I’m a survivor, a living testament to the resilience of the human spirit, proving that it’s possible to rise from the ashes. One fateful night at 2 AM, as we ascended into the darkened sky on our journey to Hong Kong, I was abruptly jolted awake by a thunderous crash. The deafening sound echoed in my ears as the plane made a violent impact with the ground during takeoff. Adrenaline surged through my veins, propelling me out of my seat. I stumbled toward the emergency exit, taking fleeting glances at the faces around me—pure terror mirrored in their wide, panic-stricken eyes. Just as I reached for the exit, a second explosion reverberated through the cabin, sending jolts of fear coursing through my body. My heart pounded against my chest like a drumbeat, a rhythm etched into my memory forever.
As chaos ensued, I spotted an elderly woman crumpled helplessly against the cold, unforgiving cement floor. Fueled by instinct, I darted over, my hands trembling as I pulled her away from the impending disaster. It felt like an eternity before the ambulance arrived, headlights piercing the smoke-laden night and sirens wailing in the distance. We were whisked away to nearby hotels, but by the morning light, the harsh reality set in. We received the heartbreaking news: the elderly lady and several others hadn’t made it. A deep sorrow enveloped me, sinking like a stone in my chest. In that moment of overwhelming grief, I found clarity—the gift of survival ignited a fire within me to reevaluate my values and discover my true purpose.
Amidst a whirlwind of emotions, a million questions spiraled through my mind: “What do I truly want to pursue?” and “What truly matters in my life?” Desperate for answers, I immersed myself in the biographies of remarkable figures, landing on the story of Elon Musk. His journey is a rollercoaster of failures, yet he never allowed them to keep him down. Our educational systems can sometimes feel punitive, trapping us within rigid confines while we yearn to break free. Through my reflections, I’ve learned that every setback brings invaluable lessons, leading us to a richer path filled with wisdom that far outweighs any illusion of an easy existence.
Now, I’m poised and ready to embrace whatever challenges may come my way, for no struggle can eclipse the profound value of life itself. As I prepare to step onto the campus of California Polytechnic University - Pomona, I carry with me these newfound values and lessons. I am resolute in my commitment to embrace failures as stepping stones for growth. I approach this new chapter with adaptability, ready to navigate unfamiliar terrains regardless of any disabilities I may face. Positivity and resilience guide my spirit, as I refuse to let fear tether me during my college journey. I will walk onto campus with an open mind and a heart full of excitement, ready to face the challenges ahead that will expand my horizons and create opportunities aligned with my authentic self and dreams.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Jack Terry's story resonates profoundly within my heart, exemplifying the strength to overcome adversity and the vital importance of giving back to society. Growing up in a first-generation, low-income, single-parent household, I often grappled with the painful belief that my father had abandoned me and my mother when I was born. This thought haunted my childhood, casting a shadow over my experiences and filling my heart with questions that felt too big to answer. Each day, I fought against the suffocating worries about money and the weight of unfulfilled dreams. Yet, amid these struggles, I discovered an extraordinary sense of resilience and ambition.
My mother, an immigrant from Fujian, China, became my unwavering anchor. She worked tirelessly, often sacrificing her own needs and dreams to provide for us, her heart overflowing with love and determination. I watched her battle exhaustion, rising each morning with unwavering strength. Her sacrifices ignited a fire within me—a fire fueled by the desire to honor her efforts and to forge a path to a brighter future for our family.
In those quiet moments of reflection, when the world felt heavy and loneliness crept in, I would remember my mother’s fierce determination. It became clear to me that I had to channel that strength into something transformative. This realization led me to my passion for architecture. I believe that our surroundings powerfully shape our experiences and aspirations. I long to design spaces that not only foster connections but also reflect the vibrant tapestry of our society—spaces that echo the sense of belonging that my mother fought so hard to instill in me.
As one of the few women of color in my program, my heart swells with pride and responsibility. I aspire to be a beacon of hope for the next generation, proving that they can thrive in STEM careers against all odds. My dream is to create a world where young girls of color look in the mirror and see their potential shining back at them, where they feel empowered to break barriers and chase their dreams.
I am committed to connecting these future innovators with mentors who can guide and uplift them through initiatives that nurture community and support. Representation matters, and I want to ensure that every child knows they are seen and valued. By designing inclusive spaces for those who have been overlooked and collaborating with local organizations, I aim to create opportunities that empower individuals to pursue their passions without hesitation.
Through these efforts, I hope to inspire aspiring women of color in STEM, cultivating a future where our voices are celebrated, and our dreams are realized. Together, we can rise, uplift one another, and create a world where every young architect can transform their dreams into reality, just as my mother dreamed for me.
In her honor, I promise to keep pushing forward, to break down the barriers that once held her back. Carrying her spirit with me, I remind myself that love, resilience, and courage can illuminate even the darkest paths. I cherish the belief that my journey, marked by challenges and triumphs, will empower others to embrace their dreams and find their purpose.

I fear the remote thought of being the mere average, the plight of the ordinary, as to live at someone else’s discretion. Being the first female to attend college, I have decided to challenge the status quo that women don’t need a higher education in this patriarchal society.
They say relentless command is success. While I still have a long jaunt to cover, my perseverance alone has brought me this celebration in life academically and otherwise.
For the distant observer, words like ”backwards“, “neglected” and “undeveloped” seem malapropos when describing my hometown. A bustling metropolis, at the face of it, seems dynamic. A changing landscape with around the clock development and infrastructure. To the untrained eyes, these qualities are equivalent to a booming economy with all perks accompanying it. My part of the story however, is more poignant.
While men have been encouraged to pursue a higher education in engineering, science, and technology, women have been enticed to focus their energies elsewhere and accept the so-called realities of life. For every woman who has had big dreams, a question arises: Why must she fight with outdated and untrue beliefs?
And most do without demure, my mother. A similar fate befell my mother, who was forced to give up her college education and marry as a juvenile. Approaching an age considered an “expiration date” for marriage, The notion of wanting a master’s degree in architecture and a career in the same field has to some extent, a certain stigma attached to it even today.
Shattered dreams leave a void hole in your heart that can rarely be filled. Having a daughter lit up a new hope in my mother’s heart, and she envisioned that one day I would chase my dreams just as she had aspired to.
She dedicated all my time and efforts to ensuring I excelled inside and outside school. The by-product was that I became extremely dedicated to performing everything at my fullest potential. The constant dedication and ambition encouraged me to boldly chase my dreams of becoming an architect.
With a deep passion for architecture, I am determined to create spaces that inspire and uplift individuals. I aspire to study architecture not merely as a career but as a powerful means to contribute positively to society and demonstrate that anything is achievable. This passion fuels my commitment to help others. I aim to leave a lasting impact through my designs, embodying the spirit of innovation and creativity.
Receiving the scholarship will not only relieve financial stress but also empower me to focus on my studies while inspiring other women. This scholarship will provide professional development and recognition of my potential. This support fuels my passion for architecture, allowing me to create uplifting spaces and break barriers in pursuit of my dreams.
As I step into my journey at college, I will bravely chase my dreams and will not let the shackles diminish my journey. I will carry my hopes and dreams with me, knowing that I am not only paving the way to higher education for myself, but also inspiring other women to break through barriers. I am excited to enter this new chapter of my life and to define what is possible.

