Although I was born in New Jersey in 2005 to my Nigerian parents, I grew up in Lagos Nigeria,
where I discovered my passion for creativity. Growing up, I would say I always had very vivid
imaginations mostly stemming from all of the cartoons I would watch on TV. I was often caught
daydreaming, but it was during those moments that I realized my love for drawing because as a
result of all that wild imagination, I developed an interest in drawing so I could bring the characters
from my daydreams to life on paper.
I believe I started drawing around the age 6 and during that period, I was mostly drawing
characters from cartoons I had watched, and animals because I liked watching the Nat Geo Wild
TV channel as well. While those my early drawings were far from perfect, I always felt proud and a
sense of joy about them. Determined to improve, I kept refining my skills with each stroke.
However, one area I was reluctant to try out due to self-doubt was the world of three-dimensional
art, but my pivotal moment came when I turned 10, coinciding with the time period I also
discovered my newfound love for soccer.
Throughout my school days in Nigeria, my passion for art remained strong. In art class and group
projects that require drawing, some of my classmates often looked to me for guidance which
further motivated me by reinforcing my confidence. I also made friends with fellow classmates
that could draw and we would often create funny comic books usually about superheroes.
However, life took an unexpected turn in the fall of 2018 when my family made the decision to
relocate to Canada. I was 13 years old at the time and it was challenging for me at first. However, I
embraced this new chapter of my life and was eager to explore a different culture, and new people.
I joined a soccer club, made lots of new friends and after 2 years at junior-high, I finally got my first
taste of senior high school at Saint Mary's high school. During my time there I was able to take
classes that greatly helped further my knowledge in art especially computer class and art class,
but 2 years later, I took a huge step to move to West Nottingham Academy Maryland, to attend
high school and take classes that will help shape my future to achieve my life goals.
In conclusion, my journey through my two most valuable passions - art and soccer, has been a
path of self-discovery and growth. My passion for art has greatly evolved through different experiences and it continues to fuel my aspirations. I am now ready to venture into the world of
Digital Design, where imagination knows no bound and where I can make meaningful contribution
through my creativity. I am eager to bring my eclectic perspective into the college community, and
fully express the passion that is Art, that has been an integral part of my identity.
Ken Landry Memorial Scholarship
I was drawn into the world of soccer through shared moments with my mother, watching
Manchester United games. From discussing plays and lineups to admiring the players and
coaches, soccer became such an integral part of my life. It was during this period that I decided to
challenge myself by creating a 3D drawing of the legendary Lionel Messi. To my astonishment, the
result far exceeded my expectations, and cleared all doubts about my artistic abilities. From that
point on, I went on to unleash my creativity and started drawing everything and anything that
captured my imagination. I even created comic books for my younger brother and sister to enjoy.
I started playing soccer soon after and I'd always go to the park to play with friends and I was increasingly getting better however, life took an unexpected turn in the fall of 2018 when my family made the decision to relocate to Canada from Nigeria. I was 13 years old at the time and it was challenging for me at first. However, I embraced this new chapter of my life and was eager to explore a different culture, and new people. I joined a soccer club called West Hillls United, made lots of new friends and after 2 years at junior-high, I finally got my first taste of senior high school at Saint Mary's high school. Club sports brought a different kind of challenge, balancing between my social life, school work and the practices wasn't easy and the games were very intense. Injuries, exhaustion and occasional setbacks on the field made me have to build up my resiliance. I also learned how to push through moments of self doubt and staying focus on my goals(literally), even when juggling multiple responsibilities was difficult and being part of a team meant getting along with my teammates which was very important if we wanted to win games together.
Through soccer I was able to gain many experiences and challenges which greatly helped with their growth. Moving to a new country wasn't easy but thankfully I had a supportive family and I was able to pursue my love for soccer, and becuase of the move I was able to meet plenty new people and they all had a huge impact on me and the person I am today. I am forever grateful to the beautiful game of soccer because it taught me discipline, time management and the ability to perservere through challenges, both personal and academic, it also gave me passion to improve my skills and learn more about the sport, either playing or watching games and I believe that this is what makes sports so special and why I like encouraging others to take up sports. My journey with soccer, my early days in the park compared to playing in a club in highschool and now while I'm pursuing a degree in college I'm also looking for opportunity to play soccer at the highest level, thats I believe this scholarship will greatly help my efforts in achieving my goals.

