Ever since I was a child, I've been driven by a deep-seated desire to help people, and my experiences and aspirations in the healthcare field have been significantly influenced by my connection to the military. These life experiences have shaped my career goals as a Nurse and the impact I hope to make in my community. My journey into the world of nursing began when I volunteered at my local hospital in the Labor and Delivery Unit. It was during this time that I truly realized my passion for helping others. I had the privilege of being part of seven births, witnessing the arrival of six sweet girls and one precious boy. The profound impact of these experiences solidified my determination to pursue a career in healthcare. Currently, at the age of 17, I work in the Cardiac Progressive Care unit as a Patient Care Technician. This role has allowed me to gain invaluable hands-on experience in patient care, further fueling my commitment to becoming a nurse. I understand that nursing is not just a profession; it's a calling to provide compassionate care and support to those in need. My connection to the military, particularly through my uncle, who served as a high-ranked commander and medic, has been a significant source of inspiration in my life. My uncle's selfless dedication to saving lives, even at the risk of his own, has left an indelible mark on me. To support my aspirations, he gifted me my first telescope and a blood pressure kit when I was just nine years old. His encouragement and mentorship continued when he provided me with a second kit at the age of 14, recognizing my growing passion for healthcare. I still use both tools to this day, honing my skills and understanding of patient care. My uncle's influence has driven me to set ambitious career goals as a nurse. I aspire not only to become a nurse but also to become a great one. I want to be the kind of healthcare professional who goes above and beyond to make a positive impact in the lives of my patients and the broader community. Whether it's through patient education, preventive care, or supporting individuals during their most vulnerable moments, I aim to contribute to the well-being of my community. Don't be frightened to attempt the seemingly impossible. If you’ve ever lived in a small town you understand how challenging it is to leave, and how there will always be limitations in a tiny community. I don’t want to be caught up in the never-ending cycle of small town life. Although I like the sensation of knowing everyone; when many prefer the familiar, I welcome the unknown. Simply because everyone already assumes what you’re going to become as a result of your parents. I want to be an inspiration to others who desire to go above and beyond what their parents did. Although this requires a great deal of bravery and sacrifice. I want others to notice the effort I put forth to get where I am now. I strive to be a positive individual that can overcome obstacles, and for others to realize I will not surrender until I have achieved my objective. This may be a short-term or long-term objective. My intention is to complete it to the best of my ability. I aspire to be unique and leave my mark on the world, and for others to do the same. A legacy, therefore I encourage you to not be frightened to attempt the seemingly impossible. Regardless of the suffering, I learned a great deal of importance which models my new appearance today. Despite the temptation to act in the now, I chose to chart a course for a brighter future. My personalty has not altered, though my mentality has. I’ll always be able to recall the hatred directed at me, but rather than sinking to their level I will let my deeds speak for themselves. Therefore I acknowledge there are people who are filled with hatred. Unfortunately, that is how the world is today. For some time striving to be a decent person simply resulted in me being taken for granted. However, I now see that being a decent person was not my flaw; knowing when to cease being one was. I’m delighted to report even not knowing what I was working so hard for, I now do. If I had stopped, I would never have had the opportunity to be discovered by the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities and later accepted where I will spend the rest of my high school career. When you achieve something you didn’t think was possible. You have a sense of self-worth that was only possible because of you. So here’s what I’ll leave you with. It may be your parents, a teacher, an ex friend or even yourself. I want you to understand if you don’t try, you’ll never know what you're capable of.