The phrase "special ed" often carries heavy connotations, evoking feelings of fear and insecurity. There was a time when I believed that people viewed me as an idiotic outcast, someone who was not as rational or smart as my peers in the classroom. The truth was, I was struggling with English—a completely new language that felt impossibly foreign to me. When my teacher announced, “Time to head to the special ed classroom,” I pretended not to hear her. My classmates, however, knew she was talking about me, and I was overwhelmed by embarrassment, guilt, and anger.
Initially, I resisted the idea of going to the special education room. It felt as if it would mark me as different in a way I didn’t want. But after some internal struggle, I decided to follow her lead. I reminded myself, “I need to do this, for me and for mom.” Growing up as a poor girl in Fujian, China, my mother faced her own struggles. She dropped out of school at the young age of 15 to help support her family. After immigrating to the United States, she was torn between the need to work to earn money and her desire to take care of me while managing household duties. Despite the hardships, she raised me with love, providing me with food, clothes, and support.
Unfortunately, my elementary school lacked adequate resources for struggling students like me. My homework was often late, the answers incorrect, and consequently, my grades remained below average. This constant struggle worried my mother, prompting her to transfer me to a bilingual charter school, where I hoped to find better support. Although I appreciated her efforts, I felt anxious about starting anew among strangers in a different environment.
Transitioning to Chaparral Middle School proved challenging. The new environment and learning methods required significant adjustments. After a year, I received notice to participate in special education classes. I was unfamiliar with the concept since my previous school didn’t offer such programs. Initially, I refused to attend these classes; it felt like a judgment on my abilities. I often turned down the idea until my teacher came to fetch me. Eventually, I realized that my reluctance needed to change. If I wanted to earn better grades, attending special education was necessary for improving my English skills.
In seventh grade, English became one of my most difficult subjects, particularly when it came to reading. The struggle to comprehend the language often left me feeling frustrated and defeated. Thankfully, my English teacher was incredibly patient and supportive. He encouraged me to put in the effort and take thorough notes, which I found incredibly helpful. Gradually, I began to see improvements on my tests and quizzes. One day, I was shocked to discover I had scored a perfect mark on a test! My hard work was finally paying off, and my teacher expressed genuine pride in my accomplishments. That moment filled me with hope and determination, inspiring me to keep pushing forward.
Throughout my middle school years, I continued to work hard, facing and overcoming challenges along the way. I learned to embrace my uniqueness and accept that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Now a high school student, I still encounter struggles, but I remain focused on my studies with the goal of attending college. I have even made the dean’s list, a testament to my progress and perseverance. Along the way, I’ve discovered the importance of community and the value of my own cultural background, which motivates me to work even harder.
Looking back, special education turned out to be a blessing in disguise for me. It provided the support I needed to improve my skills and confidence. As I look ahead to college, I do so not only in hopes of securing a better life for myself but also to honor my mother and her family name by carrying it with me to higher education. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every step has been worth it. Together, we’ve overcame so much and I am excited for this new chapter of my life.

Once upon a time, there was a bright and spirited girl named Hannah. At just six years old, life had thrown her some challenges that no child should have to face. After being placed in foster care due to family difficulties, Hannah felt scared and alone. The world around her seemed uncertain, but deep inside, she held onto a flicker of hope.
Hannah was placed with a loving foster family, the Johnsons, who had opened their hearts and home to children in need. From the very first day, Mrs. Johnson greeted Hannah with a warm smile and a gentle hug. “You’re safe here,” she said softly, her eyes filled with kindness. For the first time in a while, Hannah felt a sense of comfort.
The Johnsons had two children of their own, Alex and Sarah, who welcomed Hannah with open arms. They shared their toys, invited her to play games, and treated her like a sister. As days turned into weeks, Hannah began to blossom. She had never experienced the joy of family dinners or cozy movie nights before, and she soaked it all in like a sponge.
One rainy afternoon, with the sound of raindrops tapping against the window, Hannah and her new foster siblings decided to build a fort in the living room. They gathered blankets and cushions, creating a magical hideaway. Inside the fort, they shared laughter, stories, and an endless supply of snacks. It was in that cozy space that Hannah felt an overwhelming sense of belonging.
As the months passed, the Johnsons became more than just a foster family; they became her family. Hannah discovered a passion for painting, often expressing her feelings through vibrant colors on canvas. Mrs. Johnson encouraged her creativity, often hanging Hannah’s artwork around the house. Every time Hannah saw her paintings displayed, she felt loved and appreciated.
However, Hannah still grappled with the uncertainty of her situation—wondering if she would have to leave this newfound happiness behind. One day, during a family meeting, the Johnsons surprised Hannah with heartfelt news. They wanted to adopt her! Tears of joy streamed down Hannah’s face as she realized she would finally have a permanent home filled with love.
In that moment, surrounded by her foster family, she knew she wasn’t just a temporary guest; she belonged. The future held infinite possibilities, and Hannah felt empowered to chase her dreams. As the years went by, Hannah flourished in her new family. With their support, she thrived in school and continued to develop her artistic talents.
Eventually, Hannah graduated high school with honors, her proud family cheering her on from the audience. As she stood on the stage, diploma in hand, she reflected on her journey. The love and support of the Johnsons had transformed her life. They taught her that family isn’t always about blood; it’s about the connections we build and the love we share.
With tears of joy in her eyes, Hannah realized that her time in foster care was not just a chapter of hardship, but a beautiful story of resilience, love, and new beginnings. She knew she would carry the lessons of hope and compassion with her as she stepped into the world, ready to make her mark. And so, Hannah lived happily ever after, thankful for her journey and the family that made her feel loved.

