Bio

Howdy! I'm Anna and I'm an Animal Science major and double minor in Business and Crop Science at Tarleton State University. I was very active in my high school's Future Farmers of America chapter since I was a freshman. I showed market goats around the state of Texas and competed on the livestock and dairy cattle judging teams. I also served as the chapter's Vice President during my senior year. In college, I am currently a part of the Honors College, Collegiate FFA, Agribusiness Club, Chemistry Club, and Honors College Student Association. I also have an on-campus job as a tutor for many subjects: General Animal Science, Livestock Anatomy & Physiology, Animal Nutrition, Agronomy, Biology, Meat Science, and Federal Government just to name a few. Outside the classroom, I like to ride bulls, watch rodeos, lift weights, play video games, and pet animals. My career goals are to be a professor of animal science and rancher with goats, sheep, beef cattle, and bucking bulls.

When I first started investing, I was advised by many people to read about the stock market and look at trends daily. This piece of advice has been the most helpful tip I’ve been told and I have been very successful with my portfolios. I have one account that has money in a mutual fund that has been growing steadily since I started it. A couple of months ago I started a new portfolio with individual stocks. I did a lot of research to find stocks that were projected to fit my goals well and that could handle trends. Every day, I check each account to see what the daily gain is. In addition to checking each account, I check stock market news and see what stocks are hot, what is dipping, stocks to watch, etc. I’m also subscribed to a stock market magazine and I read through monthly issues and note which stocks I find interesting and might like to buy.

"A State of Mind" Texas Scholarship
Being a resident of the greatest state in the USA means that I can be whoever I want and do whatever I put my mind to with a cowboy spirit. Living in Texas, I have embraced my passion for livestock, goats especially, and been heavily involved with my school’s Future Farmers of America(FFA) chapter and showed my market goat projects and countless livestock shows. Texas being a titan in the agricultural industry has allowed me to easily pursue my passion and be very involved in the livestock industry starting in high school. Since I have graduated and moved to one of the best agricultural universities in Texas, I have pursued my interest in my favorite rodeo event, bull riding. I’ve always thought about getting into rodeo and chasing the crazy possibility of being the first professional women bull rider. I figured now would be the perfect time to pursue that issue. Not only is Texas a powerhouse in the agriculture world, but it's also known for its rodeo industry. Again, this great state lets me pursue another passion of mine and do whatever I put my mind to. Since August I have been going to a local ranch for weekly bull riding practice. I've taken my “cowboy spirit” to a new level and what being a Texan means the world to me.

Since the age of 13, I have wanted to go to an agricultural college and raise show goats and beef cattle. Throughout high school, I have shown market goats through FFA. I participated in numerous jackpot shows, made the Sale of Champions three times at the McLennan County Junior Livestock Show, and attended Texas major shows. I showed at the Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo all four years of high school, the State Fair of Texas my junior year, and finished my senior year at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. After the show season was over I competed on the Robinson FFA Livestock Judging team and learned what traits are desirable and how to select high-quality livestock. In addition to showing and judging, I took multiple agriscience classes and attended breeder workshops to learn all that I could about raising livestock. I will start college at Tarleton State University in Fall 2021. I have also been accepted into the Honors College and will take Honors Core classes alongside degree specific classes. I plan to major in Animal Science, minor in Agribusiness, and get a teaching certificate. I picked an Animal Science major so I could learn about feeding, care, health, and selection for all the species of livestock. I want to learn more about running agricultural businesses and operations so I decided to declare an agribusiness minor instead of a double major. Being an agriscience teacher after college is one of my top careers, so I will get a teaching certificate as well. My career goal is to either become an agriscience teacher or become a recognized breeder in the show goat industry and raise high-quality beef cattle. My main operation would be show goats but I also want to raise cattle, horses, and other livestock species. In addition to raising livestock, I also want to share my knowledge and passion for agriculture with other FFA and 4-H members and mentor them with their livestock projects. As an agriscience teacher, I want to teach livestock and welding classes, coach a livestock judging team, and assist students with livestock and welding projects.

