Bio

I have a strong passion for engineering and some of my goals are to get my engineering degree, build my resume, and work towards my dream job of developing technologically advanced limb prosthetics. I'm a hard working student that sticks to plans while still being flexible in case something doesn't go according to plan.

I'm a mechanical engineering major and my dream job is to develop affordable advanced limb prosthetics. I was hoping for an experience in college that would let me explore that, but I didn't have high hopes because the field is so new. That's when my professor for my mechanical system designs class announced we would have a project that would require us to make some sort of medical device out of recycled objects. I immediately had a flow of ideas and a rush of excitement; this is the first project I've had in college that will let me somewhat dabble in my dream job! Since I've just been assigned this project I haven't gotten to see the results of it yet, but I get filled with childlike creativity and inspiration when it comes to figuring out how I could design something so mechanical to mimic something so organic. Now I know getting technology to perfectly resemble human limbs in form and function would be nearly impossible, but the fact that we could get somewhere close to that makes me excited for the future. I saw a video of a quadriplegic woman getting her first advanced prosthetic arm and for the first time in a while, she was able to hold up a cup of water and drink from it on her own. She sounded so relieved and surprised she was able to do something the average person would view as mundane. My goal in life is to make technology like that more accessible so more people can experience things they have either never been able to do or things they haven't been able to do by themselves in a while. I would love to help improve people's quality of life and independence while working to make that technology more affordable. I greatly look forward to being able to have more hands-on experience with technology as it's been my goal since I was in elementary school. I've always wanted to work with my hands and explore all the creativity the world of science has to offer. My next steps are getting internship experience, graduating with my bachelor's degree, and working hard to get to my dream job. My path to my dream job may not be clear to me at the moment, but I always make organized plans to achieve my goals. I look forward to learning in my future engineering career after college and exploring the advancement in technology people have been working on.
