Bio

I am a third-year PhD candidate in Neuroscience at Arizona State University. Originally from India, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Medicine in 2018 before pursuing a Master's in Neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago, where I graduated with distinction in 2020. My professional experience includes working in the biotechnology industry, where I studied stem cell-derived brain organoids for high-throughput drug screening. Motivated by a desire to make a long-lasting impact in neuroscience, I decided to return to academia to pursue my PhD. As a first-generation immigrant in the United States, I am deeply passionate about the transformative power of education and am committed to advancing research in neuroscience

Damodhar Masram Excellence Scholarship for Graduate Students
I am currently a third-year PhD candidate in the Neuroscience program at Arizona State University, where my research is focused on understanding brain development and disease mechanisms. I received my Bachelor's degree in Medicine from India in 2018, and my curiosity about the complexities of the brain led me to pursue a Master's in Neuroscience from Loyola University Chicago, which I completed with distinction in 2020. Following this, I worked in the biotechnology industry studying stem cell-derived brain organoids for high-throughput drug screening. However, I ultimately decided to return to academia to pursue a PhD, motivated by the desire to make a long-lasting impact on the scientific community. I am a first-generation immigrant from India, and my journey to the United States has been one filled with both challenges and triumphs. Moving to a new country to pursue my dreams was not an easy decision, but it has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Navigating different educational systems, overcoming cultural barriers, and adjusting to a new way of life have all shaped me into a resilient and driven individual. As a first-generation immigrant, I understand the value of education not just as a means to personal success, but as a powerful tool to inspire others, especially those who come from underserved or marginalized communities. The Damodhar Masram Scholarship is an incredible opportunity to honor the legacy of a man who deeply believed in the transformative power of education and the pursuit of excellence in innovative fields. Damodhar Masram’s vision aligns with my own goals, as I am committed to advancing neuroscience research with the aim of improving human health and well-being. I believe that science, like technology, has the potential to bring about real-world change, and it is my aspiration to contribute to both. If awarded this scholarship, I would honor Damodhar’s legacy by continuing to pursue excellence in my research and education. I plan to leverage the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of neuroscience by exploring new therapeutic avenues for neurological disorders, particularly those that involve complex brain networks. Given my background in biotechnology and experience with stem cell-derived brain organoids, I am particularly interested in developing innovative, technology-driven solutions for drug discovery and personalized medicine. In addition to my academic endeavors, I am also passionate about how technology can be used to transform the research process itself. By developing new tools for data sharing, collaboration, and analysis, I believe we can accelerate scientific discovery and foster greater innovation across interdisciplinary fields. My experiences as a first-generation immigrant have instilled in me a profound appreciation for the importance of education and resilience. As someone who has navigated both academic and cultural challenges, I am determined to pay forward the opportunities that have been given to me. Through this scholarship, I would not only be able to continue my own studies, but also contribute to the larger mission of empowering underrepresented individuals in STEM fields, especially those from immigrant backgrounds. I have witnessed firsthand how access to education and mentorship can empower individuals to achieve their dreams, and I am committed to helping others realize their potential in the same way. In conclusion, if selected as the recipient of the Damodhar Masram Scholarship, I will use this opportunity to honor his belief in education and innovation by advancing research that bridges the gap between neuroscience and technology. I will contribute to the legacy of excellence by continuing my studies with passion and purpose, and by sharing the knowledge I gain with others to inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and thinkers.
