I have been to over 10 separate prison systems before the age of 15. I was not the one incarcerated, but my father was. Since the age of 4, my father has been in and out of prison. I remember a specific time he got arrested. It was after my kindergarten graduation right in front of my school with all of my classmates and their parents watching. He has since then decided to keep making the same mistakes which has led to not only him being in prison time and time again but also has put a strain on our relationship. Growing up with a parent in and out of prison has had a profound impact on my life. The emotional rollercoaster, the uncertainty, and the challenges that came with such a situation has shaped my perspective in ways that are both complex and deeply impactful. From a young age, the absence of a consistent father figure due to his incarceration created a void in my life. This absence led to feelings of abandonment, confusion, and a longing for guidance and support that only a father can provide. The lack of a stable parental presence left a lasting imprint on my emotional development, affecting my self-esteem, sense of security, and trust in others. Moreover, the stigma and shame associated with having a parent in prison can be isolating and challenging to navigate. It led to feelings of embarrassment, secrecy, and a reluctance to open up to others about my family situation. The fear of judgment from peers and society at large added an extra layer of complexity to an already difficult circumstance. The financial strain that often accompanies a parent's incarceration also had a significant impact on my family. The loss of income, the burden of legal fees, and the challenges of maintaining stability in the household creates stress and uncertainty. These financial struggles trickle down to affect various aspects of daily life, from access to basic necessities to opportunities for education and personal growth. The knowing that my father would not be there for any of my games, banquets, dances, or any other pivotal moments in my young life. He taught me how to be a great athlete yet he will not be there to see me be the athlete that I had turned into. The accepting that he will not only miss all of the events growing up, but also the events in my adult life because of the relationship that was lost along the way. It truly is sad that I will not be able to have a father to watch me graduate college, walk me down the aisle at my wedding, or get to meet his grandchildren in the near future. When I was younger, I didn’t understand what was going on with my father’s situation. I grew up being a daddy’s girl and was just sad that my father was always gone. I remember growing up as a little girl, I held on to hate for my mother and blamed her for my father being gone. I thought that she was behind his absence and took it out on her often. As I grew up and matured, I realized that my mother had nothing to do with it. It was his own reckless actions that were the direct causes of his many incarcerations. Blaming my mother my whole life is one of my biggest regrets to this day. On a personal level, witnessing my father’s struggles with the legal system and the consequences of his actions led to a mix of emotions, including anger, resentment, and empathy. Understanding the complexities of the criminal justice system at a young age has shaped my views on justice, fairness, and consequences. It has also instilled in me a sense of resilience and determination to break free from the cycle of adversity that has touched my life. Navigating relationships with a parent who is in and out of prison can be challenging and emotionally draining. The constant cycle of hope, disappointment, and readjustment created a sense of emotional whiplash, making it difficult to establish a stable and trusting connection. The strain on how I was perceived by outsiders, the shifting roles within the household, and the impact on relationships within the family further complicated an already delicate situation. Dealing with the ups and downs of having my father in and out of prison really took a toll on me emotionally and mentally. It's tough not having that consistent presence and support from a parent, especially during crucial moments in my life. The feelings of abandonment, confusion, and longing for guidance was overwhelming at times. Going through the rollercoaster of having my dad in and out of prison has truly shaped who I am today. It's been a tough journey, filled with ups and downs, but it's also been a journey of growth and resilience. The challenges I've faced have taught me the importance of empathy, understanding, and acceptance. Witnessing my father's struggles has made me more compassionate towards others who are going through difficult times. Dealing with the financial strain and emotional turmoil has made me appreciate the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family support. It has taught me to cherish the moments of togetherness and to never take them for granted. Through these experiences, I've learned to be strong, independent, and to always seek the silver lining in every situation. My father and I do not have a strong relationship to this day. Although it makes me sad, it has taught me that people who truly put the in the effort to love me and to be better for me are the people that I need to keep around. I am not my father and I will strive everyday to have a great life for not only myself but for my future family.

