I aspire to be a neurosurgeon one day to help people like my brother who passed away from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. My fascination with the brain started at a young age because of him and now I try my best to make him proud.

I aspire to be a neurosurgeon one day. I am extremely passionate for the field of neuroscience because my brother passed away from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. My family will never been the same same without him. This has been a major life altering event in my life so far and I hope that other people never have to experience this in their lives.
I grew up with six siblings and have always admired everyone in my family for all they do to help each other. We keep each other grounded and make sure to take care of everyone. They have always been there for me and I hope to be there for them and make them proud.
As a first generation Hispanic student, college life has not been easy. I had a hard time adjusting to college because of the lack of knowledge I had in regards to the entire process. However, I have been able to adapt and learn how to thrive in the college environment while also maintaining my mental health. I've truly learned how to balance my personal and work/school life. As a neuroscience and psychology double major, I've learned the importance of time management. I wouldn't be where I am today without the help I've received from my amazing and supportive family.
This summer, I have the opportunity to. perform research at Boston's Children Hospital in an Epilepsy based laboratory. I believe this will be an amazing opportunity on the way to my future career in medicine. I will be able to learn about something I am truly passionate about and hopefully make a mark on people with epilepsy.
Unfortunately, it is an unpaid internship and I won't be able to afford the cost of living by myself. My family also can not afford to help me pay to live in Boston this summer which is making it difficult to accept this position. This scholarship will allow me to take full advantage of this opportunity and use these funds to support myself throughout the summer. I will utilize this money and take advantage of every single penny. I believe education is truly something so special and something many can not afford. I hope that you will allow me to receive this scholarship to help me offset any financial costs associated with interning in Boston this summer. I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you for your time and consideration.