Growing up in a first-generation, low-income, single-parent household has cultivated within me a deep sense of resilience and unwavering ambition. My mother, an immigrant from Nigeria, tirelessly toiled day and night, embodying the essence of hard work and determination. Witnessing her sacrifices ignited an unquenchable flame within me, a passionate drive to pursue higher education and forge a brighter path for our family’s future.
I chose to study architecture because I firmly believe that the spaces we inhabit profoundly shape our identities, experiences, and aspirations. Architecture transcends the physical act of construction; it is a transformative art that involves designing environments that nurture connections, foster thriving communities, and inspire future generations. My vision is to create spaces that mirror the vibrant tapestry of our society, reflecting the sense of belonging and warmth my mother instilled within me.
As I embark on my college journey, I find myself representing a mere 15% of my program's student body, a stark statistic that underscores the persistent gender and racial disparities in the field of architecture. I aspire to be a guiding light, a beacon of hope and inspiration for the next generation of women of color, demonstrating that they, too, can illuminate their paths to bright futures in STEM careers.
I envision a world where young girls of color feel empowered to chase their dreams with unyielding confidence. I aim to connect aspiring architects with seasoned professionals through mentorship initiatives, bridging the gap between experience and aspiration. By sharing my journey, I hope to illustrate that resilience is indeed our superpower, a force that can help us navigate and overcome challenges together.
I am committed to advocating for diversity in architecture and championing robust support systems for women of color in both academia and the profession. Representation matters immensely, and I long to instill in aspiring architects the belief that they are not alone; they are part of a united and empowered community.
My goal is to make a significant impact in my community by designing inclusive spaces that celebrate and support underrepresented populations. I plan to organize engaging workshops and outreach programs to introduce architecture to diverse youth, igniting their curiosity and creative potential. By collaborating with local organizations and fostering mentorship, I hope to empower individuals to pursue their dreams and uplift their communities.
Through these initiatives, I am wholeheartedly devoted to being a guiding light for aspiring women of color in STEM careers. Together, we can cultivate a vibrant future where our voices resonate loudly, our stories are cherished, and our dreams are not just imagined but entirely realized. Let us rise, inspire one another, and build a world where every young architect can shine brightly, fearless in sketching their dreams into a vivid, tangible reality.

From a young age, my mother instilled me to stand up for those who were weaker and speak up for those who had no voices. As a devoted social work, my mother dedicated her career to helping those in need. I remember her leaving the house at odd hours of the night to attend to some disturbance at the homes of her clients. She set an expectation and a precedent for me, encouraging me to also dedicate my career to helping others.
Furthermore, I grew up in an underrepresented community, where I witnessed firsthand how marginalized groups were treated unequally. I saw how many had limited access to healthcare, education and employment. These experiences ignited my determination to make a change and help people in my community. I was determined to become a social worker like my mother, dedicated to improving the well-being of those around me.
I firmly believe that by fostering a sense of community and belonging, I can inspire others to join in this vital work, creating a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond individual cases. As a future social worker, I envision myself as a catalyst for change in the lives of individuals and communities. I aim to advocate for marginalized groups, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are addressed. Through my work, I plan to implement programs that promote mental health awareness, provide accessible resources, and facilitate connections to essential services.
My goals include implementing programs that implement mental health and care centers that provide food and essentials for struggling individuals. These will reduce disparities and provide and give individuals hope in life.
Therefore, I am committed to excelling in academics and looking for opportunities that could help me make my dreams a reality. This scholarship would allow me to continue my education in social work, an opportunity that I otherwise would not have. The ability to take my knowledge to the next level is very important to me, as I hope to use the knowledge gained from my degree to become a licensed social worker that deals with cases involving mental illness. As a driven individual with a passion for helping others. I know that my continued training in the field of social work will allow me to make a difference in the community by helping those who are often left behind. With steadiness and gratitude, I am eager to give back to society and continue my mothers great legacy.

In my life, the most significant figure supporting my educational journey is my mother, a beacon of strength and resilience. As an immigrant from Fuzhou China, my mother ventured into the United States filled with uncertainty but driven by fierce hope to provide a better life for me and my brother.
After my father abandoned us, my mother became a single mother. Additionally, the economic hardships and limited opportunities in her homeland made it clear that staying in her homeland would not provide a life she desired for me and my brother. With no family and financial support, she was left to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Everyday, I witnessed my mother‘s strength everyday as she worked multiple jobs tirelessly to provide a roof over our heads and hot food on the table. Despite the difficulties raising two children alone, she never once viewed me and my brother as a burdens.
Instead, she embraced us with love and determination.
Despite our circumstances, my mother instilled me a strong desire to strive for excellence in my academics. She understood that a higher education would improve the overall quality of my life. She taught me to take everything I do seriously and to be hardworking, which led me to become the founder of my school’s Badminton Club in my sophomore year. Before creating these clubs, I created a vision for these clubs so I can organize my responsibilities better as a leader. The more involved I became, the more I learned as a leader and as a person. As a leader, I carried the same resilience and determination my mother exemplified.
Her sacrifices run deep, and she never lets me forget how important it is to pursue my dreams. She encourages me to aim high, reminding me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to, no matter the obstacles in my way. Her unwavering support means the world to me; it gives me the strength to strive for excellence in everything I do.
As I step into my journey at college, I will carry my mother’s lessons with me—her determination, her resilience, her love, and her belief in a brighter future. I will honor my mother’s sacrifices by making the most of the opportunities she has fought so hard to provide. Her nearing support motivates me to chase my dreams boldly and strive for greatness everyday.