Gloria Millender "I am 3rd" - J. O. Y. Scholarship
It was a Sunday morning, at the time I believe I was 12 and me and my family were getting ready to go to church, since we were Catholics mass started at eleven o'clock and we almost never miss mass. In my family there were my mom and dad and then my brother and sister, back then me and my siblings almost never paid attention to what the service was about most of the time we were falling asleep, daydreaming or running around outside the church. Obviously our parents didn't like this and were always trying to get us to pay attention but it never worked, they'd ask us after the mass what we learned and we'd just say what we might of overheard or what we thought sounded right and sometimes we might get by but most times we were always getting scolded, they'd be saying stuff like why aren't you guys paying attention, do you not want Jesus in your life and we'd always just disregard what they were saying and we'd continue doing our on thing, and this Sunday morning was looking like it would be the exact same but on our way to church something just snapped in me I wasn't distracted, I actually felt like paying attention to the readings and so for the entirety of the mass while my sibling continued to disregard the mass me and my parents paid full attention from the very start to finish and by the end of mass my parents were so proud of me and they kept asking what brought this sudden change and at the time I really didn't know or understand but now I've come to realize that it me accepting our lord Jesus into my life.

Growing up, I would say I always had very vivid imaginations mostly stemming from all of the cartoons I would watch on TV. I was often caught daydreaming, but it was during those moments that I realized my love for drawing because as a result of all that wild imagination, I developed an interest in drawing so I could bring the characters from my daydreams to life on paper. I believe I started drawing around the age 6 and during that period, I was mostly drawing characters from cartoons I had watched, and animals because I liked watching the Nat Geo Wild TV channel as well. While those my early drawings were far from perfect, I always felt proud and a sense of joy about them. Determined to improve, I kept refining my skills with each stroke. However, one area I was reluctant to try out due to self-doubt was the world of three-dimensional art, but my pivotal moment came when I turned 10, coinciding with the time period I also discovered my newfound love for soccer. I was drawn into the world of soccer through shared moments with my mother, watching Manchester United games. From discussing plays and lineups to admiring the players and coaches, soccer became such an integral part of my life. It was during this period that I decided to challenge myself by creating a 3D drawing of the legendary Lionel Messi. To my astonishment, the result far exceeded my expectations, and cleared all doubts about my artistic abilities. From that point on, I went on to unleash my creativity and started drawing everything and anything that captured my imagination. I even created comic books for my younger brother and sister to enjoy. Throughout my school days in Nigeria, my passion for art remained strong. In art class and group projects that require drawing, some of my classmates often looked to me for guidance which further motivated me by reinforcing my confidence. I also made friends with fellow classmates that could draw and we would often create funny comic books usually about superheroes. However, life took an unexpected turn in the fall of 2018 when my family made the decision to relocate to Canada. I was 13 years old at the time and it was challenging for me at first. However, I embraced this new chapter of my life and was eager to explore a different culture, and new people. I joined a soccer club, made lots of new friends and after 2 years at junior-high, I finally got my first taste of senior high school at Saint Mary's high school. During my time there I was able to take classes that greatly helped further my knowledge in art especially computer class and art class, but 2 years later, I took a huge step to move to West Nottingham Academy Maryland, to attend high school and take classes that will help shape my future to achieve my life goals. In conclusion, my journey through my two most valuable passions - art and soccer, has been a path of self-discovery and growth. My passion for art has greatly evolved through different experiences and it continues to fuel my aspirations. I am now ready to venture into the world of Digital Design, where imagination knows no bound and where I can make meaningful contribution through my creativity. I am eager to bring my eclectic perspective into the college community, and fully express the passion that is Art, that has been an integral part of my identity.

My name is George Aghanya I'm Nigerian but I was born in the United States, I've lived in Nigeria for most of my life but in 2018 I and my family moved to Calgary Canada and have been living there ever since. In this essay, I'd like to emphasize some of the qualities I possess and where I acquired them, first is my always believe in myself attitude if there is one thing I can proudly say then it is the fact that I usually don't doubt myself when I'm facing a tough challenge, I usually back myself to persevere and face the challenge and accept whatever outcome it may be. This quality has gotten me through many challenges I have faced in my life for example when I'm taking a test that I know I have prepared enough for or even driving a car, as for where I got this quality from I learned it from my mom, throughout my life I've seen my mom go through plenty of challenges and she's won some and lost some but not once has she wavered always believing in her abilities and putting her faith in God and that's why in that aspect I aspire to be like my mom. Another quality I have learned from someone else is my ability to work hard, I haven't been the most hardworking person all my life and truthfully I'm still not but one about me is that I always get the job done. An example is a history essay that was due in 2 weeks but I decided to buckle down and finish it in one night another example is right now as I'm writing this essay I could be getting ready to go to bed but instead, I'm doing this so I can win this scholarship, as for where I learned this quality from it was from my dad, just like my mom I've watched my dad work so hard for many years sometimes he may work all day and go to bed around 4 am or how he always fixing in problem in the house from the toilet to the tv to the car, every day is always a busy day for him. In that aspect, I aspire to be like my dad because hard work builds character and even though it may not be guaranteed your hard work may lead to your success.
