I dreamed one day I would be a writer, but then I let that dream go for thirteen years. It was not that fact that I had a child at the age of eighteen, or that I had not received any support to go to college in my last two years of high school, that kept me from following my dream; it was that I did not trust myself to be successful. Instead, I tried so many things from nursing programs to zoology programs, but each time my heart was just not in it. I left the idea of finishing college in 2014 when I got a job working for Amazon. It paid well and the schedule was decent, but I was never fulfilled there. Still, I persisted and eventually took a job as a paraeducator in an elementary school, where I found my love for writing again while helping my students learn how to write. I thought I had finally found my niche in the world, then Covid-19 happened and my perception changed. It was during the fall of 2020, I decided to go back to school, and I knew it was going to be for writing. I was not sure how I would get back to college financially, or if I was still considered young enough to go, after all, I turn thirty this year. On top of that, I was not sure how to bring my passion for writing into a career source. Every job uses writing skills, but not every job wants creative writing skills as their selling point, however, I just knew writing was where my life was pulling me towards. Ever since I was able to write I have, however, I also loved helping others write. There has always been a desire in my life to help people; my mother used to call me her empathetic spitfire because I was both intuned with the emotions and needs of others around me, and I was a bit of an assertive child. Now that I have a child of my own, I see so much potential in her as well and want her to see that no matter a person's age, background, or financial limitations, if you have a passion you love there is a way to make it into a career. This is what drew me into going back to school to study creative writing with the ambition to teach creative writing to high school-level students. In high school, it is crucial to understand how to write, but also how to express yourself through your writing, which is what I hope to one day be able to help guide their voices onto paper. I want to inspire future generations to love the art of writing and creating their own unique stories.
