and dedication. Whether providing care for patients or supporting families through their moments of grief and uncertainty, I aim to reflect on the strength, hope, and faith that have guided me through my journey. In honoring my uncle’s memory and trusting in God’s plan, I am committed to building a life that uplifts others and glorifies Him.

### Overcoming Challenges and Inspiring Change
Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of community. Watching my parent work tirelessly to provide for our family inspired me to approach challenges with determination and a belief in the power of perseverance. While financial struggles meant fewer resources, they also instilled in me a drive to create opportunities for myself and others.
Adversity shaped my perspective on life and my aspirations. I developed a passion for service, particularly in addressing systemic inequities that prevent people from thriving. These experiences have fueled my commitment to pursuing a nursing career, where I can provide compassionate care and advocate for vulnerable populations. My ultimate goal is to use my education and skills to reduce healthcare disparities, particularly for underserved communities.
To turn these aspirations into reality, I actively engage in volunteer work and education. I assist at local shelters, providing basic health services and emotional support to individuals experiencing homelessness. These experiences strengthen my ability to empathize and adapt, qualities essential for a career in nursing. At the same time, I dedicate myself to academic excellence, understanding that my education is the foundation for achieving my goals.
The challenges I’ve faced have taught me that perseverance is not just about overcoming obstacles—it’s about using those experiences to uplift others. I hope to inspire change by creating pathways for health and wellness while empowering individuals to lead better lives. My journey has been shaped by challenges, but it is defined by hope, determination, and a commitment to making a positive impact on my community and the world.

Growing up in an immigrant household, I witnessed my parents’ struggles as they worked long hours in low-paying jobs to ensure my siblings and I could thrive in a foreign country. Their sacrifices taught me the importance of selflessness and helping others. As I matured, I realized my purpose was rooted in empowering others to reach their potential—just as my parents worked to create opportunities for me.
My passion for helping others began in high school when I volunteered at a local community center. Many of the children I tutored faced similar struggles—language barriers and financial hardships. By mentoring immigrant students, I saw firsthand how small acts of guidance could help them build confidence and overcome challenges. It wasn’t just about improving grades; it was about empowering them to believe in their abilities and push past their obstacles.
Throughout my undergraduate years, I actively sought opportunities to help others, realizing that volunteering was not just a hobby but my calling. I worked with organizations supporting underserved communities, especially immigrants and first-generation college students. As a first-generation student myself, I understood the challenges of navigating education without guidance, so I became involved in mentorship programs, college readiness workshops, and scholarships. I mentored high school students, helping with SAT prep and the application process, aiming to inspire confidence in their abilities and help them achieve their goals.
I also volunteered in healthcare, where I saw the powerful impact of selflessness and compassion. At a local hospital, I assisted with patient intake and supported families facing language barriers and financial struggles. I learned that even small acts of kindness—explaining procedures, offering emotional support, or just listening—could make a significant difference, especially for those who felt vulnerable. These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of empathy and service to help others feel seen and valued.
What I have learned through these experiences is that helping others is not just about providing resources or solving immediate problems—it’s about making people feel empowered to achieve their dreams and unlock their potential. Through volunteering, I’ve developed skills in communication, leadership, and empathy. I’ve learned how to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, how to listen to their needs, and how to guide them in ways that help them become their best selves. Whether I’m tutoring students, mentoring peers, or supporting patients in a healthcare setting, I approach every opportunity with the mindset of service, believing that by helping others succeed, I am contributing to a more compassionate and just society.
In the future, I hope to continue developing my skills in service and leadership, particularly through a healthcare career. I’m passionate about becoming a nurse because I believe it offers the perfect intersection of helping others at their most vulnerable and advocating for those who may not have a voice in the system. As I pursue this path, I know that the values of selflessness and service that I’ve cultivated throughout my life will continue to guide me, enabling me to make a lasting, positive impact in the lives of others.
In conclusion, helping others has not only become my purpose it has also become my passion. It is a core part of who I am and the impact I strive to have on the world. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, or pursuing a career in healthcare, I am committed to continuing to help others achieve their full potential, just as others have helped me.

