    Healing Self and Community Scholarship
My mission is deeply rooted in empowering young Black individuals, especially those facing unstable family situations or generational challenges, to navigate their mental health journeys successfully. Drawing from my own experiences and struggles, I am committed to breaking the cycle of limited access to mental health care within my community. My unique contribution lies in creating a comprehensive support network tailored specifically for teenagers transitioning from high school to adulthood. Through community workshops, online resources, and partnerships with local organizations, I aim to provide accessible mental health education, coping strategies, and resources. One possible way is leveraging technology to develop a user-friendly mobile app that offers free counseling sessions, mindfulness exercises, and educational materials. Specifically tailored to the students I teach if they feel meeting in person isn’t the best thing for them. This platform will bridge the gap between those in need and professional mental health services. Additionally, I would like to collaborate with mental health professionals and organizations to establish low-cost clinics within underserved neighborhoods. These clinics will offer affordable therapy sessions, support groups, and workshops, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to receiving necessary care. By addressing the specific challenges faced by young Black women and men, I hope to create a scalable model that can be adapted and implemented in other communities, ultimately making mental health care universally affordable and accessible for anyone seeking support.
