I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in dietetics, and I am currently pursuing my master’s degree at Texas State University to fulfill my dream of becoming a pediatric dietitian. Over the past few years, I have been deeply involved in the field of nutrition. I had the opportunity to work as a nutrition intern for the Michigan State football team, volunteer at a children’s diabetes camp, and collaborate with several dietitians, all of which have enriched my knowledge and experience in this field.
Having lived with type 1 diabetes since I was six years old, I have faced my own challenges and understand the importance of resilience. My journey with diabetes has taught me that, with determination and heart, anything is achievable. This experience is what drives my passion for helping others, particularly children, feel their best through proper nutrition. I am excited to encourage, support, and believe in those I work with, empowering them to take charge of their health.
I want to make a positive impact on people's lives, one step at a time, by focusing on nutrition as a foundation for good health, especially for children.

I chose to pursue a master’s degree in nutrition with the goal of becoming a pediatric dietitian because of my personal experience living with type 1 diabetes. From a young age, I realized how crucial nutrition is to managing health, especially for someone with a chronic condition. I’ve spent years learning how to control my blood sugar, balance food intake, and manage the ups and downs that come with diabetes, and I want to use this knowledge to help others, particularly children, navigate similar challenges. My goal is to support kids by teaching them how to use food as a tool to live healthier, fuller lives, just like my healthcare providers did for me when I was younger.
Living with type 1 diabetes is tough. There are physical and emotional challenges that people who don’t have diabetes often don’t see. Constant finger pricks, insulin injections, and blood sugar fluctuations are just the surface. The mental and emotional toll is something I deal with every day. There have been countless moments where I’ve been sitting in class, feeling shaky or unwell because my blood sugar is low or high, but I push through to get the work done because that’s what needs to be done. No one knows what’s going on internally because, on the outside, I look fine. But inside, it’s a constant balancing act, and that adds a lot of stress.
Despite these challenges, diabetes has shaped me into a stronger and more determined person. It’s taught me resilience and time management because I’ve had to be mindful of not only my schoolwork but also my health. I have learned how to push through the difficult days and take care of myself, even when it feels overwhelming. It’s these experiences that have motivated me to help others who are going through similar struggles. I want to use my education to teach kids with chronic conditions that they can still live a healthy, fulfilling life.
For me, independence means being able to manage my health, education, and career on my own terms. While type 1 diabetes requires constant monitoring and attention, I refuse to let it define my life or hold me back. Pursuing this education will equip me with the tools I need to continue living independently, and more importantly, it will allow me to give back by supporting others in managing their health. This degree will not only give me the qualifications to help children through diet and nutrition, but it will also empower me to live a balanced, fulfilling life while managing my diabetes on my own terms.
In the end, I see my education as a pathway to independence, both for myself and for the children I hope to work with. I want to show them that even with a chronic condition, they can live full and independent lives—and I’m living proof of that.
Women in STEM Scholarship
This scholarship's mission to foster a community of women empowered by knowledge, driven by curiosity, and ready to contribute to the STEM field deeply resonates with me. As a woman pursuing a master's degree in nutrition, I am dedicated to applying my education in dietetics to make a positive impact, particularly through the field of pediatric dietetics. My journey into STEM, specifically nutrition science, has been fueled by both personal experience and a deep curiosity about the ways food affects health and well-being.
My interest in the STEM field began at a young age when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This life-changing experience introduced me to the critical role that diet and nutrition play in managing chronic conditions. I learned early on that food can be a powerful tool for health, and the healthcare providers who supported me became role models. Their knowledge empowered me to take control of my health, and I became curious about how I could help others do the same. This curiosity has been a driving force in my pursuit of a career in nutrition and dietetics.
At Michigan State University, where I earned my degree in dietetics, I sought every opportunity to expand my understanding of the field. My involvement as a nutrition intern for the Michigan State football team and volunteering at a children’s diabetes camp allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained in the classroom to real-world situations. These experiences solidified my desire to specialize in pediatric nutrition and work directly with children to support their health through food.
Currently, as a graduate student at Texas State University, I am continuing to build on my foundation in nutrition science. My goal is to become a pediatric dietitian, focusing on helping children develop healthy relationships with food while addressing nutrition-related health issues. This field not only involves a deep understanding of science but also requires empathy, support, and a commitment to empowering others—values that align with this scholarship’s mission to foster a community of women driven by knowledge and curiosity.