As a little girl, I watched my parents struggle to communicate with doctors, landlords, and store clerks. My mother, who speaks limited English, would carefully piece together broken sentences, and I could see the frustration in her eyes when her words weren’t understood. This experience made me determined to step in as a bridge for my family. As I pursue my dream of becoming a nurse, I see it not only as a career but also as a way to make my family proud. Being the first in my family to attend college, I’ve transformed our struggles into a source of strength, both for my family and my community.
As a child of Asian immigrant parents, I witnessed their struggles with language barriers and limited education. My father worked long hours in construction, and my mother held low-paying jobs, sacrificing their dreams for a better life for us. I often became their translator, helping with tasks like calling utility companies, translating school letters, and navigating the healthcare system. While they couldn’t offer academic guidance, they emphasized the importance of education as the key to breaking the cycle of hardship.
Being raised in an environment where education was both a privilege and a challenge shaped my beliefs about perseverance and the power of knowledge. It taught me the value of empathy as I witnessed my parents’ struggles to navigate a world that seemed indifferent to their efforts. They worked tirelessly to provide for me, often sacrificing their own needs so that I could have opportunities they never had. Their sacrifices motivated me to work hard in school, knowing that I was not just working for myself but for them, too.
The decision to become a nurse is deeply personal. Growing up in an immigrant family, I saw how health disparities disproportionately affect underserved communities, especially those who, like my parents, cannot easily access medical care due to language barriers or financial hardship. My dream is to become a nurse who can not only provide high-quality care but also advocate for patients who might feel invisible or misunderstood, just as my parents sometimes felt. By becoming a healthcare professional, I want to use my skills and understanding of cultural differences to create a more diverse and empathetic medical field.
In addition to my clinical ambitions, I am passionate about mentoring students from low-income, immigrant backgrounds. Through volunteering at local community centers, I’ve already started tutoring students and providing guidance for those considering careers in healthcare. Many of them face the same struggles I did—uncertainty about how to navigate the educational system and a lack of access to resources. I want to be a source of support and inspiration for these students, showing them that despite the obstacles, education is a tool that can change the trajectory of their lives.
The adversity I’ve faced has deeply influenced my relationships with others and the way I view my place in the world. It has strengthened my resolve to make a lasting impact in my community. By becoming a nurse and advocating for diversity in healthcare, I hope to ensure that future generations of children from immigrant backgrounds will not have to struggle the way my parents did.
In conclusion, my journey as a first-generation college student is about more than just achieving my dreams—it is about honoring my parents' sacrifices and creating a better future for others in my community.

The death of a close family member or loved one is one of the most difficult experiences of life. It can leave us feeling overwhelmed, lonely and lost. It can also be a source of motivation and strength. When I lost my mother, it was devastating. But it also made me focus on what matters most in my life.
I realized that life is short and fragile and that achieving my goals is important. I understood that I had to make the most of every opportunity and that I had to make sure I was putting my best effort into everything I do. This understanding gave me a renewed sense of purpose and drive. It pushed me to focus on my future and to strive to make my dreams a reality.
I also learned that it's important to appreciate and value the people who are still in my life. My mother's death made me realize how precious life is and how important it is to cherish every moment with those who are still here. I now make an effort to be kind and show my appreciation for the people in my life, because I know that one day they won't be here.
Finally, I've learned that I have to fight for what I want in life. I know that I can't take anything for granted and that I have to work hard to make things happen. I try to remind myself of this every day and it's helped me stay motivated and focused on my goals.
The loss of a close family member or loved one can be heartbreaking and difficult to cope with. But it also has the potential to make us stronger and more focused on what matters most in our lives. I believe that knowledge is the key to unlocking potential and I strive to gain knowledge in every area of my life. With knowledge comes confidence and I am determined to use the knowledge I have gained to help me reach my goals.
One of the most important things I have learned from books and films is to never give up. I have read inspiring stories of individuals who have faced incredible odds and still managed to overcome them and make a difference in the world. This has reminded me that no matter how hard life may be, I should never give up and always keep striving to achieve my goals.
Another thing I have learned is the power of empathy. I have read stories of individuals who have been able to use empathy to make a difference in the world and to help others. This has taught me the importance of understanding and respecting the feelings and opinions of others, and to use this understanding to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Finally, I have learned the importance of taking action. I have seen characters in films take action to make a difference in the world, and this has shown me that I too can take action to make a positive impact in my own community. I plan to use my education to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to do this, and to use these skills to help those in need.
By learning from books and films, I have been able to shape my goals and ambitions, and to gain the knowledge and skills I need to make a positive impact on the world. I hope to use my education to make a difference in my own community and to help others in need.

