Bio

Hi, my name is Hajra Rahim! I am a high school student who aspires to work in the medical field one day. I am passionate about art, my small business (which I founded in 2020), and taekwondo (I am currently a black belt). I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and reading. Perseverance and determination are very important to me and they are what drives me to do what I need to in order to be successful, and they are why I do not regard failure as negative. Being an older sister, I've always been quite independent and a role model for others. I am currently an art teacher at Mary Art Center, where I teach young artists painting and drawing!

    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ album was a defining moment in her career. It marked a departure from her country music roots and showcased her pop sensibilities. The album is filled with infectious hooks, catchy choruses, and Taylor’s signature lyrical prowess. However, my favorite song on the album is "Clean." The reason why "Clean" resonates with me on a personal and emotional level is because it speaks to the transformative power of letting go. When I first heard the song, I was going through a difficult time in my life. My parents had recently gone through a divorce, and I was struggling to come to terms with the sudden changes in my family dynamic. At the same time, I was also battling depression and struggling to find a way out of the darkness. The lyrics of "Clean" spoke to me in a way that no other song had before. The song starts with Taylor singing about feeling dirty and stained from a past relationship. In my case, I felt dirty and stained by the trauma of my parents' divorce and my own negative thoughts and emotions. The lyrics perfectly captured the feeling of emptiness and loss that I was experiencing at the time. However, the chorus of the song is what truly resonated with me. Taylor sings, "Rain came pouring down, when I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe. And by morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean." These lyrics are so powerful because they illustrate the process of healing and moving on from a traumatic event like a divorce, and also the process of overcoming depression. The rain represents the cathartic release of emotions, and the feeling of finally being able to breathe is incredibly freeing. The idea of being "clean" of past trauma and negative thoughts is something that I desperately wanted for myself at the time, and hearing Taylor sing about it was incredibly inspiring. As I listened to "Clean" on repeat, I began to realize that the song was about more than just getting over a past relationship. It was about letting go of the pain and hurt from any difficult situation in life, including my parents' divorce and my battle with depression. The song helped me realize that it was possible to move on from the trauma and negative thoughts and come out stronger on the other side. Through therapy and the support of my loved ones, I was able to work through my depression and come out the other side. "Clean" became an anthem for me during that time, and listening to it reminded me that I had the power to overcome my struggles and emerge stronger. The song helped me realize that I could let go of the pain and hurt from my parents' divorce and move forward with my life. Overall, "Clean" is my favorite song on Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ album because it speaks to the power of letting go and moving on, especially in the context of my parents' divorce and my battle with depression. It is a reminder that even though things may seem bleak at the moment, there is always a chance for renewal and growth. The song helped me through a difficult time in my life, and I will always be grateful for the comfort and inspiration that it provided.