Born into a first generation, low-income family has never been easy, as we are the ones to pave the seeds to higher education. This has taught me to become an independent woman at a very young age, eventually becoming my own role model. I was clear of my goals and was determined to pursue them. Her dedication hers inspired me to take my studies seriously and strive for excellence in everything I do.
Despite our circumstances, my mother encouraged me to pursue my dreams, having missed her own chance for education due to supporting her family at a young age. I learned to take everything I do seriously and to put in all of my effort to complete tasks such as becoming the founder of my school’s Badminton Club in my sophomore year and Red Cross Club this year. Before creating these clubs, I created a vision for these clubs so I can organize my responsibilities better as a leader. The more involved I became, the more I learned as a leader and as a person. As a leader, I carried the same behavior I portrayed towards my younger cousins and siblings. My family members stressed the importance of being a good influence; as I adapted this behavior, I utilized this in my leadership positions. I learned to become a good role model by teaching my younger family members proper manners and guiding them in their academics so that they can do well. In school, I guided my peers in organizing team uniform designs and in networking with a nonprofit organization for service events. The more I was engaged in these roles, the more I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I learned how to adapt and improve to approaches, which allowed me to become the best version of myself.
Through my experiences and education, I plan to continue nonprofit organizations. Bridging gaps and giving those who are less privileged the same opportunity to education and empower to teach their dreams at their fullest potential.
As I step into my journey at college, I will bravely chase my dreams and will not let the shackles of fear minimize my journey at college. I will carry the hopes and dreams of my family with me, knowing that I am not only paving the way to higher education for myself, but also inspiring other first generation students. I am excited to enter this new chapter of my life and to define what is possible.
Empower Her Scholarship
Empowerment, to me, is about awakening to our deepest priorities and cherishing the moments that shape us. It was a night like no other, aboard a flight to Hong Kong. At 2 AM, a sudden crash jolted me awake. Panic surged through my veins as the plane hit the ground during takeoff. Heart racing, I instinctively leaped from my seat, rushing toward the emergency exit, every second feeling like an eternity.
Amid the chaos, my gaze fell upon an elderly lady lying helplessly on the floor—a striking contrast to the frantic rush around us. Without thinking, I reached for her, pulling her away from the clutches of tragedy. In those harrowing moments, I was fueled by a fierce determination to save her.
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime, the ambulance arrived, whisking the elderly lady and other injured passengers away. But the morning brought a heart-wrenching revelation: despite our escape, some passengers had succumbed to the ordeal, including the brave elderly lady I tried to save. My heart sank, a heavy weight settling over me.
Yet, in the depths of despair, a flicker of realization ignited within me. Surviving this calamity was not just a stroke of luck; it was a profound opportunity to reflect on my values. Questions began to bubble up in my mind: “What does my heart truly long for?” and “What do I prioritize in this fragile life?”
In my quest for meaning, I turned to the biographies of visionaries like Elon Musk. His journey of relentless perseverance in the face of failure resonated deeply with me. Each setback he faced became a stepping stone, a necessary detour on his path. I realized that my survival mirrored his experiences; resilience and fortitude are tested in life’s most challenging moments.
In school, we've often been conditioned to fear failure—to view it as a dark mark against us rather than a vital part of growth. Conformity can feel like a prison, and each misstep can seem like an endless abyss. But I have come to understand that each failure is a teacher, guiding us toward paths we may never have explored.
With a heart full of courage, I embrace the challenges ahead. No obstacle can overshadow the precious gift of life. As I set my sights on attending the University of California, I carry with me a newfound determination. This experience has paved the way for my adaptability to flourish in a new environment, as I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to learn and grow.
I approach college not with fear, but with an invigorated spirit. My journey will be one of positivity and resilience, fueled by the desire to cultivate new skills and expand my horizons. With an open heart, I will step onto campus ready to embrace challenges that align with my true essence, ready to transform what was once seen as a disability into my greatest strength.

The creation of my color pencil art piece depicting polar bears and sea creatures was deeply inspired by my studies in biology and my growing awareness of global warming. During a biology lesson on climate change, I learned about the serious effects that global warming has on our planet and its inhabitants. As I watched the film videos of sea creatures and polar bears during biology class, a wave of emotion stirred within me. I was heartbroken. The statistics and stories of how rising temperatures are threatening the survival of species, especially polar bears and various marine life, resonated deeply with me. The very real possibility of these majestic creatures losing their homes in the melting ice reflects a sense of urgency and desperation that I feel should be shared with the world.
Additionally, my experiences of suffering mental abuse as a child greatly influenced my perspective on this issue. I thought I was weak, which made me more vulnerable to the abuse from those who were stronger, namely my father. The plight of these animals reminded me of the countless nights filled with nightmares and fear, drawing a parallel between my struggles and the challenges faced by creatures perceived as less powerful. Much like imperialism, where the mightier impose their will on the weaker, these animals are often seen as inferior to humans. This connection highlights not only the vulnerabilities faced by wildlife but also how individuals may feel powerless against their circumstances.
Through my art, I hope to convey not only the urgency of climate change but also the powerful emotions tied to resilience and healing. My artistic process allows me to transform my pain into something beautiful, a reminder that even in the darkest times, there is potential for growth and change. I carefully choose colors and textures to evoke feelings of hope and concern, seeking to engage viewers in a dialogue about our responsibility to protect these fragile ecosystems.
By combining my passion for biology with my personal experiences, I strive to create pieces that not only raise awareness about environmental issues but also reflect the deep emotional connections we have with the natural world. I believe art has the power to inspire change, and through my work, I aim to encourage others to take action in the fight against climate change. Together, we can create a more compassionate world for both ourselves and other organisms that we share our earth with.

Prior to the pandemic, my life took a significant turn when my parents separated, and we transitioned into a single-parent household. My father disappeared of our lives and my mother was forced to raise three children by herself. My mother was overwhelmed by financial pressures, so she made a difficult decision to move to China. While this change was daunting, I tried to view it as an opportunity to learn more about my culture and language. As an American-born Chinese, I was not familiar with the culture and academic environment in China, which made the experience very challenging.
I enrolled in Xia Wei Private High School in Changle, China, where the academic atmosphere was highly competitive. Students were expected to meet rigorous academic standards and study extended hours. I quickly felt the weight of this pressure, especially since I was not proficient in Mandarin. However, my determination was fueled by my mother's dedication and tireless days working several jobs to put food on the table. I often felt the pressure of our situation, but I used it as motivation.
I dedicated countless hours to studying and committed myself to succeeding in this challenge. In class, I made sure I was engaged by asking questions and extending my study hours. When I felt demotivated, I maintained a tenacious grip by breaking down my larger goals into smaller goals. Outside of class, I worked a part time to alleviate the financial burdens at home.
Ultimately, my hard work paid off. I ranked 45 out of 360 students in my grade, a feat that filled me with pride and encouraged me to embrace challenges more openly. I was proficient in Mandarin. Adapting to the Chinese school system not only enriched my academic knowledge but also contributed to my personal growth. I learned the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, which has become a guiding principle as I pursue my academic interests in higher education.
This experience has taught me resilience and adaptability, qualities that I carry on as I continue my educational journey.
If I had the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program with inspire11, I would definitely take the opportunity. These programs provide free education tools, and resources to low income students. Inspire11 mentorship programs also collaborate with mentors who provide support. I believe that these programs will propel my academic and personal growth, helping me navigate challenges ahead with more confidence.

