I will describe myself as a passionate and responsible person that places all my efforts to achieve my goals. Also, the perseverance to look at the bright side of situations and find solutions to problems. I believe a great candidate for a scholarship needs to believe in themselves to make something happen and not wait for anybody, and I certainly trust that I reflect that quality.

Throughout the years, I have continually developed a more clear vision for what I would like to become. I want to pursue a career in Civil Engineering. I believe that doctors are not the only profession that can have profound impacts on people’s lives. By designing a house or building I visualize by only looking at a paper and building something from the ground up that will impact somebody’s life. It is such a reward to see the impact engineers make, to see the happiness on people’s faces as they see their dream home in front of them, something they have worked on their entire lives. In the past, I have enjoyed drawing and designing different structures and it gets me excited to see skyscrapers built and how over time it gets envisioned and assembled. Also, I further developed my interest in engineering through the classes I selected in high school, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the classes I have taken are Honors Intro to Engineering in which is the beginning of choosing my career path. Later on, during my junior year, I decided to take Honors Civil Engineering and Architecture in which I received more in-depth instruction related to the profession of my dreams. In my senior year, I decided to experience a little more in-field experience and enroll in residential construction. In between my transition to college I have taken many of the general courses, in addition to Engineering Graphics Design. Which has given me a more relatable course to the real-world experience, as many of the materials we utilize I might confront in the future. I have realized over the past few years through the classes in which I participated that I enjoy engineering and am excited to pursue a career in this field. Another major factor in my selection of this profession and my interest is the involvement of math in which I enjoy and I am passionate about. I enjoy working with numbers because they are relatively the same concept in all languages. The mathematics behind Civil Engineering has further convinced me that this is the profession for me. I envision myself approximately twenty years from now having my Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and starting to develop my own company to help my community. Also, the profession will open new doors in my life and help me travel the world to see the amazing structures with the different techniques and the beginning of this profession.

In my early stages of life, I was raised by a single mother. My mom did not have any experience in any sports throughout her time in school and was never involved in any extracurricular activities, but she was able to give me those experiences and help me to be the young lady I am today. I have attempted and accomplished a lot of different things with the support of my family. Some of my adventures include dancing ballet, being on the volleyball team, and even going to a music school, where I learned to play the trumpet. The biggest challenge yet was moving to the United States facing the language barrier. After moving and entering high school, so many people helped me succeed and never give up on my dreams. Now as I enter into the college environment a new experience has arisen, learning from the mistakes and seeing a great difference that it is from high school. I have learned from the challenges of entering college that I need to have set priorities to succeed to not give up and to know that I am not alone in the struggle and that there are people that are willing to help me. In which I have decided to transfer to the University of Illinois at Chicago to complete a Bachelor's Degree now that I have my Associate Degree in Science. All these challenges have taught me different aspects of life in which I am going to carry with me for the rest of my life and give back to those people that have supported me to achieve them. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to pursue a career in Civil Engineering without the constant worry of needing to pay for my education and a struggle to afford school. In addition, I am currently working to pay for my education, and as I transition into the city I will need to let go of my job, placing me in a hard financial position. Receiving the scholarship will allow me to focus more on my education and not worry too much about the financial aspect.