I have had very positive experiences with my smartphone. I got my first smartphone when I was in junior high. I quickly realized I had a wealth of information, entertainment, and a worldwide network at my fingertips. My phone has helped me network, find people with similar interests, and learn new things. When I have time to relax, I can play games, browse social media, order take-out food or watch Youtube videos on one device. It's like an all-in-one machine for day-to-day living. the only problem I have dealt with is with the smartphone's durability and lifespan. I get about two years out of it before problems occur. I live and work on a farm so my phone comes in contact with dirt, mud, dust, and water a lot. A smartphone helps make my day-to-day activities easier. At work, if I need to get a hold of someone immediately, I can call them from the fields instead of having to go look for them. I can also keep farm records, lists, data, notes, and reminders all in one place and be more organized. I have numerous goat records on my phone. I keep track of what I feed them, which goat is which, health records, and anything else that requires me to keep track of. I can also keep my goat pictures in one app and organize them into folders. Accessing the internet on a smartphone is a lot more convenient than using a computer. I just open the Google app and type in the search bar what I want. On a daily basis, I use it to check the time, email, and social media. Even when I'm driving, I try to keep my phone away so it doesn't distract me. I turn it off and keep it in my consul, pocket, or pocket organizer in the back seat. Even when I hear a notification or phone call pop up, I ignore it, keep driving, and check it when I get to my destination or stop for gas. The only time I have my phone out while driving is when I'm using GPS. I put it in my lap and turn the audio directions on. Every once in a while, I look down to make sure I'm on the right road. I only look down at my phone for a belief second and only when I feel comfortable doing so.

I've seen so many movies in countless different categories. I could pick an action-packed Indiana Jones movie, or a one based on the wild west, or a kid comedy about the ice age. I've seen a ton of movies that I could watch over and over, but one rises to the top. My favorite movie of all time is The Dark Night. Batman is my favorite superhero and an I love how the supervillain Joker is played. Heath Ledger's Joker is my favorite portrayal of the villain. I first watched the movie in the theater and was blown away by the phenomenal sound, picture, and acting. Even though I have seen the movie over 100 times, it is still at the top of my list of a good movie night. Even the plot is thought out well and not a predictable good guy versus bad guy plot. With all the twists and turns, the plot allows the audience to form their own theories about the storyline and character developement. I believe Joker did all his violent antics to get Batman to break his own moral code and kill his enemy. Joker is as far from redemption as Batman is willing to break his moral code.

I live in a small town in the heart of Texas. I've only been involved in the community for only a few years, but it seems like I've been there forever. Everyone knows everybody and is willing to lend a hand at any minute. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of a small community and discovered the benefits of being involved. Since I've actively been involved in the community, I have met a ton of new people, gained a solid network of individuals in the workforce, and added impressive features to my resume, just to name a few. I believe people should get involved in their community for those reasons. Meeting the neighbors is great but getting has a lot of benefits that are sometimes overlooked. Getting involved helps people find their interests, develop leadership skills and confidence; whether it be helping with a community service project, volunteering to lead a community event, or going to a career fair. Not only is community involvement good for one's self-esteem, but it's also a great resume builder. I beefed up the volunteer and community service portion of my resume by helping with local fundraisers for the school clubs and scholarship fund and volunteering in my town's yearly Rockets Reaching Out community service day and holiday food banks. In the future, I want to help my community by mentoring youth. I had many opportunities to help youth new to showing livestock while in high school and really enjoyed watching them grow as showmen and young people. My career goal is to raise show goats and show cattle that are successful in the show ring around the country. In addition to raising livestock, I want to mentor 4-H and FFA members with their livestock projects and help them accomplish their goals.

Every year, I have shown market goats, competed on the livestock and dairy cattle judging teams, attended monthly meetings, and participated in countless FFA activities. Outside of FFA, I’m on the varsity Track and Field team, and a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society. My favorite ways to stay fit are lifting weights and running. I get in the weight room to work out four times a week, do a sprint or distance workout twice, and rest on Saturday. Another way I keep myself moving is by working with my show goats. I exercise my goats by chasing them in a field. I also walk them when we practice showmanship. When I wasn't working my show goats, I was at track practice. I ran sprints on the girls' varsity team and we practiced every other day after school. Some days, I would end up working out twice. On top of working out a lot, I try to keep a healthy diet. I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, high protein meats, a decent amount of carbs, and drink a lot of water. The benefits I get from staying active and eating well are very rewarding. I feel healthier, have more energy, and am more motivated. I’m more productive during the day and I have done very well in school and in extracurricular clubs.

I have multiple pictures of my little goat Pendleton. He is a show goat and has his pictures posted on the gram after a show. His big brother Joker is also featured a lot. I've added some of my favorite pictures of Pendleton. He is such a sweet and fun-loving boy. He loves attention and knows when the camera is on him. I absolutely love this little guy and his happy outlook on life. He lives every day to the fullest and never fails to make anyone he encounters smile.

I started showing market goats through FFA my freshman year of high school. Since then, I have never had a first place goat. I'm in my senior year of high school and FFA and I finally placed first. My goat won his class and cash prize at the last livestock show I attended in 2020! My goat's name is Joker. He is a very sweet and loving boy! He had been placing 3rd, 4th, and 5th in previous shows, I was trilled when he placed first!
