My name is Hanna Baham, and I am an aspiring public health professional with a passion for using education and policy to create lasting, positive change in underserved communities. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology and Public Policy at Louisiana State University Shreveport. My academic journey, combined with my professional experiences as an educator, operations manager, and mentor, has equipped me with a unique perspective on the systemic challenges that many communities face. These experiences have instilled in me a profound commitment to addressing disparities in healthcare, education, and disaster relief.
Throughout my career, I have witnessed firsthand the critical role that effective policies and community-based initiatives play in transforming lives. Working as an educator at East Baton Rouge Parish Schools and tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club and Glasgow Middle School has allowed me to see the impact that dedicated support can have on students from low-income and underserved backgrounds. These experiences not only solidified my desire to pursue public health but also taught me the importance of empathy, perseverance, and community engagement. They serve as a constant reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger, transformative impact on society.
My vision for making a positive impact centers on the creation and implementation of innovative public policies that address some of our most pressing challenges. I am particularly passionate about improving Black maternal healthcare, developing comprehensive disaster relief programs, and reforming education systems to ensure equitable opportunities for all. By leveraging my academic training, I plan to collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and policymakers to develop strategies that reduce disparities and promote holistic well-being. For instance, by advocating for better maternal healthcare practices, I hope to reduce the alarming rates of Black maternal mortality and ensure that every family has access to quality, compassionate care.
Moreover, my commitment to service extends beyond the classroom and into everyday life. I firmly believe that leadership is best demonstrated through action. That is why I actively seek opportunities to mentor and educate others. Whether I am designing specialized lesson plans for students with unique needs or analyzing data to optimize operational processes, I consistently strive to make a tangible difference. I envision a future where my work not only improves public health outcomes but also inspires future generations to value education, empathy, and resilience.
In essence, my goal is to be a catalyst for systemic change—one that empowers families and communities to overcome challenges and thrive. Through my career in public health, I aim to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world solutions, ensuring that every policy I advocate for is grounded in compassion, equity, and evidence-based practices. By doing so, I hope to leave a legacy of improved healthcare, enhanced educational opportunities, and stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.