My name is Hong Dang, and I am a junior at Warner Pacific University majoring in Bachelor of Science for nursing. I am an ambitious, hard-working, and compassionate individual with a passion for alleviating socioeconomic adversity. Coming from a low-income background, I have personally experienced the challenges of poverty and have seen firsthand how it can limit opportunities and hinder the growth and development of entire communities. This experience has instilled within me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help those facing similar struggles.
My goal is to use my knowledge and experience to create positive change in my community and school. I believe that by providing access to resources, education, and support, we can break the cycle of poverty and provide people with the resources they need to improve their quality of life. To that end, I plan on volunteering my time and services to help those in need. This can include anything from tutoring students to providing job search assistance and helping people find affordable housing. Additionally, I plan to advocate for policy changes that can help address the root causes of poverty and inequality. Drawing upon my own experiences as a poverty-stricken immigrant and first generation student, I hope to take advantage of my understanding and empathy for those who have had similar upbringings.
Experiencing socioeconomic adversity has been a major influence on my beliefs, relationships, and future plans. Growing up in a low-income household, I have developed a strong sense of resilience and a belief that, no matter how difficult the circumstances, it is possible to overcome adversity and create a better life for oneself. I am immensely grateful to my grandparents and parents for their exemplary resilience, hard work, and perseverance in the face of adversity. Despite having very little, they have instilled in me the value of hard work and its rewards. I commend them for the role they have played in helping me to get to where I am today. This experience has also shaped my relationships, as I have learned the importance of being supportive and understanding of others who are struggling. In terms of my future plans, I am committed to doing whatever I can to help those facing similar struggles and to create a more equitable society.
I am confident that by working together, we can create positive change in our communities and schools. I am eager to be a part of this effort and to do whatever I can to help those in need.
Netflix and Scholarships!
My absolute favorite Netflix series or movie is The Platform. It's a science fiction thriller set in a prison with a unique structure. The inmates are divided into two levels, the top and the bottom. Every day, a platform filled with food descends from the top to the bottom, and the inmates must fight for their share. It's a thrilling movie that explores the power dynamics of those on the top and those on the bottom and how the system can be manipulated for one's own benefit. When watching the movie I noticed the movie did an excellent job of showing us whether inside a prision or outside world there's always power dynamic in everything. Especially, if you look at how the corporate world works and how unhealthy it can be for individuals to work in such enviroment.
The Platform is a thrilling movie with unexpected plot twists and a thought-provoking message. It's a perfect movie to watch if you're looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat. The tension builds up as the inmates battle for their share of the food on the platform. The movie also makes you think about the power dynamics between those on the top and those on the bottom. It's a powerful exploration of the power struggle between the haves and have-nots.
The movie is well-acted and the cinematography is stunning. The visuals are captivating and the score is haunting. It's a movie that will keep you guessing until the very end. It truly left me at shock, throughout the movies there were trenmendously lots of details I did not catch on or notice until reading and watching from others perspectives. The ending of the movie made me think very deeply about the whole movie and had tons of questions. As if, they can carry on to make another movie if they wanted but the ending was also good where it left the viewers think and draw their own thoughts and ideas. I was a bit sad, that there wouldn't be a second one but who knows they might do make another great one.
If you're looking for a captivating and thought-provoking movie to keep you entertained, then The Platform is an excellent choice. It's an exciting movie with a powerful message that will keep you guessing until the very end. Clear your weekend and binge-watch it; you won't regret it!