Prior to the pandemic, my parents separated, and our family became a single-parent household. My mother faced overwhelming financial pressure, which ultimately forced us to move to China. A knot of tension tightened in my stomach, despite trying to see this experience as an opportunity to learn my culture, but I was terrified. I am an American-born Chinese but was not familiar with the culture and academic environment in China, nor was I fluent in the language.
I attended Xia Wei Private High School in Changle, China. The academic atmosphere at the school was competitive and students were expected to meet rigorous academic standards. A constant sense of impending doom as I knew I wasn't proficient enough in Mandarin. However, my determination was fueled by my mother's dedication and tireless days working several jobs to put food on the table.
I was encouraged to take my studies seriously, as it would improve the overall quality of life and help me chase my dreams. My mother often reminded me that despite our circumstances, she would try her best to support me both financially and emotionally. Her unwavering faith motivated me to strive for excellence and warmed my heart.
I often felt the pressure of our situation, but I used it as motivation. A strong desire to reciprocate my mother’s sacrifice bloomed. I dedicated countless hours to studying and committed myself to succeeding in this challenge. In class, I made sure I was engaged by asking questions and extending my study hours. When I felt demotivated, I maintained a tenacious grip by breaking down my larger goals into smaller goals.
Ultimately, my hard work paid off. I ranked 45 out of 360 students in my grade and became proficient in Mandarin. By adapting to Chinese school, I enriched myself not only academically but personally. This achievement empowered my tolerance to the unknown and ambiguity, teaching me the impact of mental fortitude on capabilities. I am looking forward to exploring global issues and taking on leadership roles as I now pursue my academic interest in higher education.
As a step into my journey at college, I will carry my mother‘s lessons with me. Her dedication and relentless support empower me to explore global issues and take role in leadership. I see my education as an honor of her great sacrifices and a pathway to a brighter future. I am excited to enter this new
chapter of my life, knowing that I have my biggest supporter standing behind me.

Prior to the pandemic, my parents separated and we became a single-parent household. My mother could not bear the financial pressure and we had to move to China. A knot of tension tightened in my stomach, despite trying to see this experience as an opportunity to learn my culture, but I was terrified. I am an American-born Chinese but was not fluent in Chinese and familiar with the academic environment in China. I was filled with anxiety about my ability to succeed, particularly in Mandarin, a language I struggled to grasp. However, it was my math teacher, Mr. Yuan, whose significant encouragement made all the difference during this challenging transition.
Mr. Yuan was lenient and enthusiastic old man, who always had a bright smile on his face. While all the other teachers refused to believe in me, Mr. Yuan was the only teacher who believed in my potential.
From the moment I stepped into his classroom, I could feel his supportive energy. He recognized my struggles and took the time to connect with me personally. Whenever I felt hopeless and unconfident, Mr. Yuan was there to offer guidance and reassurance. He frequently reminded me that my background as an American-born Chinese student was an advantage, encouraging me to view my unique experiences as assets rather than obstacles.
In a time when I faced immense pressure to perform, Mr. Yuan’s words instilled a sense of hope. He created an inclusive atmosphere that fostered open communication, allowing me to express my concerns and thoughts without fear of judgment. He often encouraged me to ask questions and actively participate in discussions. With Mr. Yuan’s support, I began to engage more in class, which helped build my confidence.
Moreover, Mr. Yuan taught me the importance of resilience in the face of challenges. He would often share stories of his own experiences overcoming difficulties, which inspired me to persevere. When I struggled with assignments or felt overwhelmed by the rigorous academic standards, he was there to offer constructive feedback and encouragement. His belief in my abilities pushed me to work harder, helping me break down my larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks.
As I dedicated countless hours to studying Mandarin, I saw my efforts starting to pay off. Mr. Yuan’s encouragement was a constant source of motivation, pushing me to excel academically. Ultimately, I ranked 45 out of 360 students in my grade, and my newfound proficiency in Mandarin was a testament to the impact of his mentorship.
By adapting to the challenges of Chinese school, I not only enriched myself in a new language but also experienced personal growth. Mr. Yuan's unwavering support taught me the power of believing in oneself and the importance of hard work. His significant contribution to my journey has empowered me to embrace the unknown and develop the resilience needed for future challenges.
As I step in college, I am excited to explore global issues and take on leadership roles as I pursue my academic interests in higher education. I will face future challenges with resilience and enthusiasm. I am forever grateful to Mr. Yuan, whose belief in me illuminated my path and shaped my journey of self-discovery.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
The “Island of Secrets” challenge introduces an exciting twist to the Love Island experience by testing couples' trust, communication, and teamwork. Set against a vibrant beach backdrop adorned with colorful tents and tropical decorations, this challenge aims to deepen connections among islanders while unveiling hidden truths.
The challenge consists of several engaging rounds. The first round, “Secret Scavenger Hunt,” encourages couples to work together as they search for hidden tokens scattered across the beach. Each token represents a secret shared by one member of the couple with the group. Once the couple finds a token, they must guess which secret belongs to which islander, allowing them to engage in fun conversations about their fellow contestants.
Next, the challenge enters the “Truth or Dare Conundrum” round. Islanders take turns selecting a truth or dare card from a central treasure chest. This round fosters vulnerability and laughter as participants share personal truths, such as previous crushes, or undertake humorous dares, like dancing for one minute without caring about who watches. This interaction enhances connections among not just couples, but the entire group.
The final round, “Puzzle of Love,” requires couples to assemble a giant puzzle that reveals a romantic quote or personal message related to their relationship. As they piece together their love stories, they share heartfelt anecdotes and feelings, creating a more profound bond and mutual understanding.
At the conclusion of the challenge, the islanders gather around a bonfire. Each couple takes turns revealing a secret they learned about their partner during the challenge. They then vote for the most surprising revelation, with the winning couple rewarded with a romantic dinner by the beach.

"The Shawshank Redemption," directed by Darabont, is a film that resonates with many viewers, including myself. At its core, this powerful story centers around themes of hope, perseverance, and the quest for freedom in the face of daunting obstacles. The film is set in the oppressive environment of Shawshank State Penitentiary, where the main character, Andy Dufresne, is wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover. Over the years, Andy befriends fellow inmate Ellis “Red” Redding, and together, they navigate the harsh realities of prison life while holding on to their dreams of freedom.
This movie had a profound impact on my life because it emphasizes the importance of maintaining hope even in dark times. Andy's resilience and determination in an environment designed to break the spirit are truly inspiring. Every time I see him chase relentlessly after his dream of freedom, it reminds me of myself. I have faced my own struggles; I once escaped from my abusive father and endured significant mental challenges. Watching Andy’s journey moves me deeply and often brings me to tears, as it reflects my path toward healing and freedom.
The film illustrates that perseverance is key to overcoming obstacles. Andy's journey is not just about escaping prison; it's about breaking free from the mental barriers that hold us back. He spends years tirelessly working toward his goal, showing that true resilience lies not just in the pursuit of dreams but in the patience and effort it takes to achieve them. I relate to this struggle as I grappled with my challenges, yet through hope and determination, I am now entering college, ready to embrace new opportunities. This has inspired me to adopt a similar mindset in my own life. Every challenge I face, regardless of how insurmountable it may seem, can be approached with a spirit of tenacity and hope.
Red, as the narrator, provides a glimpse into the importance of friendship and human connection in overcoming life’s struggles. Through Andy and Red's bond, we learn that having someone to share our burdens with can make all the difference. This theme resonates deeply with me, reminding me of the love and support I have in my life.
"The Shawshank Redemption" serves as a reminder that hope and resilience are powerful tools in facing life's challenges and encourages our resilience no matter how daunting the road may appear. This timeless story continues to inspire and influence me, showing that true freedom lies in our ability to hope and dream, regardless of our surroundings.