What excites me most about the future of STEM is the growing role women play in advancing scientific research, healthcare, and technology. I am proud to be part of this movement, and I am eager to contribute my knowledge and expertise to the nutrition field. As I continue my studies, I am committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families by providing them with the tools they need to achieve better health through nutrition. Additionally, I hope to inspire and mentor other women entering STEM, helping to foster a supportive community where we can all thrive and contribute to the betterment of society.
This scholarship would not only support my academic journey but also connect me with a network of like-minded women who are passionate about making a difference. Together, we can continue to break barriers, expand knowledge, and contribute to the ever-evolving field of STEM.
Harvest Achievement Scholarship
My journey in both personal and professional life has been shaped by a deep sense of accountability, which I believe is key to achieving success. From a young age, I learned the importance of responsibility through my experience managing type 1 diabetes. Diagnosed at six years old, I quickly realized that taking ownership of my health was not just necessary but empowering. This early understanding of accountability has influenced the way I approach every aspect of my life, both personally and academically.
I hold myself accountable by setting clear goals and maintaining a consistent routine. This is something I’ve practiced throughout my academic career, particularly during my time at Michigan State University, where I earned my degree in dietetics. Balancing rigorous coursework with extracurricular commitments, such as my role as a nutrition intern for the Michigan State football team, required careful time management and a strong work ethic. I learned to prioritize tasks, manage my time efficiently, and stay focused on the bigger picture. Holding myself to high standards allowed me to successfully complete my degree while gaining practical experience that prepared me for my next steps.
Now, as a graduate student at Texas State University, accountability remains central to my success. Pursuing a master’s degree while working towards my goal of becoming a pediatric dietitian demands discipline and commitment. I set regular milestones to ensure I’m on track, whether it’s completing research for a project or staying ahead in my studies. I also believe in seeking feedback from mentors and peers, using their insights to continuously improve and refine my approach.
Accountability is not just about being responsible for my own progress; it’s also about being reliable to those I work with. I’ve had the privilege of volunteering at a children’s diabetes camp, where I’ve been able to offer support and guidance to kids facing the same challenges I did. Through these experiences, I’ve learned that accountability extends beyond personal achievement—it's about showing up for others and being someone they can depend on. This has fueled my desire to become a pediatric dietitian, where I can support children and their families through nutrition, offering them the tools to improve their health and well-being.
The success I’ve achieved thus far is a direct result of holding myself accountable and embracing challenges with determination. Every obstacle has been an opportunity for growth, and each step of the way, I’ve strived to live up to the standards I set for myself. Whether in managing my diabetes, excelling academically, or gaining hands-on experience in the field of nutrition, accountability has been the driving force behind my achievements.
Ultimately, I believe that success is not just about reaching a destination but about the continuous effort to improve, learn, and grow. By holding myself accountable, I am confident in my ability to make a meaningful impact as a future pediatric dietitian, supporting children in achieving their best health.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
Pursuing a career in healthcare, specifically as a pediatric dietitian, is something I am deeply passionate about. My decision stems from both personal experience and my desire to positively impact the lives of children. Growing up, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which completely shifted my world. As a child, it was overwhelming trying to understand how to manage the condition, and it was the support of healthcare providers that made all the difference. The dietitians, nurses, and doctors who helped me navigate my diagnosis not only taught me how to manage my diabetes but also showed me the power of nutrition in promoting health. Their care and guidance inspired me to follow a similar path, where I could be that source of support for children facing their own health challenges.
My goal as a pediatric dietitian is to help children build positive relationships with food while empowering them to take control of their health. I believe food can play an incredible role in improving a child’s well-being. It’s not just about what they eat, but how they feel about food and how their choices can shape their future health.
I want to be more than just a healthcare provider—I want to be an advocate, a mentor, and a source of comfort for children and their families. One of the most rewarding aspects of working with children is the ability to make a lasting difference. Kids are incredibly resilient and open to learning, and with the right guidance, they can develop habits that will benefit them throughout their lives. Healthy eating, when introduced at a young age, can set the foundation for preventing numerous health problems, from cardiovascular diseases to diabetes.
In my personal experience, having been on the receiving end of such support, I understand how important it is for children to feel seen, heard, and understood when dealing with health challenges. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I remember feeling scared and unsure of what the future would hold. But the professionals who helped me didn’t just give me facts about managing blood sugar—they showed me that I could still live a healthy, active, and happy life, despite the challenges. That support changed my perspective and gave me the confidence to manage my health. I want to provide that same reassurance and guidance to other children who might be struggling with their health.