My favorite game to play in co-op mode is Mario Kart. I’ve been playing it with my friends for years, and it always brings us closer together. One of the most memorable moments I’ve experienced while playing Mario Kart was when my friends and I had a mini-tournament. We started out with a round robin tournament, and then the best two players raced in the final. It was an incredibly intense race, and I remember the feeling of excited anticipation as we raced around the track. In the end, my friend emerged as the victor. The victory was a sweet one, and it solidified Mario Kart as my favorite game to play in co-op mode.
Mario Kart is an incredibly fun game to play in co-op mode, and it has been bringing my friends and I together for years. It is important to work to better understand the nature of our universe because it provides us with an opportunity to gain insight into questions about our place in the universe, the origin of our species, and the potential for our future. With such knowledge, we can begin to understand how we can best use our resources to benefit ourselves and our environment.
The first concept I would employ in order to better understand the universe is the scientific method. This method involves the use of observation, experimentation, and the testing of hypotheses to reach conclusions. This method can be used to uncover the answers to some of the most profound questions about our universe, such as the origin of life, the structure of the universe, and the forces that govern its behavior.
Another concept that I would employ is the concept of the multiverse. This theory suggests that there may be an infinite number of universes in addition to our own, and that some of these universes may have different laws of physics or even different forms of life. By exploring the multiverse, we can gain a better understanding of the structure of the universe and the forces that govern its behavior.
Finally, I would employ the concept of emergence. This concept suggests that the behavior of a system can be greater than the sum of its parts. By understanding how complex systems can emerge from simple interactions, we can gain insight into the behavior of the universe as a whole.
By employing the scientific method, exploring the multiverse, and understanding the concept of emergence, we can gain a better understanding of our place in the universe and the potential for our future. By discovering the answers to these questions, we can better use our resources to benefit ourselves and our environment.

As a sophomore in high school, I have decided to pursue the health pathway offered at my high school. Meaning that I would take general classes like everyone else but also extra health courses to graduate with the health course. Additionally, I have taken more extra health classes to further explore my passion and curiosity for the health field. From my senior year of high school, I had aspirations of becoming a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. After two years of college, I decided to commit to becoming a registered nurse specializing in pediatric or NICU care. To further my knowledge and experience in the field of nursing, I have also been actively volunteering in my community. I have dedicated more than 200+ hours to volunteering at a local hospital and clinic, specifically in the NICU, surgery, and receptionist COVID-19 center. My volunteering experiences in these departments have helped me gain a better understanding of the complex healthcare field and have allowed me to apply the knowledge I have gained in my classes to real-world situations. Furthermore, in my high school years, I have also been involved in multiple health clubs created by my high school as well as the HOSA and Wolverine pageant. The pageant aims to raise awareness and funds for children in the NICU. After application, interview, tryouts there are nine exceptional seniors have been chosen as the faces of our high school to work with Children's Miracle Network in order to fundraise for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) over the course of the entire year. My contestants and I raised $23,000 for the NICU in 2019. Being a part of the pageant has increased my love for babies which has confirmed my love to be an RN for pediatrics/NICU. My journey to becoming a nurse has been long and challenging, but I am now finally able to start my first year of studies in January 2024. After two years of waiting in the highly competitive field of nursing. I am excited to use the knowledge and experiences I have gained to help others and make a positive difference in the world. Ever since I was in high school, I have known that I wanted to work in the health field and have not considered any other career path. It was during a college tour in Portland, Oregon as a sophomore in high school when I had my "aha moment" and knew that nursing was the right career path for me. This was further reinforced through classes such as anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, which all piqued my interest and drove me to pursue nursing.