Born into a first generation, single parent household has never been easy, as we are the ones to pave the seeds to higher education. This has taught me to become an independent woman at a very young age, eventually becoming my own role model. I looked after my younger siblings while my mother worked tireless days at multiple jobs to provide hot food on the table.
At 2 AM on the route to Hong Kong, I was jolted awake by the sudden crash of our plane as it hit the ground during takeoff. I jumped out of my seat and evacuated through the emergency exit, glimpsing terror through the corner of my eyes. Ka-boom! A second explosion followed shortly after we slid down the emergency exit. My heart hammered rapidly against my chest, each pulse echoing a rhythm I would remember for a lifetime. At this same moment, I spotted an elderly lady, laying desperately on the cement floor and quickly dragged her away from the tragedy. After 30 minutes, the ambulance arrived to take the elderly lady and other severely injured passengers. We were relocated in hotels, where in the morning we received the heartbreaking news that the elderly lady and other passengers had forever closed their eyes. My heart sank when I heard the news.
In the moment of despair, I saw my survival as an opportunity to shape my values. Internal monologues such as “ What does my heart want to pursue?” and “ What do I prioritize? ” welled up within me. Through the quest of value, I read multiple Elon Musk’s biographies and found inspiration to embrace failures. Musk's journey includes repeated failures, which are relevant to my survival since they both test resilience and fortitude. We are penalized in school for doing something wrong, where conformity is a prison and escape is an endless abyss. But each failure redirects us to a
more certain route than what is not. I will bravely overcome challenges, for no challenge is greater than the value of life.
As I plan on attending UCLA with this value in mind, I will bring over my courageous efforts to embrace failures. My adaptability will transfer to my disability to a new environment. I am positive, resilient, and will not let the shackles of fear minimize my journey at college. I will step on campus with the mind craving new challenges that will broaden my horizons and opportunities that align with my nature.
To anyone facing the same adversity, I would say: it’s definitely okay and normal to be scared. However, at the end we must view challenges as an opportunity for growth. In most of our most difficult times, we discover what we truly prioritize in life. Each failure is an opportunity for redirection and we should focus on positivity.

When I was ten, my mother told me to stand up for those who are weaker and speak up for those who had no voices. My mother was a social worker and told me to stand up for those that had no voices, and to defend those that are weaker. I remember her leaving the house at all odd hours of the night to attend to some disturbance at the homes of her clients. She set an expectation and a precedent for me, encouraging me to also dedicate my career to helping others. Furthermore, I grew up in an underrepresented community, where I witnessed firsthand how marginalized groups were treated unequally. Marginalized groups face limited access to healthcare, education and employment. These experiences compelled my force determination to make a change and help people in my community. I was determined to become a social worker like my mother, improving my community through care.
Throughout high school I’ve been volunteering as a therapist, hoping to empower them to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. Moreover, I collaborated with local organizations and stakeholders to create a network of support that fosters community resilience. My dedication to ongoing education in social work will equip me with the tools necessary to understand the complexities of systemic issues, allowing me to address the root causes of inequality. I firmly believe that by fostering a sense of community and belonging, I can inspire others to join in this vital work, creating a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond individual cases.
If I could start my own charity, I would create a community similar to a retirement community for those affected by mental illnesses, financially struggling, or are marginalized groups. I would like to establish a charity that provides “houses” for both families and adults living with these challenges, along with the proper mental care for these individuals, giving them hope in life. Psychologist, therapist, caregivers ,and social workers are welcome to volunteer at this community.
This scholarship will enable me to receive the additional specialized training I will need to complete my licensure. As a driven individual with a passion for helping others. I know that my continued training in the field of social work will allow me to make a difference in the community by helping those who are often left behind. With steadiness and gratitude, I am eager to give back to society and continue my mothers great legacy.

I am a survivor and resurgence. At 2 AM on the route to Hong Kong, I was jolted awake by the sudden crash of our plane as it hit the ground during takeoff. I jumped out of my seat and
evacuated through the emergency exit, glimpsing terror through the corner of my eyes. Ka-boom! A second explosion followed shortly after we slid down the emergency exit. My heart hammered rapidly against my chest, each pulse echoing a rhythm I would remember for a lifetime. At this same moment, I spotted an elderly lady, laying desperately on the cement floor
and quickly dragged her away from the tragedy.
” welled
up within me. Through the quest of value, I read multiple Elon Musk’s biographies and found inspiration to embrace failures. In Elon Musk’s journey he encounters multiple failures, but his resilience never lets failures stop him. We are penalized in school for doing something wrong,
where conformity is a prison and escape is an endless abyss. But each failure redirects us to a more certain route than what is not. I will bravely overcome challenges, for no challenge is greater than the value of life.
During this turbulent time, my faith and acted as a guiding light to life. It provided me the resilience to endure fear and despair. I turned to moments of reflection and fear, which allowed me helped me find peace in a moment that feels overwhelmingly over control. My faith reminding me that everything happens for a reason and that I am not alone. God will protect me and guide me through the darkest moments.
As I plan on attending the University of California, Los Angeles with this value in mind, I will bring over my courageous efforts to embrace failures. My adaptability will transfer to my disability to a new environment. I am positive, resilient, and will not let the shackles of fear minimize my journey at college. I will step on campus with the mind craving new challenges that will broaden my horizons and opportunities that align with my nature.

Growing up in a single-parent, low-income family made me understand the essence of independence and hard work right from childhood. My mother struggled with several jobs to keep my siblings and me comfortable, which influenced me to be serious about studies and excel in them. She had missed out on her educational opportunities but never refrained from encouraging me to pursue my dreams.
I became the founder of my school's Badminton Club in my sophomore year and the Red Cross Club in my junior year. By creating a vision for these clubs, I learned to organize my responsibilities as a leader. My leadership style echoes the care I give to my younger siblings because my family brought me up to be a good example to them. I led my peers through planning of team uniform designs, and most importantly, nonprofits in service events to find myself through knowing my strengths and weaknesses.
My goal is to use my leadership to serve my community by organizing workshops that promote inclusivity, such as leadership training for low-income children. I want to inspire them to be confident in their abilities and pursue their aspirations. I will further organize with local groups the provision of educational materials and mentorship for at-risk youth, building supportive networks and facilitating discussions on major issues affecting society.
I actively pursue my goals through attending leadership workshops, learning from experienced mentors, and committing to academic excellence. I dedicate time for study and continuously improve. With steadiness and gratitude, I am determined to get back to the society.

