I am currently a Research Assistant at the University of New England's Research Comprehension and Cognition Lab. I am pursuing a Psychology major with both an Education minor and a Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Certification (MHRT/C) minor.
I plan on attending a Master's program in the future, with the ultimate goal of becoming a practicing clinician in order to help people understand and overcome their mental health problems. I hope to one day make an impact in the field through not only practice but advocacy to dissolve mental health stigma. My primary interest is to work with adolescents and adults.
My family is currently going through an extremely difficult time. I live at home for school and my parents have separated, leaving one parent to take care of the finances. There are lots of court dates and legal fees that this parent has to pay, and I'm looking for scholarships so I can continue my education without being afraid that I will be in significant debt since my family cannot support me during this time. I'm doing everything I can, but with finances that sometimes isn't enough.
I am a Research Assistant for UNE's Reading Comprehension and Cognition Lab, where I began at the beginning of my sophomore year. I am also a Writing Fellow at my school, a peer tutor to help students with their writing in an assigned classroom which varies by semester. During the school year, I dedicate myself to my academics, research, and peer tutoring – In the summer, I am a full-time landscape laborer for my grandfather's company.

Throughout grade school I found myself feeling like an outsider looking in. I analyzed every interaction that I had with others and that I witnessed others have with each other. For awhile, I saw this as a disadvantage. I became trapped in my own mind in the depths of depression and social anxiety, replaying scenarios in my head and wondering why they happened the way they did. Why does that person talk so much about others? Why does that person have such a hard time focusing in class? Why does everyone else exclude that one person from their group? Why do I exclude myself?
In high school when I began to heal, I came to finally realize that I could use my analytical skills and curiosity about my mind and my peers' minds to aid others. I found the world of psychology and mental health, a crucial field that has been in the background for many years because it has not been regarded highly in the world of medicine. But without the health of the mind, the body cannot function.
Thus, I discovered my passion for mental health. I am now a rising junior in college pursuing a psychology degree with the plans of furthering my education in graduate school for psychiatry. This means attending a medical school and specializing in psychiatry so that I may help others that felt like I did. I specifically have a passion for helping adolescents. This population can feel stuck in their mental health disorder like it's never-ending due to the brains particular point of development at this time. It is my dream career to be able to assess these problems and help these adolescents regain control of their life so they can lead lives in the future that are fulfilling. I would like to provide this through a combination of therapy and medication, if – and only if – it is necessary. Healing does not come through medication alone, but through a professional who can listen, analyze, break down and assess the issue, and help lead their patient to discover that they are capable of healing.