In a field where many children are dealing with complex health conditions, such as obesity or type 2 diabetes, I see my role as a dietitian as part of a larger effort to tackle these issues from multiple angles. By working closely with families, schools, and communities, I hope to create environments that foster healthy eating habits and a positive approach to nutrition. Food is not just fuel; it’s a part of culture, social interaction, and personal identity. Understanding that food affects not just physical health, but also mental and emotional well-being, will allow me to help children in a more holistic way.
In the end, my goal is to combine my personal experience, education, and passion for helping children into a career that makes a tangible difference in their lives. Whether it’s guiding a family through dietary changes to manage a chronic condition or simply teaching children to enjoy healthy eating, I’m committed to using food as a powerful tool for health and healing. This is my way of giving back and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Amber D. Hudson Memorial Scholarship
I understand deeply how personal experiences with illness can shape our perspective on health. Being diagnosed with type one diabetes and witnessing family members battle heart attacks and cancer has profoundly impacted my commitment to promoting wellness. This personal journey has fueled my passion for educating and assisting patients and their families on improving their quantity and quality of life through informed nutritional choices. Nutrition plays a pivotal role in our overall health and well-being. The link between what we eat and the prevention, progression, and even regression of major medical conditions is well-documented in peer-reviewed research. Diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and autoimmune disorders can be significantly influenced by our dietary habits. My goal is to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical, everyday applications for patients and their families.
Education is the cornerstone of this approach. I plan to develop comprehensive educational programs tailored to individual needs and conditions. These programs would include workshops, seminars, and one-on-one consultations. By simplifying complex nutritional information, I aim to empower patients with the knowledge they need to make healthier food choices. For example, understanding how certain foods can reduce inflammation, support immune function, or improve cardiovascular health can make a substantial difference in managing and preventing disease. Beyond education, practical assistance is crucial. I would work closely with patients to develop personalized meal plans that align with their medical conditions and personal preferences. This includes teaching cooking classes that focus on healthy, delicious recipes, and providing resources such as shopping guides and meal prep tips. The goal is to make healthy eating as accessible and enjoyable as possible.
A positive outlook and encouragement are essential components of this journey. Living with chronic illness or supporting a loved one through it can be incredibly challenging. Maintaining hope and motivation is vital. I strive to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, understood, and encouraged. Celebrating small victories, such as improved blood sugar levels or reduced cholesterol, can significantly boost morale and reinforce the benefits of nutritional changes. My approach is holistic, recognizing that lifestyle changes extend beyond diet alone. I would integrate discussions on physical activity, stress management, and mental health, recognizing their interplay with nutrition and overall health. Encouraging regular exercise, mindfulness practices, and stress-reduction techniques can complement dietary changes and contribute to a healthier, more balanced life. Support for families is equally important. I would offer family-oriented workshops to help loved ones understand the dietary needs and challenges of the patient. This support network can provide the emotional and practical assistance necessary for sustained lifestyle changes. By fostering a community of care, patients and their families can share experiences, tips, and encouragement, making the journey towards better health a collective effort.
Overall, my personal experiences with type one diabetes and family health issues have inspired a deep commitment to promoting nutritional education and support. By providing comprehensive, practical, and encouraging guidance, I aim to help patients and their families improve their quantity and quality of life. Together, we can navigate the path to better health, one informed choice at a time.

Climate change is a major global challenge and requires immediate and collective action from individuals, communities, businesses, and governments to mitigate its impacts. One of the most impactful ways to combat climate change is a combination of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting and restoring forests, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. Additionally, changing personal behavior and lifestyle habits, such as reducing meat consumption, conserving energy and water, and reducing waste can also have a significant impact.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is crucial to combating climate change. Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and cause global temperatures to rise, leading to climate change. To reduce emissions, we need to transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower. Governments and businesses must invest in the development and deployment of renewable energy technologies, while individuals can make a difference by reducing their energy consumption and choosing clean energy sources.
Protecting and restoring forests is another important step in fighting climate change. Forests are natural carbon sinks that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the form of biomass and soils. Deforestation, on the other hand, releases this stored carbon back into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. By protecting and restoring forests, we can reduce emissions and protect biodiversity, while also benefiting local communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods.