In the future, I hope to pursue my dream of becoming an architect by attaining a PHD, and to double major in civil engineering. Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care
When I was ten, my mother told me to stand up for those that had no voices, and to defend those that are weaker. My mother was a social worker, and I remember her leaving the house at all odd hours of the night to attend to some disturbance at the homes of her clients. She set an expectation and a precedent for me, encouraging me to also dedicate my career to helping others. Furthermore, I grew up in an underrepresented community, where I witnessed firsthand how marginalized groups were treated unequally. Marginalized groups face limited access to healthcare, education and employment. These experiences compelled my force determination to make a change. I was determined to become a social worker like my mother, improving my community through care.
By actively engaging with clients, I hope to empower them to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. Moreover, I will strive to collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to create a network of support that fosters community resilience.
This scholarship will enable me to receive the additional specialized training I will need to complete my licensure. As a driven individual with a passion for helping others. I know that my continued training in the field of social work will allow me to make a difference in the community by helping those who are often left behind. With steadiness and gratitude, I am eager to give back to society.

This scholarship will enable me to continue my training and education in the field. In my spare time, I volunteered as a counselor for a shelter in my community in order to put the concepts I learned in school into practice. I was extremely touched by my experiences working in the shelter, where I was faced with clients presenting symptoms ranging from despair to schizophrenia. In my capacity as a counselor, I helped to calm these clients down and get as much information as possible so that the shelter could help with their individual cases. As I step into my journey at college, I plan to continue to do such community outreach and intervention work, getting help to those that need it the most. In high school I also established a nonprofit where I can create internships for students who are interested in being social workers around the US, and allow them to travel to isolated communities around the world to help the unrepresented people. I strongly believe that everyone deserves equal rights and opportunities. I know that all my dreams would be a dream if I don’t complete my degree. The ability to take my knowledge to the next level is very important to me, as I plan to use the knowledge gained from my degree to become a licensed social worker.

As a low-income, first-generation college student pursuing a career in architecture, I have always been driven by a desire to create spaces that not only serve functional purposes but also enrich the lives of the people who inhabit them. My journey has been shaped by my experiences, particularly my time studying abroad in China, where I learned about diverse cultures and their approaches to infrastructure. This exposure has profoundly influenced my vision for the future and how I hope to impact others through my work.
Growing up in a low-income household, I faced numerous challenges that often made pursuing higher education seem like a distant dream. However, my passion for architecture ignited a fire within me to overcome these obstacles. I realized that architecture is not just about designing buildings; it is about understanding the needs of communities and creating environments that foster growth, connection, and well-being. As a first-generation college student, I hope to inspire others from similar backgrounds to pursue their dreams, showing them that it is possible to break barriers and achieve success.
My experience studying in China opened my eyes to the rich tapestry of architectural styles and urban planning strategies that exist around the world. I was fascinated by how different cultures approach infrastructure, often blending tradition with modernity. This understanding has equipped me with a broader perspective on design, allowing me to appreciate the importance of cultural context in architecture. I aspire to incorporate these lessons into my work, creating spaces that honor local traditions while also addressing contemporary needs.
I believe that architecture has the power to transform lives. By focusing on sustainable and affordable design, I aim to create homes and community spaces that are accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic background. My goal is to work on projects that prioritize the needs of marginalized communities, ensuring that they have access to safe and healthy living environments. I want to be a voice for those who are often overlooked in the design process, advocating for their needs and aspirations.
In conclusion, my journey as a low-income, first-generation architecture student has shaped my vision for the future. I am committed to using my skills and experiences to create positive change in the world. By designing inclusive and sustainable spaces, I hope to uplift communities and inspire future generations to dream big, no matter their circumstances. Through architecture, I believe I can make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, one building at a time.

Prior to the pandemic, my parents separated, transforming our household into a single-parent home. My mother, struggling to cope with the financial burden, made the difficult decision for us to relocate to China. Initially, I perceived this move as a daunting ordeal. I felt a knot of apprehension firmly lodged in my belly, grappling with the uncertainties ahead.
As an American-born Chinese, I had some familiarity with my cultural roots, yet I was acutely aware of my limited knowledge regarding life and education in China. I was placed in Xia Wei Private School in Changle, which presented an academic environment that was both competitive and demanding. The rigorous standards left me feeling overwhelmed, especially since I was not proficient in Mandarin. A sense of impending doom often overshadowed my days, but my determination was ignited by the unwavering dedication of my mother. She worked tirelessly, juggling multiple jobs to provide for us, and her resilience became my inspiration.
Though the pressure of our circumstances weighed heavily on me, I chose to harness that weight as motivation. Each day, as I woke to the rising sun, I reminded myself of the potential for a new beginning. Much like the sun that illuminates the world, I started each day charged with energy and the resolve to face whatever challenges lay ahead. To succeed academically, I spent countless hours reading and dedicating myself to my studies. I engaged actively in class, asked questions, and embraced my mistakes as learning opportunities.
In doing so, I stumbled upon my passion for architecture. The unique environment around me sparked my interest in architectural projects, blending historical and modern constructions in China. I eagerly explored this newfound passion by reading books and watching documentaries that delved into architectural concepts and innovations. This exploration ignited a desire within me to contribute to this field in a meaningful way.
As I write this, I am fully committed to pursuing a career as an architect. My long-term goal is to design eco-friendly structures that harmonize with the environment and elevate the quality of neighborhoods. I aspire to create buildings that can offer respite from the impacts of climate change, providing relief from the increasing heat and ensuring safety for communities.
Beyond that, I dream of leading international projects that tackle urbanization and promote eco-sustainability. I hope to blend my experiences and multicultural perspectives to design spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also environmentally responsible.
Through my journey in China, I have learned that obstacles can be transformed into opportunities. With every sunrise, I am reminded of the energy and possibility that awaits me, motivating me to chase my dreams and make a positive impact in the world.

