Bio

As a first-generation graduate in my family grew up n a middle-class family. Graduating in 1977 from high school with a child on hip I enrolled at Indiana Community college in 1979. Working full-time as a housekeeper and going to school in the evenings was tough but I graduated in 1983 with an Associates' degree in Electronics Technology. I submitted my employment application three times over a year period at Eastman Kodak. Finally, at the fourth attempt, I was hired as a Field Engineer. After 10 years Kodak downsized and I was unemployed again. I had traveled several times to West Africa and decided to work there full-time in a humanitarian effort. For nearly twenty years I taught adult literacy, MS office to college graduates, and operated an after-school program for grades 1-9. I found this work very fulfilling and rewarding. There is a hunger to learn and students of all ages, registered in my courses and programs took their studies very seriously. In 2016, I returned to the United States enrolling at Marin University in 2017 in Computer Software Applications. I graduated summa cum laude in May of 2020. I am currently registered at Eastern University in Data Science (MS). My goal is to obtain my Ph.D. and return to Africa as an employer in Impact Sourcing, providing jobs and training to less advantaged students in data scrubbling, data mining, etc. This scholarship would really help me to fully implement my goal without the burden of college debt and purchase needed school supplies. I am 62 years old and I am not stopping yet.
