My name is Haylee, and I have just been admitted to Georgia Tech’s Graduate Architecture program! My dream is to design themed spaces within healthcare facilities, such as children’s hospitals, inspired by my personal experience as a childhood cancer survivor. When I was treated for Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, I was fortunate to be surrounded by a clean yet creative facility that nurtured my imagination. That experience ultimately became the foundation of my passion for architecture.
Outside of my career goals, I am working to create a new student organization focused on making handmade beanies to donate to local children’s hospitals. We would also plan to host events where students can interact with young patients and survivors and help inspire the next generation.
I am also a former college athlete who now enjoys coaching kids. In my free time, I love golfing, pottery, photography, and traveling whenever I have the opportunity.

Eldorado Tools: The Build and Make Scholarship
My passion comes from my goal as an architect to blend themed entertainment with health in children’s hospitals. As a childhood cancer survivor, I’m grateful not only for the medical team who cared for me but also for the creative environment that surrounded me. Even in moments of fear and uncertainty, that space sparked my imagination and helped me feel like a kid again. It offered more than comfort; it gave me hope. That experience shaped more than my recovery. It shaped the direction of my life and laid the foundation for my future career.
I want to design environments that do the same for others. I want to create spaces that go beyond the sterile and impersonal. Places where children can dream, play, and feel seen. I believe creativity is at the heart of innovation, and that when we design with imagination at the forefront, we create environments that uplift, inspire, and empower. Children deserve healing spaces that reflect their sense of wonder, not just their condition.
With a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and a future master’s in architecture, I am committed to combining creative storytelling, sustainable thinking, and technical skill to reimagine what healthcare environments can be. I had the opportunity to intern with the Walt Disney World Resort, where I saw firsthand how immersive environments are thoughtfully constructed. At my next university, I plan to start a student organization based in the architecture building where students come together to crochet beanies, scarves, and mittens to donate to children’s hospitals. We will also organize social events where students can interact with young patients, introduce them to architecture and engineering, and ask what ideas they would love to see in hospital spaces. We will then reimagine and sketch their concepts, showing them just how powerful their creativity truly is. Hopefully, with enough support from faculty and third-party collaborators, we can bring one of these ideas to life within a children’s healthcare facility, taking a child’s concept from imagination to a real part of the hospital. My dream is that each design honors the child who inspired it, giving them a permanent place in the healing environment they helped shape.
As a first-generation college student, affording higher education has not come easily. I have many ideas, but what I lack is the technical knowledge and resources to bring them to life. A master’s degree will equip me with the tools and training to make these ideas real.
Opportunities like the Eldorado Tools Scholarship help make it possible for students like me to pursue our goals and create lasting impact in the communities we care most about.
