Hi! My name is Guerna, and I’m a first-generation college student trying to create a legacy that can ripple beyond just me. I study Health Sciences at Northeastern University, but honestly, my dreams started way before that. They started in the in-between moments—watching family members lose access to care back in Haiti and even here in America, feeling helpless, and wondering why the world worked like that. Why some people receive care and others get silence? Why some live, and some don’t? That stuck with me. And it still does. I want to become a Physician Assistant, not just because I love medicine—but because I know what it’s like to not be seen, to be overlooked, to feel like your life isn’t worth urgency. I don’t want to just treat people. I want to remind them they matter. Being the first in my family to do this—college, navigating systems we were never prepared for—hasn’t been easy. I’ve learned to teach myself what I don’t know, ask for help even when it’s hard, and move with purpose, even when I’m scared. I aim to lead with empathy. I mentor, translate for those who need a voice, and show up for others in ways I wish someone would show up for me. I know I sound idealistic, but I truly believe change starts with one person at a time. And each day, I get closer to being one of those people.