Growing up, facing the challenges of my parents struggling with addiction and having to move in with my nana not just once but twice must have been incredibly tough. These experiences undoubtedly tested my strength and resilience at a young age. However, it is through these hardships that I found the inner courage and determination to become the person I am today. The first time I had to move in with my nana due to my parents' struggles with addiction was a confusing and emotionally challenging period because of how young I was. I did not understand my parent’s battle with such difficult issues. The second time I had to move in with my nana due to my parents' struggles with addiction however, was a disheartening and angry period because I was much older. I felt betrayed because I thought that the period of me switching back and forth between houses was over. I remember wondering why I was not good enough for them and why they did not want to change for me.But instead of letting these circumstances define me, I chose to rise above them. Moving in with my nana was a turning point, a moment that forced myself to adapt and grow in ways I thought possible. Living with my nana provided me with stability, love, and a sense of security that might have been missing during those tumultuous times. Her presence in my life, her unwavering support, and her guidance played a crucial role in shaping my values and beliefs. Through her example, I learned the importance of resilience, kindness, and perseverance in the face of adversity. I refused to let the circumstances dictate my future. Instead, I took control of my own path, determined to create a better life for myself despite the obstacles in my path. These experiences, though undoubtedly difficult, have shaped me into a person of remarkable resilience and strength. They have instilled in me a sense of empathy, understanding, and a deep appreciation for the value of family and support systems. My ability to turn hardship into motivation is a testament to my character and determination. As I navigated the complexities of growing up in less than ideal circumstances, I found solace in my nana's love and guidance. Her presence in my life served as a beacon of hope, a constant reminder that no matter the challenges I faced, I was never alone. Through her wisdom and care, I learned to embrace my past, accept my present and look towards a brighter future. My nana's unwavering support and love have been the foundation upon which I built my resilience and determination. Her presence in my life provided me with the strength and guidance needed to overcome the obstacles that came my way. The struggles my parents faced with addiction and the subsequent impact on my life could have easily derailed my path. However, I chose to use these challenges as stepping stones towards personal growth and self-improvement. My experiences have undoubtedly shaped my perspective on life and instilled in myself a deep sense of empathy and understanding. The lessons learned from my past have motivated me to strive for a better version of myself, not just for my own sake but also for those around me.

      Met Gala Masterpiece Scholarship
Although there have been many notable Met Gala themes and years such as “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” (2022) and “Camp: Notes on Fashion” (2019), one Met Gala theme and year sticks out to me. The 2018 Met Gala, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, holds a special place in my heart. Being on theme is a big factor for me to decide if I like a certain Met Gala or not and the 2018 Met Gala did not disappoint. This specific Met Gala inspired many unique outfits and offered intricate thoughts. I love how it combined the extrovert, sometimes immodest world of fashion with the strict, conservative world of the Catholic Church. It is very difficult to pick a favorite outfit from this year when there are notable outfits from people such as Blake Lively, Cardi B, Zendaya, and Rhiana. But if I had to choose a favorite outfit from this event, it would be Ariana Grande. Not only is she and the dress beyond beautiful, the religious aspects tied to the dress itself make it much more notable. The dress was made up of images from Michelangelo’s fresco, The Last Judgement, which was painted on the walls of the Sistine Chapel. Grande also wore a headpiece that resembles a wedding veil. All in all, Ariana’s entire look truly embodied the year’s theme and she looked great in it. I would also like to give a special shout out to another outfit. Men typically do not abide by the theme at the Met and instead wear a plain, simple black and white tux. Personally, I believe this is rather lazy and boring. That being said, Chadwick Boseman completely showed out. I love how he was not afraid to break away from the idea that men need to dress “masculine” and not have any fun designs or details on their outfits. Boseman wore a white suit detailed with many crosses and intricate designs. Chadwick completed his look with gold shoes and a cape. Not only does this fit the theme, it is stunning and truly makes a mark on the carpet. If you couldn’t guess by now, my least favorite outfits are the plain tuxedos that many of the men wear. The Met Gala is supposed to be this extravagant event to celebrate fashion and to help fundraise for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The most famous and well-known people get invited to this exclusive event and I think it is almost disrespectful that some people barely put in effort into what they wear. Although some women do this, it is predominantly men who show up in a boring tuxedo that they would wear to any other fancy event. Sometimes, they will try to accessorize them with jewelry or different colored shoes but it will still always be a boring tuxedo to me. Although many men do this, I will use Cole Swindell as an example from the 2018 Met Gala. In conclusion, the 2018 Met Gala is my favorite Met Gala so far because of the theme and outfits. Many people showed out that year but Ariana Grande and Chadwick Boseman had the best outfits by far and the people who wore plain outfits were the worst outfits. I cannot wait to see the many Met Gala looks in the years to come.

