Dear Hudson Family,
My name is Ginny Archie, a recent high school graduate. My passion for health and nutrition began when I entered high school. I went from learning how proper nutrition can improve my performance in cross country races, workouts, practices, and tennis matches, to digging deeper into how it plays a role in illness or disease. I want to study nutrition and dietetics in college, and ultimately become a registered dietitian.
I currently work at Dynamix Physical Therapy. Since working there, I have come to understand some of the chronic illnesses patients deal with daily. I hear the long medication list many are taking. When a patient describes the irritation experienced because of their medication and chronic illness, I feel a fire light inside. I know I am meant to help people like these patients, people who mean something to someone else. Everywhere I look, someone is struggling with a chronic illness, cancer, low energy, food allergies, brain fog, irritable bowel issues, and other issues classified as “normal” in today’s society. However, after being sparked with an interest in nutrition, I have found that “normal” does not always equate to “healthy.” When I become a registered dietitian, I will analyze a patient’s diet and help reverse their irritating struggles through dietary changes. Better yet, I want to help people prevent illnesses through proper nutrition. My mission is for others to learn how food is medicine.
When I was younger, my great-grandmother developed Alzheimer's Disease. I will never forget how it affected her and those who loved her. Alzheimer’s is a cruel, ruthless disease. Now, years later, I am reading and researching for myself nutrition's role in diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.
My dad and grandfather were both diagnosed at a very early age with diabetes. I have seen firsthand how it affects their life. Even at a young age, I wondered if taking pills everyday was the only way to manage diabetes.
I am from a small school with around 150 students. Therefore, my teachers truly feel like family. When two of my teachers became diagnosed with breast cancer, I wanted to know how nutrition impacts the development of cancer.
People around me often ask for healthy recipes. I have a social media page solely dedicated to sharing my love for healthy eating and recipe ideas. I am thankful other people can look to me for advice. In a world full of unhealthy relationships with food and dieting, it always excites me when I get the opportunity to explain proper food nutrition. I will continue to tell more and more people about what food does to our bodies and how to make improvements!
As a registered dietitian, I will help patients understand how food affects them and help make necessary dietary changes. I hope they will feel the positive difference in their life! This difference will show them there is a happier and healthier side to life! Disease does not define a person, and it should not consume their life. I’ve always known I wanted to change lives through my career choice. I want to help people boost their quality of life through nutrition education.
Dietitians can work in areas of food service management, sports nutrition, schools, or state and local governments. However, I have always felt called to bring clarity to those dealing with disease. When I become a registered dietitian, I would love to work in a hospital. Once I gain more experience in my career, my goal is to own a facility focused on healthy eating education and implementation.
Sincerely, Ginny Archie
