Ever since COVID, I discovered my love for photography. It started with nature photography and then it moved to portraits of my friends and dog. I was doing all of this on my phone at first until Christmas of 2021. Receiving my first camera opened a new door for me, as a kinesthetic learner, I messed around with the buttons and finally learned how to use the exposure and what modes did what. I was still confused about what they did and what was what. Joining my photography class in 2022, I learned so much more about my camera.
Collaborating with people is like a set of new eyes. I learned that when I started learning about photography in 2020 off of an app. When I would show my parents the pictures I photographed, they told me they were so good, and that's what I thought until I look back at them and see how bad they looked compared to my new ones. Fortunately, that's where I started, with opinions from my parents.
The photography class of my junior year is where I learned the most. My teacher had assigned students to pair up with someone and do an assignment together, but I have never talked to the person next to me. This project we did helped me create a bond with her, so if I ever need help, she is the first I go to. Collaborating with her taught me more things about her and her work. Six months later, she and I bonded over the pictures we took for the projects we had to do and asked for each other's opinions. When doing that, we are honest with each other and it is really enjoyable because it improves our critiquing, editing and photographing skills.
When you receive critique from a person in the same field of study as you, that's where it becomes the most useful because you understand each other. When you collaborate with someone, the project becomes more enjoyable when you do it with the right person(s). You also receive that extra help from other people because we are all in the same boat of learning.
Although I am still learning about photography, working around people who enjoy the same hobby as me and have the same taste as me is very enjoyable. I learn more about them as a photographer and about them as a person. I enjoy collaborating with new people and learning about them and their backgrounds. Even though sometimes I am nervous to meet new people, I enjoy doing it. Meeting new people is very beneficial because if you ever need help, they would be there to help you if they understand.
In conclusion, fine arts revolves around relationships that developed in preparation for big events. Collaborating with new people can open up so many different opportunities for you and the person you’re in collaborating with. You also learn patience if you don’t work well with that person and can work past your differences.
