When I reflect on why I chose nursing, I realize that my journey has been shaped by both inspiration and personal challenges. In 2020, my grandmother, who had been a nurse for many years, passed away. Her dedication to patient care and the way she carried herself with compassion left a lasting mark on me. Losing her was difficult, but it also became a turning point in my life. Her example reminded me that nursing is more than a career, it is a calling to serve others in their most vulnerable moments. At that time, I knew I wanted to honor her memory by pursuing nursing and carrying forward the values she instilled in me.
Another major influence was seeing close friends graduate from the Arizona College of Nursing. They spoke about the program with pride, sharing how it prepared them to succeed in their careers. Their stories motivated me to take a leap of faith, and I realized it was time for me to take control of my own life. I wanted to invest in a future where I could make a real difference, not only for myself but also for my family and community. Choosing Arizona College of Nursing felt like the right fit because it combined the rigorous academics, clinical experience, and supportive environment I needed to achieve my goals.
The path has not been easy. I am a first-time mom, and balancing school, motherhood, and family responsibilities has required resilience and discipline. Over the past three years of nursing school, there have been long nights of studying, early mornings for clinical rotations, and moments of exhaustion. Yet, I am proud to say that I have persevered and completed every course without failing. I credit this to my determination and the unwavering support of my husband, who works as a truck driver. While we do not have much financially, he has sacrificed to ensure I could focus on nursing school. His encouragement has given me the strength to keep moving forward even when things felt overwhelming.
This scholarship would make a significant difference for me and my family. It would ease the financial strain that comes with pursuing higher education, allowing me to focus fully on my studies and clinical experiences. More importantly, it would be an investment in my future as a nurse. I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and serving as a role model for my child, showing that hard work and perseverance make dreams possible. With the support of this scholarship, I can continue on the path to becoming the nurse I have always aspired to be, honoring my grandmother’s legacy while creating a brighter future for my family and the patients I will one day serve.
