Dogs: Well, I like Dogs better than most people, my dogs are part of my family, part of my everyday life. I believe dogs don't judge. One of their greatest attributes is they give you everything they have unconditionally. We have working dogs they go everywhere with us from camping and hiking to working cattle and horseback. They are with us all the time. They are very understanding and a big part of my family. I wouldn't trade my dog for anything in the world. My dogs have impacted my life by being not only my friend and companion but family. They do everything to make our lives better they sense when we have good days and bad days all the while lending open ears. They not only sense the good but also the bad, protecting our family from harm and anything deemed "unwelcome". They are such a large part of our life anything less would leave a hole, a gap, an emptiness only they can fill. to put things in perspective I wouldn't call ourselves typical owners, Dogs are as much our family as anything else our big brother our sons our companions. Everything they do makes us better from brightening our day, comforting us when needed to helping work when the job needs done. It's a special connection, if you give them a fraction of your time and learn to listen and talk to them, although people say dogs can't talk, they are wrong. They may not use words, but language goes deeper than that if you watch their body language sometimes there as quiet as an Owl or as chatty as a 4-year-old kid. There truly is no way to sum up how dogs impact our lives, and you can learn a lot from a dog and who their owners are and how they behave. the adage of if my dog doesn't like you than I probably won't either is very true for us. There is no sum to the things they do for us, they make us better, they bring us humility and humanity with showing compassion, forgiveness and so much more. My name is Greg Sloan, and I am attending Idaho State University this fall as a Non-Traditional student in the Aviation technology program. Since an early age of around 8 i was introduced to flying, my uncle had taken me on an introductory flight in a WW2 piper cub. this sparked my love for aviation. growing up building model airplanes and looking to the sky. I graduated High school in 1996. From the time I was 15, I have been employed and have always worked to provide for myself and my family. At the age of 15, I started to take flying lessons with my dream of becoming a pilot. I earned my student license on my 16th birthday. I soloed a Cessna 172 before going to the DMV and taking my driving test. At 16, I also started working for the Local Flight service station (FBO) fueling airplanes and providing general service. Throughout high school, I had aspired for a career in aviation. I applied to enter the Air Force but unfortunately at that time, I wore prescription glasses that prevented me from becoming a pilot in the military forces. Then Istarted looking into general aviation and colleges such as Emery Riddle, Kings Academy and other flight training schools. Shortly after Graduation and discussing cost of tuition with my parents, I was unable to attend college due to our financial situation. As my life progressed, I started a family and have continued to work to provide for them. I have spent my adult career in the mining industry performing various rolls. Aspiring to become better, I enrolled online for an electrical course, teaching myself electrical. I started work as an apprentice for a contract company in the mining field. This gave me experience working with 5 volts to 120,000-volt systems as well as PLC and instrumentation. Being a contractor, One work hitch was 96 days straight and average of 120 hours a week. Ultimately this was too difficult to sustain my family life, so I returned to the local area. I returned to work after contacting several years to a mine site that is nearby my home in 2006. Since 2006, I have been employed with Nevada Gold Mines, continuing my career as an electrician, then Electrical supervisor for several years and finally project management for the site. In 2020, I took an opportunity to return to flight school and earn my sport pilot license. I have been flying for several years and enhancing my passion. In early 2022, I was involved in an accident outside of work. After 15 plus years at my current employment, I was unable to return. This would lead me to make the decision to return to college and pursue the career I have always been passionate about. With the loss of employment and income, my wife and son have encouraged me to return to college for my A&P (airframe and powerplant) FAA certificate to pursue a career I love. I have always done what is necessary to provide but truthfully, I have never had an opportunity to work and enjoy what I was doing for employment. Now that I have this opportunity in front of me and with the support of my family, I am finally pursuing a dream in aviation. I believe this will allow me to provide for them in a way to make all of our lives better and give my son a chance for a better future.
