When I finally gave birth to my child I was surrounded by great Nurses who took me like family and made the experience worthwhile in my most vulnerable moment. My child is eight years now and over the years raising her alone I have had the deep urge to come into healthcare and pay it forward, helping other women and children especially who are still wallowing in the place I used to be. I want to help them successfully navigate out of the mud into their stability in life. I am a volunteer at the Seventh Day Adventist’s Neighbor to Neighbor nonprofit in Berrien Springs, Michigan where I help out with the “Feed and cloth America Drive”. This nonprofit has helped cloth and feed so many low income residents in Michigan. Previously I am licensed as an early childhood educator and still work part time with kids zero to 12 years of age, supporting them and helping raise a generation of people with great values. I take care of babies while their parents go to work, I feed, clean and work out a schedule with them for the day. I am also the nurse, teacher and sole provider for my child who is eight and the only present parent. This scholarship would help me pay my tuition and not drop out of school because of financial challenges, it will help me complete my studies and fulfill the purpose of rescuing more and more emotionally unstable people out of a bad place. When I look at school shooting statistics it grieves my heart, intimate partner violence and murder keep rising. These are all a ripple effect of emotional instability. Anyone who resorts to violence and shooting as a way to settle scores lacks the will to regulate their emotions. We need to protect our society and I am here for it. My annual Tuition is $40,000, however I get $14,000 yearly scholarship from my institution for maintaining a good GPA. I will have to personally cover the remaining tuition fees, cost of books, rent and feeding plus taking care of my child’s expenses alone which can be overwhelming hence my application for this scholarship.