The Hunger Games trilogy is an incredible book to film adaptation. It truly bridged the gap between reading and viewing experiences in such a captivating way. First of all, the casting for the films was spot-on. Jennifer Lawrence brought Katniss Everdeen to life in such a powerful and authentic way. She perfectly captured Katniss's strength, vulnerability, and determination. From Josh Hutcherson as Peeta to Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, each actor portrayed their character with such depth and brought the story to life. The visuals in the films were absolutely stunning. The dystopian world of Panem was brought to life with such attention to detail, from the lavish Capitol to the impoverished Districts. The cinematography and special effects were top-notch, making the action sequences and the Games themselves incredibly intense and thrilling to watch. One of the most impressive aspects of the adaptation was how it stayed true to the essence of the books. They captured the quiet moments of reflection, the emotional conversations, and the internal struggles of the characters. These moments added depth and richness to the story and made it feel more complete. The soundtrack of the films also deserves a special mention. The music perfectly complemented the tone and atmosphere of the story, enhancing the emotional impact of the scenes. From the haunting "The Hanging Tree" to the inspiring "Safe & Sound," the music added another layer of depth to the viewing experience. One of the most significant achievements of The Hunger Games adaptation was its ability to spark important conversations and raise awareness about social and political issues. The story's themes of inequality, oppression, and the abuse of power resonate with audiences worldwide. The films served as a platform to shed light on these issues and encouraged viewers to think critically about the world around them. Moreover, the adaptation introduced the story to a broader audience. While the books had already gained a massive following, the films brought The Hunger Games to the attention of even more people. The Hunger Games franchise, with its thrilling storyline and thought-provoking themes, has left a lasting impression on fans of all ages. For me, it seems to have resonated on a deeper level. One of the most significant impacts the Hunger Games has had on my life is how it has sparked my passion for social justice and activism. The dystopian world depicted in the series, where the Capitol oppresses the districts, serves as a powerful metaphor for real-world social and political issues. Through the eyes of Katniss Everdeen, I have witnessed the importance of standing up against injustice and fighting for a better world. The character of Katniss herself has become a role model for me. Her strength, resilience, and determination in the face of adversity has inspired me to face my own challenges head-on. I have learned the value of courage, compassion, and the power of one person to make a difference. Moreover, the Hunger Games franchise has also impacted my perspective on the media and its influence on society. The way the Capitol uses the Games as a means of control, manipulating the narrative and distorting reality, has made me more aware of the importance of critical thinking and questioning the information presented to me. It has encouraged me to seek the truth and form my own opinions, rather than blindly accepting what is fed to me. Another way the Hunger Games has made a significant impact on my life is through its portrayal of strong female characters. The series showcases the strength, intelligence, and resilience of women like Katniss, Prim, and Johanna. Witnessing their bravery and determination has empowered me to embrace my own strengths as a woman and to challenge societal expectations. From the very beginning, my mom has shown me what it means to be strong. Financial limitations have been a part of our journey, but my mom has never allowed them to dampen our spirits. Spider-Man Showdown Scholarship
