I grew up in Montebello, a low-income community in East Los Angeles, where I learned early that having access to opportunities can make a difference in someone's life. As a first-generation college student, I had to figure out much of my education on my own. I did not have family members who could guide me through financial aid, college applications, or the challenges of pursuing higher education. Despite those obstacles, I earned my bachelor's degree and continued working toward my goals. My educational journey has not always been easy. I have taken on student loans and attend graduate school part-time because of the cost. I am currently pursuing my Master of Health Administration at USC while working full-time in healthcare IT at Keck Medicine of USC. Balancing work, school, and financial responsibilities has taught me to keep going, even when the path is difficult. My goal is to become a healthcare leader who understands both the technology behind healthcare and the needs of the people receiving care. Working in healthcare IT has shown me how problems with patient records, communication, and access to information can affect patient safety. I want to use my education and professional experience to help hospitals improve their systems, reduce barriers to care, and make healthcare more accessible. Giving back has always been important to me. I have volunteered with the LA Mission, Meals on Wheels, and local hospitals. I also created a reading program through Girl Scouts and enjoy mentoring students interested in healthcare technology. These experiences remind me that helping others does not always require a large contribution. Sometimes, sharing what you know or helping someone find an opportunity can make a lasting difference. As a first-generation student, I know how difficult it can be to pursue higher education without financial support or guidance. I want to use my experience to encourage other students who may feel that college or a career in healthcare is out of reach. Receiving this scholarship would help ease the financial burden of graduate school and allow me to focus more on completing my education. I hope to use what I learn to improve healthcare, support my community, and help others find opportunities they may not have had growing up.

I want to help make mental health care easier to access and afford, especially for people who may not know where to turn for help. Through my work in healthcare IT and my Master of Health Administration program, I have seen how confusing and difficult the healthcare system can be. I believe technology can be part of the solution. I want to use my healthcare experience to make it easier for patients to find mental health services, use telehealth, and connect with the right resources without a long, confusing process. Cost is also a major problem. I want to work with healthcare organizations to find ways to offer more affordable options and connect people with services in their communities. I also believe people should not feel embarrassed or judged for asking for help. Mental health should be treated like any other part of a person’s health. No one should feel like they have to suffer alone because they are afraid of what others might think. My goal is to continue growing in healthcare administration and use what I learn to make care better for people who are often overlooked. I may not be able to change the entire healthcare system by myself, but I can help make it a little easier for someone to get the support they need.
