Hello! My name is Genesis Montes, and I’m 14 years old with big dreams and a heart full of ambition. From a young age, I’ve been deeply fascinated by animals and their well-being, which has inspired me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. My ultimate goal is to attend Texas A&M University and earn a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
In preparation for this exciting journey, I’m currently working on my Certification as a Veterinary Assistant. This hands-on experience is invaluable as I intern at two veterinary clinics, where I’m gaining practical knowledge and skills that will help me in my future career. These internships are not just a chance to learn but also an opportunity to contribute to the care and treatment of animals every day.
I believe that all animals deserve to receive quality care easily, and I am committed to making this a reality. My dedication to animal care and my educational goals reflect my commitment to improving access to veterinary services and ensuring that every animal can receive the best possible care.
I’m excited for what the future holds and look forward to continuing my path towards becoming a veterinarian who can make a positive impact on the lives of animals and their owners.

John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
My name is Genesis, I am 14 years old. I have chosen to go into veterinary medicine because I want to impact the lives of animals. I am currently pursuing my Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (CVA). I currently intern at two different veterinary hospitals, and I have loved every minute of it! Being able to impact the lives of animals is such a joy. But veterinary medicine is more than just impacting the lives of the animals, it also affects the lives of the owner. The human-animal bond is unbreakable. If someone's pet is sick or hurt, it also affects the owner. As pet owners, we want what is best for our pets, so that they can live long and full lives. I intend to pursue my doctorate in veterinary medicine (DVM). I want to become a vet to help the lives of animals and their owners.

My name is Genesis Montes. I am 14 years old. I want to become a veterinarian so all animals can have a better quality of life. I've wanted to become a vet for over three years. Since my passion for helping animals has only grown!
Currently, I am pursuing my certification as a veterinary assistant. My goal is to have it by the time I turn 16. I'm currently interning at two veterinary hospitals. I want to attend Texas A&M or Texas Tech to revive my Doctoral Degree as a Veterinarian (DVM). I would also like to own a mixed practice that will tend to all species of animals.
I believe that all animals should have veterinary care available to them. I have a dog named Rodeo. I believe he should receive all the veterinary care he needs, from yearly vaccinations, preventatives, and all routine care.
I owned a young lab mix that contracted canine parvovirus. I tried for days to try to help by syringe-feeding fluids and giving supportive care. Unfortunately, Amaya did not get better. She had to be laid to rest. After that experience, I decided I didn't want anyone else to undergo that. It is Saddening to see something you love suffer like that.
If I can become a vet, I want to help all animals have the best quality of life possible. I want all animals to have the chance to live their lives to their full potential. Animals should not have to suffer from illnesses that can be prevented by proper veterinary care.
Veterinary care is not only about the animal you are treating but also about the owner. The animals that you treat are not just different animals, they are the livelihood for some. These animals can be what people depend on to be in what they need to survive.
The animals can also serve as a companion for some. Animals can make a huge impact on the lives of some people. a person can go from being sad and depressed to being happy when they the the wagging tail of a dog.
Being a vet is more than just having a degree. It's about the impact you can make on the lives of the animals you are treating, and also the lives of the owners. I want to be a vet so that animals will have a better life and so that owners can have the joy of having a healthy pet.