Improving energy efficiency is another critical aspect of the fight against climate change. By using energy more efficiently, we can reduce the amount of energy needed to produce goods and services, which in turn reduces emissions. Governments and businesses can take action by implementing energy efficiency policies and technologies, while individuals can conserve energy by using energy-efficient appliances, reducing energy waste, and conserving water.
Changing personal behavior and lifestyle habits can also have a significant impact in the fight against climate change. For example, reducing meat consumption, as the production of meat is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing meat consumption, we can reduce the demand for meat, which will result in fewer emissions from the production of meat. Similarly, conserving energy and water and reducing waste can help to reduce emissions and improve resource efficiency.
In conclusion, combating climate change requires collective action from individuals, communities, businesses, and governments. The most impactful ways to combat climate change are a combination of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting and restoring forests, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. Additionally, changing personal behavior and lifestyle habits, such as reducing meat consumption, conserving energy and water, and reducing waste can also have a significant impact. By taking action now, we can ensure a sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.

Once upon a time, there was a mischievous dog named Max. Max loved to play pranks and make his friends laugh. One day, Max came up with a brilliant idea for his next prank.
Max decided to sneak into the zoo and borrow an elephant for the day. So, he snuck into the zoo, found the elephant and convinced it to come with him for a "surprise adventure".
As they made their way out of the zoo, Max noticed a wet sock lying on the ground. He picked it up and put it on his paw, laughing to himself as he thought about how silly he must look.
Just then, they stumbled upon a pogo stick. Max had never seen one before, but he was eager to try it out. The elephant, however, was not as thrilled. In fact, it was downright scared!
Max tried to convince the elephant to give it a try, but the elephant just shook its head and backed away. So, Max decided to show the elephant just how much fun it could be by doing a few tricks on the pogo stick.
As Max bounced up and down, the wet sock slipped off his paw and landed on the elephant's trunk. The elephant was so surprised that it let out a loud trumpet, scaring Max and making him fall off the pogo stick.
Max got up, dusted himself off, and burst out laughing. The elephant was so funny with that wet sock on its trunk! And then, to Max's surprise, the elephant started to giggle too.
From that moment on, Max and the elephant were inseparable. They spent the rest of the day bouncing on the pogo stick and playing pranks on all the other animals at the zoo.
As the sun began to set, Max knew it was time to return the elephant to its rightful home. But before he left, he made sure to give the elephant a big hug and promise to visit again soon.
Max went back home, a huge smile on his face, knowing that he had just made a new friend for life. He had hoped on day they would reunite again, but for now max will always have the memories in his head, that I am sure no one would understand. And whenever Max and the elephant got together, they would always remember the silly, wet sock and the pogo stick that brought them together.

I value kindness in myself because it is a fundamental aspect of my personality that defines who I am as a person. Kindness is a quality that fosters positive relationships and creates a warm and welcoming environment for those around me. It is a selfless act that involves showing empathy and understanding towards others, and the ability to put oneself in someone else's shoes.
In the field of dietetics, kindness is an important quality because it helps to build trust and rapport with clients. A dietitian's job involves helping individuals to make positive changes to their diets and lifestyle, and this can be a challenging and emotional journey for many. Kindness allows me to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment, which can make all the difference in helping clients achieve their goals.
Moreover, having kindness can also help one navigate difficult situations with grace and understanding. In a fast-paced and often stressful world, being able to approach challenges with kindness and empathy can help us maintain our composure and find creative solutions to problems. Furthermore, by being kind to ourselves, we can also increase our self-confidence and resilience, allowing us to better handle setbacks and continue pursuing our goals.
Furthermore, kindness also helps to create a positive work environment and can improve teamwork and collaboration among colleagues. In a busy and fast-paced work setting, it is easy to become focused on one's own tasks and responsibilities, but taking the time to show kindness to others can help to reduce stress and improve morale.
Finally, kindness also serves as an example to others, and has the potential to inspire positive change in the world. When we act with kindness, we demonstrate to those around us the importance of empathy and compassion, and the positive impact that these qualities can have on others. Kindness can be contagious, and by embodying it in my own life, I can help to create a ripple effect of positivity.
In conclusion, having kindness as a personal value can bring numerous benefits, both professionally and personally. As a dietitian, having kindness can help build trust and improve patient outcomes, while in one’s personal life, it can lead to more fulfilling relationships and a greater sense of well-being. Furthermore, being kind to oneself and others can help us navigate life’s challenges with grace and understanding, allowing us to grow and thrive both as individuals and as members of society.