Prior to the pandemic, my life took a significant turn when my parents separated, and we transitioned into a single-parent household. My mother, overwhelmed by financial pressures, made the difficult decision to move us to China. While this change was daunting, I tried to view it as an opportunity to learn more about my culture and language. As an American-born Chinese, I had little familiarity with the culture and academic environment in China, which made the experience both exciting and terrifying.
I enrolled in Xia Wei Private School in Changle, China, where the academic atmosphere was highly competitive. Students were expected to meet rigorous academic standards, and I quickly felt the weight of this pressure, especially since I was not proficient in Mandarin. However, my determination to succeed was fueled by my mother’s dedication and tireless work ethic. She worked multiple jobs to provide for us, and I often felt the burden of our situation. Instead of letting this pressure overwhelm me, I used it as motivation to push myself harder.
I dedicated countless hours to studying, often staying up late to ensure I understood the material. In class, I made it a point to engage actively by asking questions and seeking help when needed. When I felt demotivated, I broke down my larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This approach made the challenges less overwhelming and allowed me to celebrate small victories along the way.
Ultimately, my hard work paid off. I ranked 45 out of 360 students in my grade, a feat that filled me with pride and encouraged me to embrace challenges more openly. Adapting to the Chinese school system not only enriched my academic knowledge but also contributed to my personal growth. I learned the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, which has become a guiding principle as I pursue my academic interests in higher education.
During my time in China, I also discovered a newfound appreciation for my heritage. The vibrant culture and rich history of the country inspired me to explore design elements that blend traditional and modern aesthetics. I began sketching architectural concepts that reflect this fusion, igniting my passion for creating spaces that tell stories. I found myself captivated by the intricate designs of ancient temples and the sleek lines of contemporary buildings. This exploration deepened my connection to art and architecture, and I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in this field.
This experience taught me resilience and adaptability, qualities that I carry into my pursuit of higher education. I am excited to bring my unique perspective to college, where I can further develop my skills and contribute to the world of architecture and design. I believe that my background and experiences will allow me to approach challenges creatively and thoughtfully. I look forward to collaborating with others who share my passion and to learning from professors who can guide me on this journey. My goal is to create spaces that not only serve a function but also resonate with the stories and emotions of those who inhabit them.

I am currently majoring in Architecture. Growing up in a low-income single-parent household, I witnessed my mother’s relentless struggle to provide hot food on the table. She worked countless hours, often taking on multiple late shifts. Her sacrifices were not just a backdrop to my childhood; they were the driving force behind my determination to succeed.
As a child, I often felt the weight of our financial struggles. There were times when I would lie awake at night, worrying about bills and wondering if we would have enough to get by. But instead of letting these fears consume me, I channeled them into motivation. I took on a part-time job as a tutor while balancing my schoolwork. This was not just a way to earn money; it was my way of contributing to our family and paying homage to my mother’s hard work.
Balancing my responsibilities was incredibly challenging. I would often find myself exhausted after a long day of classes, yet I knew I had to push through. I dedicated countless hours to studying advanced courses, often sacrificing my social life and personal time. There were nights when I would fall asleep with my textbooks open, dreaming of a better future. Each late night and early morning was a testament to my commitment to my education and my family.
These experiences have shaped me into a resilient individual. I learned that hard work and perseverance can lead to success, even in the face of adversity. I developed a deep sense of empathy for others who struggle, and I realized the importance of community support. I want to create spaces that uplift and inspire, especially for those who have faced similar challenges. I believe that architecture has the power to transform lives, and I want to be a part of that transformation.
My determination to succeed is not just for myself; it is for my mother and for all the sacrifices she made. I want to create affordable housing and community spaces that are accessible to everyone, especially those who have faced financial hardships. I envision a world where everyone has a safe and beautiful environment to call home.
In addition to my academic goals, I aspire to mentor young students in my community. I want to share my story and encourage them to pursue their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. I want them to know that their circumstances do not define their potential.
In conclusion, my journey has been filled with challenges, but it has also been a source of strength. I am committed to using my education and experiences to create positive change in my community. Through architecture, I hope to build a brighter future for myself and for those who come after me.

I plan to use my college education in architecture to give back to my community by focusing on improving infrastructure in small, underfunded areas like the one I grew up in. Having experienced the challenges of living in a community with limited resources, I understand how a lack of proper infrastructure can impact daily life. My goal is to create spaces that not only meet the needs of residents but also inspire pride and a sense of belonging.
As an architect, I aim to design affordable housing, community centers, and public spaces that are functional, beautiful, and accessible. I believe that everyone deserves well-designed environments that enhance their quality of life. By prioritizing sustainable and cost-effective solutions, I hope to make a lasting impact on my community and help those who have faced financial struggles.
In addition to my architectural work, I want to mentor young students in my community, particularly those who may feel discouraged about pursuing higher education. I will share my journey and provide guidance, helping them navigate their own paths to success. By fostering a supportive environment, I hope to inspire future generations to dream big and pursue careers in fields like architecture, engineering, and design.
Ultimately, my goal is to create spaces that foster community engagement and support local needs. I want to uplift those who, like me, have faced financial hardships and ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive. Through my education and future career, I aim to be a catalyst for positive change, transforming my community into a place where everyone can flourish.

My Asian American background is a significant part of my identity and shapes how I view the world. Both of my parents are immigrants who came to this country with dreams of a better life. They faced numerous challenges, including language barriers and the lack of a college education. Growing up, I witnessed their struggles firsthand. They worked tirelessly, often taking on multiple jobs to provide for our family. Their dedication and resilience taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance.
Living in a household where English was not the first language made communication difficult at times. I often found myself translating for my parents, whether it was at school meetings or during doctor visits. This experience made me realize how vital language and education are in navigating life in a new country. It also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the opportunities that education can provide. I saw how my parents' lack of a college degree limited their job prospects and, in turn, our family's financial stability. This motivated me to pursue higher education, not just for myself, but to honor their sacrifices and dreams.
I want to pursue higher education because I believe it is the key to unlocking a brighter future. I want to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in my chosen field and to make a positive impact in my community. Education is not just about obtaining a degree; it is about learning how to think critically, solve problems, and contribute to society. I hope to use my education to advocate for issues that matter to me, such as social justice and equal opportunities for all.
Moreover, I want to be a voice for those who face similar struggles as my family did. I understand the challenges that come with being an immigrant and the importance of representation in higher education. I aspire to create a supportive environment for others who may feel marginalized or overlooked. By pursuing higher education, I aim to bridge cultural gaps and foster understanding among diverse communities.
In conclusion, my Asian American background and my parents' immigrant journey have profoundly influenced my desire to pursue higher education. I want to honor their sacrifices, gain valuable knowledge, and use my education to make a difference in the world. I believe that through education, I can create a better future for myself and contribute positively to my community.
