Hi, my name is Haylee Renee Hawkins, I am a 17 Year old High School student with 2 jobs. I work very hard to achieve the goals I have set and don't let anything get in the way of what I desire. My mom and dad got divorced when I was 5 and I had to learn how to be independent at such a young age and live without my father. Growing up I got bullied for my acne and how energetic and full of energy I was, but these experiences made me who I am now and I wouldn't change a thing.
I am involved in my Church community and attend every Sunday service and youth group session every week. When I was younger I used to help my grandma at her church make bags of food and water for homeless people in need and host many potlucks. My church has fundraisers and mission trips that we fund and can attend. I am going on a mission trip in October of 2025 to help build roofs for people in LA. We are doing this because the fires in LA took so much from people and they need help the most right now. I volunteered at the Veterans center every year for JROTC from 2022 to and of 2024. Other events I did were helping downtown for the Christmas parades, Cadet ball, to properly dispose of US flags, and more. I donate clothes and food to local churches or stores 2 times a year.
My financial status plays a big part as to why I'm applying for so many scholarships. My mom doesn't make a lot of money and my father is not in the picture. I have to work to pay for my car, my car insurance, clothes, and future college funds. I need any type of financial aid I can get.
The way I keep children safe in my community is making sure they are friends with the right people and be a helping hand when they need it. If I see a child alone I immediately go and see if everything is okay and take them to a trusted adult because they could be a possible victim for anyone looking to do bad things to people. Kids are very vulnerable online nowadays and making sure they know the risks of social media is important. Not putting your personal information online is especially very important due to predators or strangers finding it.
Bullying is not something to be taken lightly, I was bullied and I don't ever want anyone of any age to have to go through what I went through. I tell the child to tell a trusted adult and block the person bullying them. People who bully others online are usually the ones going through something in their life and just want to take it out on others. I think they need a helping hand too, because maybe they don't have anyone to talk too or anyone they can trust.
In conclusion, I believe that helping the people around you and doing amazing things to help others can better yourself and help you become a good soul.
