I am a single mother of a 6 year old boy who I would do anything for. I chose healthcare navigator as my trade. This way I can work from home if need be, and still be a full time mom, and also because I can help so many people this way. I grew up in poverty and I have no family left, both my mom and my dad died of cancer this year just 6 months apart. So, it is just me and my son against the world now. I want to do something I can be proud of, something that will provide the type of life I know that I deserve. The type of life my child deserves, too. I am a recovering addict, with over a year of sobriety and recently was able to get my own apartment again after a long stay at a domestic violence shelter. My son and I had to flee our home, we lost everything in the process, and thanks to the amazing people in my community I was able to get through it. I know if I can get my certification, and land a good job where I can help people at a clinic or hospital or a shelter, I will be able to give back to the community that I love. Being the best mom I can be, and giving back to the same community that has done so much for me is my ultimate goal. This way my family can live a happy, fulfilling life.
