I am a first-generation Chinese American from Southern California who will be matriculating to Carleton College in Fall 2026 on a pre-law track. I have always made it a point to develop an appreciation for both STEM and the humanities, and will be carrying that practice into college as a double major in history and computer science. In high school, I primarily competed in the project-based research competition National History Day. My historical film about pharmaceutical regulations in relation to Frances Kelsey and the thalidomide scandal placed 3rd internationally in 2024 and is now preserved in the Library of Congress. My historical research led me to volunteer virtually as well, where I used optical character recognition software and machine learning to archive and index documents for the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, and National Archives. My engagement in computer science was expanded by my experience as a national semifinalist in the Air Force's cybersecurity competition CyberPatriot, as well as through a computer science class in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's MITES program. I was also involved in student government as a publicist for Student Forum. I am eager to continue exploring technology, ethics, and history through a lens of civic engagement and public impact, and see a career in law as a way to practice my passion for amplifying silenced voices. I am especially inspired by lawyer and civil rights activist Minoru Yasui for saying, "We are born into this world for a purpose: to make it a better place for our having been here."