In my opinion, all of the actors have done a great job in their roles and have specific strengths in their character. With that being said, I believe that Tom Holland's Spiderman is the best out of the three live action Spidermans. Tobey Maguire was an excellent Peter Parker while Andrew Garfield was an amazing Spiderman- as the movie would suggest. I think Tom Holland perfectly executed both roles of Peter Parker and Spiderman. He brought such a fresh and youthful energy to the character, capturing Peter's wit, charm, and awkwardness perfectly. Tom's portrayal of Peter's journey from a wide-eyed high school student to a superhero facing immense challenges was truly captivating. He brought depth and vulnerability to the role, making the viewers feel connected to Peter's struggles and triumphs. He also brought so much energy, charisma, and athleticism to the role, making Spider-Man come to life in the most incredible way. Tom's portrayal showcased the agility, strength, and quick-wittedness that we all love about the web-slinging hero. Whether he was swinging through the city or taking on villains, Tom's performance was filled with excitement and intensity. He truly embraced the essence of Spider-Man and gave us a fresh and captivating take on the beloved character. Most importantly, I believe Tom perfectly executed both characters in the final decisions that his character faced at the end of "Spiderman: No Way Home". His character makes the tough decision for everyone to forget who he is so that the world will be safe. Through this decision, his friends, girlfriend, and anyone who ever knew or cared about him completely forgot who he is. Even though he promised to remind his loved ones of who he is, he ultimately decides not to because he did not want to put them in harm's way. He is left completely alone at the end and I think this embodies the definition of being a hero. He sacrificed everything to protect the world and the ones he loves. Tom brings many emotions throughout this performance that makes the viewers feel pain and sorrow for the loved character. Many tears were shed watching the last few scenes that we have seen of Spiderman in the Marvel Universe. Overall, I believe all of the Spidermans have done a wonderful job with their characters but Tom Holland portrayal has been the strongest. He perfectly embodies the role of Peter Parker and Spiderman while adding emotion and character to them as well.
      Resilient Scholar Award
Growing up with a single mom and limited financial resources can be tough, but it's also a testament to the strength and resilience of both me and my mom. During my childhood, my father stayed in and out of prison so my mom worked very hard to fill the void of my missing parent. Life can throw some curveballs, but my mom has shown me the importance of perseverance, determination, and making the most of what you have. Despite the challenges, I have learned valuable life lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today. Living with financial constraints can sometimes lead to feelings of insecurity, and I often fell victim to these thoughts. I always wondered why I didn't live in a nice house, have toys like my friends, or have tasty foods like most kids I knew. These thoughts would lead to me feeling insecure about my home life and blaming my mom even though she was the reason I had anything at all. I would tell her that I wish I was with my father because he would give me a better life. I have many regrets of how I treated my mom growing up and have since apologized because I realized how much she did for me through the many challenges of being a single parent. My mom's love, support, and guidance have been invaluable throughout my journey. She's taught me the importance of resilience and the power of a strong spirit. I would not be the person that I am today if it weren't for her. My moment of realization hit when I watched the movie, "The Pursuit of Hapyness". The movie is about a father and his son who are extremely poor and the father does everything to support his son and give him a better life. As I watched this movie, I realized that my mom was doing the same thing my entire childhood while my father did nothing but send a letter on the holidays. I had finally realized that my mom supported me while putting her own life and happiness at stake. I made a promise to her and myself that I would work hard to achieve a better life for myself and my mom. No amount of money will ever make up for what she went through, but I believe her knowing that I am happy and successful will make all of her hard work mean something in the end. Having a successful future will not only make my mom happy, it will also provide a better life for my future family. My main goal for my future is to have a happy family and to give them a better life than I had growing up. I will take my experiences growing up in a low-income house and the advice from my single mother and put that towards raising my own family. The future is bright and I will continue to strive for the top.

      GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
"GUTS" by Olivia Rodrigo catches the overall feelings you have as a teen. One minute you could be crying to "The Grudge" and the next be screaming to "All-American *****". But throughout all of the lyrics throughout the album, I think one specific lyric from "Teenage Dream" captures the essense of adolescence and the challenges that come with it. This lyric is "When am I gonna stop being wise beyond my years and just start being wise?" The lyrics really capture that struggle of wanting to be mature and wise, but sometimes feeling like you've been too mature for your own good. It's like you're caught between wanting to grow up and navigate life with wisdom, but also craving the freedom and carefree spirit of being a teenager. Being wise beyond your years can have its advantages. It shows that you have a level of maturity and understanding that sets you apart from your peers. You might find yourself making decisions with careful thought and consideration, and people may even come to you for advice because they see you as someone who has it all figured out. But at the same time, it can be a bit overwhelming. It's like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, constantly feeling the need to be responsible and make the right choices. It's natural to want to enjoy the carefree moments of youth and not always have to be the "wise" one. The lyrics speak to that desire to let go of the burden of being wise beyond your years and just embrace the present moment. It's about finding a balance between maturity and allowing yourself to be young and have fun. Sometimes, it's okay to let loose, make mistakes, and learn from them without the pressure of always needing to be wise and mature. It's important to remember that wisdom doesn't always come with age. It's a continuous journey of learning and growing, and it's okay to make mistakes along the way. We all have moments where we feel like we've been too mature, but it's important to give ourselves permission to be young, to have fun, and to embrace the joy and spontaneity that comes with being a teenager. In conclusion, these lyrics perfectly sum up your teenage years. You start y our teenage years as being a young teen thinking that you know everything who just wants to be older. You end your teenage years as a young adult who is scared of the real world who just wants to be that young teen again.

"The Office" was my comfort show during the pandemic. It became my escape from the crazy situation everyone was living through. With that being said, I have formed an emotional bond with this show and it's characters. I resonate with Pam Beasley the most because she was someone who alwsys wanted more but ultimately found happiness in the little things. The show's emotional grasp and dark humor has made me love this show and I would consider "The Office" my favorite show of all time. Throughout the series, we see Pam longing for something more in her life. She dreams of pursuing her artistic passions and finding fulfillment beyond her desk job at Dunder Mifflin. I think many of us can relate to that desire for something greater, for a life that feels more meaningful. But what's truly inspiring about Pam's story is how she ultimately finds happiness in the little things. As the series progresses, we witness her growth and transformation. Relationships can be a wild ride, full of ups and downs, twists and turns. Sometimes they bring us immense joy and happiness, while other times they can bring heartache and disappointment. It's a journey that we all go through, and it's completely normal to have those highs and lows. If my year had a soundtrack from 1989 (Taylor's Version), "This Love" would be on it. "This Love" is a beautiful song that captures the complexities of relationships. It talks about the challenges we face, the moments of doubt, and the power of love to overcome it all. It's a reminder that even in the midst of the ups and downs, love can still prevail. Over the course of the year, I have had many ups and downs with my relationships that include but are not limited to my mother, friends, and significant other. There may have been moments of deep connection and happiness, where I felt like I asw on top of the world. And there may have been moments of heartbreak, confusion, and betrayal where I questioned everything. But here's the thing, relationships are not meant to be perfect. They require effort, understanding, and sometimes even forgiveness. It's through the ups and downs that we learn and grow, both individually and as a couple. Just like in the song, I have had moments where I felt like giving up, but I have also had moments where I realized the importance of fighting for love. It's in those moments that we discover the strength within ourselves and the resilience to keep going. Relationships are a journey, and it's okay to have ups and downs. It's all part of the process of finding the right path and the right people who truly understand and appreciate you. As I reflect on my year and the relationships that have shaped it, I have taken the lessons that I have learned and have used them to grow and evolve. I have cherisedh the moments of joy and love, and have learn from the moments of struggle. And most importantly, I have never lost hope in the power of love. Just like Taylor Swift's song, "This Love," reminds us, love has the ability to heal, to mend, and to bring us closer together. So, I will keep my heart open, embrace the journey, and trust that everything will fall into place. My experiences this year have made me stronger and wiser, and they will continue to shape the person that I am becoming.
