Bio

I am extremely passionate about psychology and how the brain works. It fascinates me how each word we speak and every action we take in life is justified by a series of impulses in our neural pathways. I aspire to understand on a higher level how these impulses operate and communicate with each other and connect to who we are. I take pride in my willingness to absorb new information and my devotion towards bettering my education. Hard-working, enthusiastic, and proactive are words that best describe my character. On a more personal level, I enjoy spreading positivity to those around me through my approachable and free-spirited nature. Each new opportunity I face is matched with a strong sense of confidence in my abilities and a heightened level of maturity.

Listening to others is a skill that few people have, but it's necessary when communicating with and helping those who struggle with mental health. Due to the stigmas surrounding mental health issues because of a lack of physical evidence to support that one may struggle with mental health, it's easy for neurotypical people to deny that there is an issue. However, truly listening to what someone is trying to say can help one to understand someone's mental health issue or their cries for help. Listening is only half of the solution, however. One has to understand what they're listening to as well. Through mentoring students in my school, I have better developed my listening skills. Someone commenting they aren't comfortable going home could imply that they are experiencing something traumatic in their home life, or someone mentioning that they don't have many friends could actually mean that they've been struggling with social anxiety. Listening to these hidden statements has helped me help others who have struggled to ask for help when needed. Personally, I am a very social person, but I struggle with anxiety. I'm typically very loud and vocal, but my responses become short and dismissive when I start to feel overly anxious. Those who are around me have listened to the contrast in my words. They have recognized that my silence is a cry for help in getting out of situations that I am uncomfortable in and unable to remove myself from. When you take the time to listen to those around you, you enhance your understanding of mental health. Listening provides you with the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life and break past the stigma that someone's situation may not be real. It allows for stronger communication by validating everyone through patience and empathy.

My favorite artist is the indie-pop band AJR. They are constantly pushing social and political boundaries with their music, as well as creating a platform where young minds can educate themselves about world events. AJR's performances are packed with intense technical aspects that enhance the story and the experience through lighting and visuals. They make use of every one of their talents in order to best represent not only what their music is, but what all music should be.
