There are millions of opportunities that come in the process of learning. In spite of that, many people undermine the power education due to their ideals of how knowledge should be gained. Personally, I believe that any form of education is important because we gain experience and we exercise our brain. Though that isn’t the only reason why I value education. My parents were two low income teenagers in Mexico. The possibility of them being able to finish high school or start college were extremely low. My dad came to the US to pursue a job in agriculture. He’d work rainy to hot days in the fields to be able to provide for his family. My mother worked at a packing place and at home carrying for me. Growing up I just saw school as just the word school. I was naive to the idea that I was learning over the ages and that this knowledge would become skills that would help me in a future time. As I was old enough to notice, I saw the extreme hard work it took my parents to get into this country. I saw the tiredness in my father’s eyes, the pain in my mother’s arm to come to the conclusion that this was all for me. The more this thought consumed me, the more I valued this opportunity of an education. My parents were not able to fulfill their dream, but they came here so I can. I saw my dreams during my education in highschool. I was genuinely enjoying school for the simple reason of going, interacting, and learning. From this I knew that it was all in my hands to continue to make this dream possible. In some time, I would like to pursue a career in nursing or teach the wonders of literature as a teacher. Education is the door to helping others and here in this country they are open for me. I’ve grown a passion for it and have decided that, I will do my best to achieve. Education has become more than the simple things learned, to the future of learning more. I would like to take the opportunity I am being offered and be proud for my value of education. It was a gift to me from the two people who unfortunately were not able to have it. To this, I won’t let my chance to succeed to be undermined, I will pursue, thanks to education.

To be a woman of color in modern society, is to be seen as an easy target. By this, I mean that many people will take advantage of your gender and the color of your skin. I have witnessed this social issue because I myself, am a Mexican young girl, who is not seen as a powerful dreamer, but a weak attribute. This social issue has been going around the world to make thousands of women victims. It’s time to say, no more. For this issue, I would find multiple ways to influence it, so women of color aren’t categorized, limited, or minimized. I’d take it into my hands by destroying these stereotypes by using a new weapon of technology, social media. There are uncountable of people that have made accounts in these apps. I would find ways to connect with them, by making an account, letting this issue be known. This is significant to empower these women and to spread awareness of this unfair idea. I’d make sure that this thought is brought down so that we aren’t underestimated for our gender or race. In order to make this work, I would connect with victims of this norm and help share their stories. Hopefully having reached a bigger plat form, these stories will be universally known. I would also elevate and praise successful women of color. Not just by their academic achievements, but by everything else we as a society consider success. Without a doubt that it this would be quite a scandalous way, but these women deserve to be shown as more, as equal, and nothing less. Racism and sexism are social issues that must be discussed more often. Though it may be impossible to have an immense impact that may cancel these problems out, all we can do as a society with minimal power is try. If given the opportunity, I would want to make a positive impact through these dark waters. It would be of need to spread awareness and elevate women of color, who daily get discriminated against for simple reason of being women. It would be of need to elevate women of color because they are rarely seen. When they are, they aren’t seen as equals. I would at least like to make some sort of impact whether it be big or small. Indeed we can never win them all, but I would try. I’d take this prominent social issue and do my best to make it seen, so that everyone around the world can see them, women of color
