Golf has been one of the greatest teachers in my life. Since I first picked up a club at the age of ten, the game has shaped me into the person I am both on and off the course. Golf has taught me discipline, patience, and, most importantly, integrity. Those lessons do not stay behind when I walk off the 18th green, they are values I carry into school, relationships, and everyday life. Every round I play is not just about a score, but an opportunity to apply what I’ve learned, to measure my growth, and to challenge myself to become better. Playing competitively has added an entirely new dimension to my development. Tournament golf pushes me to set ambitious goals and work tirelessly to achieve them. I’ve learned how to perform under pressure, how to stay present shot by shot, and how to hold myself accountable for both successes and mistakes. These lessons extend far beyond golf. In school, they help me manage deadlines and keep a consistent work ethic. In my personal life, they’ve shaped my leadership, time management, and strategic thinking. Golf has given me a blueprint for improvement: prepare, execute, reflect, and grow. As I look ahead to my future, I am committed to playing golf at San José State University, I am thrilled to continue this journey as part of the golf team. I am eager to contribute to the team’s success, both through my play and by being a supportive and hardworking teammate. I know that the values I’ve developed through golf: discipline, focus, and perseverance will serve me well not just on the course, but also in my academic career. I plan to major in business, a field where these same qualities are essential. My goal is to gain the knowledge to manage a business effectively and responsibly, while also learning how to navigate personal finances. Beyond college, I aspire to one day compete at the highest level on the PGA Tour. I look up to players like Scottie Scheffler, not only for their skill and success on the course, but also for the way they carry themselves as role models and family men. His example inspires me to pursue excellence in golf while striving for balance in life. This scholarship would support more than just my golf, it would be an investment in my character, my academic goals, and my commitment to representing the game with integrity. Golf has shaped who I am, and with this opportunity, I believe I can continue to grow into someone who makes an impact both inside and outside the ropes. Thank you very much! -Sincerely, Grant Leary

Golf has been a great teacher for me! It has shaped me into who I am both on and off the course. Starting golf at age 10, it taught me discipline, patience, but most importantly integrity! I carry these lessons into school, golf, and everyday life. Each round gives me an opportunity to apply the lessons I have learned and allow me to quantify my growth. Playing competitively has pushed me to set goals and work tirelessly to achieve them. I’ve learned how to handle pressure, stay present, and hold myself accountable—skills that extend beyond golf into academics and personal growth. These experiences have helped me develop leadership, time management, and strategic thinking. Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to continue my golf journey at San Jose State University as a member of the golf team. I aim to contribute to the team’s success while continuing to grow as a player and a teammate. I plan to leverage the skills I’ve gained through golf—discipline, focus, and perseverance—to succeed in college on and off the course. I do not plan on pursuing a specifically golf-related major, but rather a business major. I feel that these skills will hopefully help me learn how to properly manage and handle a business but in the process also learn how to handle my personal finances. Beyond college, my hopes and aspirations are to one day be successful on the PGA Tour. I look up to Scottie Scheffler as a role model of what it looks like to play golf at the highest level but also staying a family man. I really hope that I can have a work and life balance as well as he does it but hopefully being more successful!
