I am excited to be attending the University of Virginia and am grateful for any support I receive. My brother will be attending college right after me, so I hope to provide some peace of mind to my parents by applying for scholarships and funding a part of my own education this year. In my free time, I love to read, crochet, and volunteer.
I have been volunteering with Tusome Pamoja since sophomore year and began interning with the organization this past summer. Tusome is a nonprofit tutoring organization for refugee and migrant children of all grade levels in the Richmond area. We serve students who have experienced an interruption in their academic journey and the main goal of the Saturday program is to fill in gaps in English and Math, enabling them to be more successful at school. My responsibilities as an intern involved crafting emails and social media posts, organizing field trips, and leading Teen Advisory Board meetings. At the end of the summer, I organized a cultural dinner and hand-folded dumplings, so students could try foods from around the world.
In addition, I volunteer with Third Church Tutoring to support a refugee girl with English and Math. I guide her through writing exercises and reading books out loud. I also search for Khan Academy practices to fill in any gaps she might have, and provide homework help.
Thank you for considering me for your scholarship!

Dream career goals:
My goal is to become a Brand Manager. After my first year at the University of Virginia, I will apply to the McIntire School of Commerce to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce with a concentration in Marketing. Before I graduate, I will apply for a marketing internship and gain valuable work experience. If I'm not able to obtain an internship, I plan to take an online certification course to build a strong foundation of knowledge for my future career. Finally, I will apply for an entry-level marketing role and build up enough work experience to be successful in a Brand Manager role.
