Furthering my education is incredibly crucial. I'm attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in the fall as a freshman, and I don't think I would have ever been able to do it if it weren't for music. I have synesthesia, which is a condition that causes my senses to overlap, allowing me to see sounds and vibrations, thus allowing me to essentially see color. Couture has always interested me, but I felt it was too shallow. I wanted more, so with the help of my ability, I created a line that I used to get into FIT using my synesthesia and my favorite songs. Music is essentially a reflection of personality, so if I made an outfit based on a person's song, that outfit would suit them perfectly. My second dream is to create a clothing line for autistic kids and adults, people with sensory issues who find it difficult shopping for clothing because of their impairment. High fashion is art and should be shared, but someone with sensory issues may not be able to make it through the day wearing some. This touched me as a person with sensory issues and having a younger brother with autism. He's still too young to care much about fashion or how he looks, but I hope my future line will be of interest to him at some point. I think I would like to call my line "Sensoria," but I guess it's something I need to workshop while I'm studying at FIT. My father is not around much, so my mother would have been the one to pressure me into going to college, but she didn't. When I was a baby, my uncle stole money from my father and fled to another country. My parents lost hundreds of thousands of dollars. They were struggling to make ends meet for years until my dad got an offer for a job that would pull them out of their hole and enable them to support me and my sister. This job had a downside. My dad would only be able to see his family for a day out of the week. So though it was difficult, my relationship with my father changed. We are not as close as we would have been if he hadn't taken that job, but we would be in a way worse place if he hadn't. I would not be writing this essay right now if my uncle hadn't done what he did. Not just because we would have had money to pay for college ourselves, but because from that incident, my mother raised me to be ambitious. Because we had less money, I was more grateful for what I had. And from there, I want to repay my parents by finishing school, getting my degree, and becoming a fashion designer. Fashion is the way I can do what I love, which is mixing art and design, and simultaneously making money to have a stable and happy life.

Though I had my extremely difficult times growing up in an emotionally abusive friendship, music was there for me in front of my eyes, whether I liked it or not. Ultimately, after I left the relationship, I discovered my passion. Couture has always interested me, but I felt it was too shallow.
