Bio

My plans is to attend Vernon college and then transfer to Midwestern State University. I’m pursuing a degree in sports medicine/ physical therapy. I have been an athletic trainer all four years in high school. Being in this program is what led me to my decision of becoming an athletic trainer in the future. I enjoyed helping my classmates on the field when needed. I’m passionate about my family, friends, and classmates. I want to show them that I can achieve my goals in life. In receiving any scholarships will help me with books and tuition and help take the burden off myself and family.

    Be A Vanessa Scholarship
I am a senior at Vernon High School. I have many hobbies ranging from drawing, tattooing, painting, coaching, archery, dancing, and messing with horses. I have been active in campfire for 8 years. I also go up to McCord Elementary where my mom works and help out in the classrooms. I was diagnosed with serve dyslexia in the second grade. This made learning hard, but I had a great teacher LeeAnn Cook that helped me get where I am today. I’m a tumble and cheer coach at Alpha Elite Tumbling & Cheer. I plan on attending college to pursue my degree in sports medicine/ physical therapy. I have been an athletic trainer for four years with football, four years with track, four years with wrestling, and one year for baseball. Being an athletic trainer is what made me to decide on becoming an athletic trainer in the future. I have learned so much in the last four years training. I enjoyed working with the coaches and my classmates on the field when needed. When I receive my degree I plan on applying at a high school level to begin my career. My goal for the athletes is their health and helping prevent injuries while in sports. And teaching young trainers as I was taught and hope they enjoy it as much as I did in high school. And maybe one day they will continue or consider to becoming an athletic trainer in the future. More about me with training is I sub-stain an ankle injury during a practice for competitive cheer. It took weeks for it to heal and I still had to wear an ankle brace when I competed. I also got a concussion from a car wreck in high school. So when the football players get a concussion I know how they feel and know the symptoms. I have seen ankle injuries, dislocated shoulders, broken bones, bloody noses, and hamstring injuries. My family lost an important person to our family three days before Christmas in 2020. My me-maw on my dads side was the glue to our family and now it’s not the same without her here with us. Seven days later we lost my grandpa on my moms side. So Christmas for us every year is tough but we make it the best that we can for everyone. If I was to receive this scholarship it would help me and my family financially. To help pay for books, supplies, or even tuition.

I have seen ankle injuries, dislocated shoulders, broken bones, bloody noses, and hamstring injuries. My dad opened up an archery shop in Vernon and we lost everything in a fire in February 2022. It was hard seeing everything he work for just go away. After that we were approached to buy a local gym for me in March 2022 to run when I graduate. My plan at the time is to become a cheer coach and coaching competitive cheer. Now my plans have changed and as we still operate the gym and I continue to work and coach there. I love watching the kids learn and grow while at the gym. We learn everyday that it’s hard to run a small local business. We keep our prices low so every child can have the opportunity to join, learn, and enjoy tumbling. My dad now has his on construction company since my grandpa retired. And just like any other businesses, construction can be hard too. My family lost an important person to our family three days before Christmas in 2020.
