Hello, my name is Hailey Sherrill, and I am currently a senior at Mountain View High School, nestled in the rural heart of Arkansas. I am eagerly anticipating my graduation this coming May, after which I plan to immediately pursue Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) courses at Ozarka College. During my junior year, I successfully completed all the prerequisite courses required for the LPN program and obtained my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. Upon earning my LPN certification, my goal is to transfer to a university in Arkansas to continue my education and ultimately fulfill my ambition of becoming a forensic psychiatrist!
My passion for psychology and understanding the complexities of the human brain is deeply intertwined with my love for medicine and patient care. Forensic psychiatry uniquely blends these interests, allowing me to explore both the scientific and compassionate sides of healthcare. This field offers the perfect balance between analyzing psychological conditions and providing medical treatment, which gives me a little bit of both worlds!
Nursing and medicine are not just career choices for me; they are a family tradition. My father and aunt both work as registered nurses and growing up surrounded by their dedication to healthcare naturally influenced me. From a young age, I have been focused on entering the medical profession, with only a brief moment of whimsy when I told my mother I wanted to be a “bank lady with clappy shoes.” However, my commitment to healthcare has remained ever since.
Currently, I work night shifts as a CNA at our local nursing home, and prior to this, I gained valuable experience in home health care and a physical therapy clinic. I believe that every bit of hands-on experience strengthens my skills and prepares me for the challenges ahead. Through my work, I have come to understand that excellent healthcare stems from compassionate and dedicated providers. Witnessing the patience and commitment required in this field has reinforced my resolve to become a healthcare professional who truly makes a difference.
My inspiration to pursue nursing and ultimately forensic psychiatry was sparked by stories of my father’s heroic work as an EMT, saving lives and serving the community. These experiences ignited a passion within me that has grown stronger overtime. I am deeply motivated by the opportunity to contribute to healthcare in a meaningful way, especially in the face of challenges such as patient abuse, which further fuels my desire to advocate for vulnerable residents and patients!
My journey is driven by a blend of personal passion, family influence, and professional experience. I am committed to unlocking my potential in the medical field and embracing the journey toward becoming a forensic psychiatrist, where I can combine my love of psychology and medicine to make a lasting impact.