I just lost my grandfather, May 31st 2022. I have never lost a family member or friend before. I was dealing with a whole lot of new feelings by myself. I cried, I was angry and I had no motivation. Grief was a new concept to me and I did not know how to cope with it. A couple days after my grandfather passed away, I decided to turn my summer around. I knew I had to be strong for my family and myself. I began to look at the world a little different and appreciate the small things in life. I began to take care of my body more by feeding it right, stretching and exercising. I started to treat my mind right by doing positive affirmations in front of the mirror, taking breaks and meditating. I focused on the things I can control in my life instead of dwelling on the things I can't control. I made new goals for myself such as getting more involved with clubs at school, going to get help from my professors when I get confused and most importantly stepping out of my way to help others in need. I decided I was going to be a better person than I was before my grandfather passed away. I want him to be more proud of the person who I am becoming instead of the person I was. My goals and ambitions are bigger than ever now. I want to make a difference in people's lives and make an impact to change the world. I know that I'm just one person, but one person at a time can soon make a difference in what they believe in and I want to be a part of that. One step at a time I will continue to achieve my goals such as continuing my education to become a dietitian in order to help others feel the best the can feel in their bodies. Overall, loss is hard. No matter who it is, loss affects everyone on every inch of the world. I learned that it is ok to be sad and mad but it is important to remember who you are and how you can be strong for the people closest to you in your life and for the person that passed away. I have a whole new view of my life and I am thrilled to continue thriving in life and becoming a better version of myself.

Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
One practical solution for helping people who struggle with mental health is learning new skills of how to cope. I think this is an extremely important solution because it will help people understand what they are feeling and how to deal with their feelings. I wish I was taught the skills of learning how to cope with poor mental health. I have gone 17 years of my life without knowing the skills of coping with a mental illness. The past three years have been extremely tough for me and my mental health plummeted. I had no idea how to deal with feelings, actions or thoughts. I have developed skills of my own but sometimes I feel there are better methods that I am not aware of. Teaching the mental health coping strategies in schools, putting a flier out in public places or even just a person presenting on the topic to help get the skills and strategies will go a long way to help people deal with their mental health.

Healthy Living Scholarship
A healthy lifestyle is extremely important to me because being healthy strongly correlates to being happy. I am a type one diabetic and I found that eating healthier helps keep my blood sugars in check which makes me feel amazing (and makes my doctors happy too). I am a student majoring in dietetics and so far I am in love with all the material I am learning. I am learning what the body needs, what is good and bad for you and how to treat people. I want to spread my positivity and knowledge to others to try and help people live with a healthier lifestyle. Being healthy means I am eating rainbow fruits and veggies, foods that contain antioxidants, drinking tons of water, exercising and taking time to relax as well. Each and everyday I do my best to stay on this healthy lifestyle track, but once in a while I fall off. When this happens I tend to eat chocolate, and I have noticed the more sugar I eat, the more likely I am to be in a bad mood, bloated and lazy. Having noticed these symptoms I try to substitute my cravings with healthier options in order to feel the best that I can. I also learned that healthy lifestyles lead to less of a chance to get diseases such as heart disease and type two diabetes. Avoiding these will help your body and help you live longer because both of these diseases are life threatening. Overall, being healthy leads to a happier life and I am proud that I am able to achieve this feeling almost everyday for my physical and mental health.
Dog Lover Scholarship
Dogs have always made me happy in life. They are there when you come home. There for you when you have a bad day. There for you for whatever the reason may be. I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 6 years old and when I came home to my dog she was the only one who thought I hadn't changed. My family looked at me differently because they were scared. My friends did not understand and thought I had some strange disease. The only one who did not look at me differently was my dog. My dog is 14 years old and we still love each other endlessly. She has made my life so much better, she was a blessing in disguise. Gracie, the black miniature schnauzer is and will forever be my best friend. She has been in my life from elementary school and now to college. She has been with me through the rough and good times. She is the best walking buddy and sleeping buddy. Ever since we had gotten Gracie I have fallen in love with dogs. Today, I have 3 amazing dogs who all have lovable personalities. I wouldn't be the person I am today without them in my life. Dakota (7 years) and Lucy (3 year) have also made an impact on my life. Dakota is there for me when I just want to lay around and eat food and Lucy will never pass up an opportunity to go on a 5 mile run with me. My love for dogs is so strong that I want to breed dogs of my own one day to give to families so that I can feel the love of a dog one day, everyone deserves that.
