I am a highly motivated student majoring in Marine Vertebrate Biology. I love to play sports, sing, write poems/stories, and work in the research lab at school. My 3 siblings and I were raised by our single mom who is one of the strongest people I know. Between her and I there is next to no money to pay for my schooling. I've worked every day since I turned 14 but most of the money I made I gave to my mother to pay bills. Any sort of scholarship would mean the world to me so I may continue going to school.

Rosalind Franklin is the female leader that has inspired me the most. Franklin was a very important person, she was a scientist who helped discover the structure of DNA alongside Watson and Crick. She played a large role in this discovery and was never given any credit. All the glory and praise went straight to Watson and Crick as she was only seen as a background coworker.
Franklin has inspired me so much because even while being stuck behind in the shadow of her peers she continued to shine and not be brought down by discrimination. She continued her work in science all the while remaining humble as she fought to be seen and recognized by her fellow scientist's. Franklin blazed a trail in the DNA and science community; I want to blaze my own trail just like her.
I aspire to become a leader by continuing my work in my job here in the lab. For now, I am just a lab assistant and I am content with this position; but I plan to work hard and work my way up the chain so I can begin my project within the lab and become a leader within our lab, and inspire others. Thinking back to Franklin, she started at the bottom (just like me) and through hard work and dedication, she became a well-known scientist and an inspiration to young women scientists everywhere; and that is what I hope to do, I want to be the leader of the next generation of young scientist's.
Especially in this age of the pandemic and medical and scientific uncertainty I want to become a leader through my hard work and maybe help heal the world. I plan to become a leader through my career by helping others to their full potential, working hard and giving it my all, and most importantly, just be me. That is how I will become a leader.
Hobbies Matter
My name is Grace and my favorite hobby is drawing. Drawing has become my outlet to express my feelings no matter if they are good or bad. My passion for drawing began to shine when the Covid-19 pandemic started back in 2019. I was quarantined with my mom and my twin brother for almost 3 months; my mom was very afraid to go out because of the virus and so was I. So I spent most of my quarantine days up in my room drawing.
I felt so many confusing emotions at this time; I was scared, anxious, worried, fearful, and most of all terrified for the people I loved who were miles away from me. Drawing truly became my saving grace throughout this whole pandemic. I was never able to put words to how I was feeling so I drew the feelings. I wanted to show them to my mom so she could help me work through them. And it helped a lot. Ever since then I've never stopped drawing.
In my hometown, there were many art shows to help past the time of the pandemic once things seemed to get better. My art teacher encouraged me to submit some of my work so I did; the people in my hometown loved my work. I truly enjoy drawing because it helps me to express feelings that I can't put words to. It also helps people, especially during Covid. It's a positive outlet to release all the negatives. It brings people together, never in a million years did I ever think that my work would help not just me but everyone around me, and that's one of the main reasons I enjoy drawing. I also love to draw because it's so calming, I just put on my headphones and let the pencil glide on the paper. Drawing is my absolute favorite hobby and I can never imagine a time when I'm not drawing.
