I want to make people feel. Our world needs to feel again, and theatre tells a story and displays emotions in ways that daily words could not even reach, ultimately moving an audience to feel deep and vulnerable emotions otherwise untouched through the arts. My name is Hannah Hansen, and I have a deep passion for the arts, specifically musical theatre. I have trained in my craft for 14 years through vocal lessons, dance lessons, acting workshops, and acting coaching. During my junior career as a performer, I've participated in over 18 performances. My ultimate dream is to build a professional career after college (National Tour, Broadway, West End, etc.). Some may say that the dream of professional theatre is unattainable or silly, but if your dreams aren't scaring you, you are not dreaming big enough. Big dreamers who are also doers can accomplish anything if they work hard enough. After my professional career, my next dream, and most exciting dream, is to teach high school students like myself about the craft of theatre. Whether directing at a community theatre or teaching a high school drama class, I want to pour into kids' lives and mentor them in a way that my theatre mentors have poured into me. The arts are underappreciated and unloved in most high schools, and I want to be a solid rock for the young adults in theatre aspiring to dream big, just as I did at their age. I am currently a high school senior involved in my arts community through school and community theatre. I had the opportunity to fight for the arts program at my school when it was threatened to be downsized, arranging and leading a meeting with the headmaster of my school, proving the importance of the theatre program and its impact on the lives of creatives. I have learned so much about leadership in my community through leading drama clubs and learning from professionals. I have sung for charity events, showcases, and special events in my community, which have taught me that there are many opportunities to reach people, and I have received so much positive feedback supporting my dream of making people feel deep, vulnerable emotions through my craft as a theatre artist. If I could do one thing in my community, It would be to prove that the arts, especially theatre, are essential and should not be cut or downsized but supported and loved because of the immense impact the arts have in the lives of high schoolers. Music has impacted my life by providing an outlet for me to express my innermost emotions and feelings through playing a character. Genuinely, I feel most like myself pretending to be someone else on stage. I have such a deep love for theatre and the beautiful window to the soul it is. Sharing struggles and triumphs on stage is the most rewarding and sweet thing I have been able to do in my lifetime. Theatre has impacted my life because it is truly where I feel the most at home. Ultimately, I am passionate about pursuing theatre because I want to make a difference in the theatre world by allowing people to have a space to be seen, heard, and loved. As I plan to teach high school students in theatre, I hope to be their safe space, where they feel the most loved. As I perform, I hope to touch the hearts of audience members and make a lasting impact on their lives through the beautiful emotions they feel when hearing a vocal performance or watching a musical.
